Chapter 45: Germs of Elliana

Chapter 45: Germs of Elliana

"Are you sure about this?" Alcinder asked, and Elliana wore the helmet before turning to him.

"Are you chickening out again and want some motivation to -"

"For the nth time, I am not chickening out. I am a powerful vampire, but it doesn’t mean I want to be pushed down a cliff and hurt my body because a stupid human thought it was fun," Alcinder gritted his teeth, and Elliana rolled her eyes.

The race was to start in another five minutes. Elliana was ready to show them what she had got. Her eyes were focused on the path ahead, and she looked at the mountains with a glint that almost looked like she was obsessed with the idea of going to them. Since she was so confident, Daniel was also excited to compete with her and prove her wrong about choosing this model.

The only person who wasn’t ready was Alcinder, who thought this was pure madness.

He couldn’t believe he finally agreed to sit behind this human and gave in to her provocation. She was seriously not good for his mental health.

Elliana tested her grip on the handle and pressed the clutch, making a rumbling sound.

They were about to start when they heard a shrill voice.

"So here you are? Why am I not surprised? I have been looking for you everywhere, and you are having fun with your friends. Do you think I am a fool or something? What do you take me for?" Samantha’s words came, and Elliana opened the flap of her helmet before looking at Samantha with a surprised smile.

"Would you like a ride?" Her question was entirely out of the situation, and Samantha narrowed her eyes.

She looked at the girl, who was looking back at her with raised, innocent eyes. This was the third time she was heading and seeing Alcinder with her. Was there really nothing to worry about? Why was she having such a hard time believing it?

"Your future boyfriend here is sacred and is chickening out repeatedly. Would you like to sit behind me? I can use some real support from a beautiful girl rather than a stuck-up boy, who is questioning my skills since I decided to ride a bike. I bet the way he is eating my brain will make me crash into someone," Elliana said, pushing the entire blame on Alcinder.

Samantha immediately shut up and looked at her friends.

What was this girl playing at? Was this human really inviting her to ride behind her in the place of Alcinder? Was she genuine, or was she doing this just because Samantha caught them and didn’t want to bear her wrath? Samantha contemplated, looking into her eyes to see if she could get a hint of what was going on inside her head.

"How can you change parties so soon? Don’t you have any shame?" Alcinder hissed in Elliana’s ears, and Elliana smirked at him.

"You were never my party, to begin with. I am only attracted to beauties and beasts. You are none of them," Elliana said before motioning for him to get down from the bike, and Alcinder scowled while Daniel looked at the girl interestingly.

"Daniel, I will be riding with you. Now I want to see her skills even more than ever," Alcinder said before sitting behind Daniel, making him raise his brows.

"Dude, what the hell? Why are you bringing me into this? I was planning to have a girl sit behind me. Why are you ruining my imagination? I wanted someone to hold my torso lovingly when I rode the bike, and it definitely didn’t include a guy. I don’t bat for that party," Daniel groaned, and Elliana chuckled at his choice of words.

"Just shut up before I throw you down from this cliff, Daniel," Alcinder gritted his teeth, and Samantha observed their interaction.

From how they were reacting, it didn’t look like they had feelings for each other, but-

"Now, now, that’s not a very good way to speak to someone who is going to take you on a beautiful journey," Elliana made fun of them even more, and Samantha looked at the girl who had an unadulterated smile.

She didn’t look like a person attracted to either of the boys, and Samantha sighed before she decided to take the chance. What can go worse? It’s not like this petty human can actually kill her? She sat behind Elliana.

"Hold my waist tightly, princess," Elliana said, and Samantha blushed before placing her foot on both sides of the bike and holding Elliana’s waist tightly.

As she held Elliana’s waist, she scooted closer to her, and her gaze fell on her slightly exposed neck that had handprints. It was as if someone had tried to choke the girl. Samantha looked at the girl once again. Who would say she suffered from anything judging by the vibrant and positive smile Elliana had on her face?

"Is she seriously flirting with Samantha?" Daniel asked, and Alcinder looked at the human before humming.

"If it hadn’t been for you, a girl would’ve sat behind me exactly like Samantha is sitting with Elliana," Daniel said, and Alcinder rolled his eyes.

"Do you know how to ride and race properly?" Samantha asked, feeling a bit suspicious.

If Alcinder was wary of sitting behind this girl, he must’ve had a solid reason for that. What if she really doesn’t know what kind of thing she is getting herself into?

"Don’t worry, Princess. I will protect you with my life," Elliana said, and Samantha blushed harder.

What was wrong with this human? Why was she acting like this with her?

This was the first time someone was outrageously saying something like this to her. Even though it came from a girl, the way it made her heart skip a beat was a joke.

"I swear something has happened to her. She wasn’t the same before that forest incident. Did she hurt her head?" Daniel asked, and Alcinder shrugged.

"It should be fun," Elliana said as soon as the host signaled them to start the bike.

"Are you ready to compete?" Elliana looked at Daniel, and he smirked before nodding.

"Meet you at the finish line," Elliana said, and as soon as the host fired the flare gun, Elliana accelerated the bike, making Samantha clench her hands on Elliana’s torso even more.

"Don’t be afraid. Just feel the vibes and enjoy the wind caressing your soft curls," Elliana said before she overtook five bikes one after the other.

Daniel, who was riding ahead of her, smirked at the girl before shaking his head.

Did she really think she would win against him just because she knows how to ride a bike? As Daniel looked at her through the side mirror of his bike, he couldn’t help but praise her riding style.

Though she was behind him, he agreed that her grip on the bike and how she was swiftly overtaking others was strangely good. It almost felt like deja vu.

This wasn’t the first time he was doing bike racing here. The way Elliana’s grip on the bike was so calm, it looked too familiar to him.

Samantha closed her eyes since the way Elliana was swirling the bike around the steep hill was giving her too much adrenaline rush, and her heart almost felt like it would leap out of her mouth.

"What are you looking at? Do you want us to lose? Accelerate it," Alcinder shouted, and Samantha scowled as they neared Daniel’s bike.

"Elliana, sweetheart, you accelerate too," Samantha said, and Alcinder looked at them, surprised. They were so far behind. How did this human catch up to them so quickly? Was she really this good?

"I was trying to be safe for you, but now that you have called me so sweetly, I can’t help but give in to your wishes, princess. Do you want us to win this race and not just Daniel?" Elliana asked, and Samantha scoffed.

"If you can, I want to win the entire race," Samantha said, her gaze fixated on Alcinder.

"Samantha, don’t be foolish. This girl really knows no limits. Don’t air her wild adventurous fantasies," Alcinder warned Samantha, and the latter rolled her eyes.

"Don’t listen to him, princess. He is chickening out because he knows his rider won’t be able to compete with us," Elliana shouted over the strong wind, making Daniel scowl.

Samantha looked at Alcinder’s concerned face and flared her tongue at Alcinder, making the latter raise his brows.

It looks like Elliana’s germs were contagious. Samantha, who was always so sophisticated and well-behaved flared her tongue at him. It’s only a few minutes, and she is already infected by this human’s rogue and rowdy germs.

Alcinder squinted his brows and was about to call out to Samantha for her misbehavior when Daniel shouted.

"Elliana! Look ahead!" Daniel said, slowing down his bike when he saw the steep turn, and Elliana scoffed before accelerating the bike even more, shocking everyone.

"Aaaa!" Samantha squealed.

If everyone is going to slow down their bikes at turns like these, who will win the race? This race was meant for the bravest hearts who know their skills perfectly.

"Hold tight," Elliana shouted, and Samantha didn’t waste a second in doing so when Elliana turned her bike so much that it almost looked like they would touch the road and slide down the cliff.

Samantha’s eyes shut at the possibility, her heart pounding against her ribcage painfully, and Elliana gripped the handle tighter as she surpassed around ten more riders at this turn alone.

"Open your eyes if you have them closed," Elliana said, and Samantha opened them before looking at the girl, who was unfazed by the action.

Samantha looked at Elliana’s back and sighed.

It was ironic. Elliana was just a human and wasn’t afraid of her life or getting seriously wounded, and here she was, feeling scared and wary of pain even when she knew she would heal ten times faster than others and was almost immortal.

Samantha thinned her lips, her heart contorting, and she looked at the back of Elliana’s head in a new light.

Even when she was a vampire, the amount of fun she had in her life was almost nothing. All her life has been spent caring about what others would think, what her parents would say since she was next to royalty, or what Alcinder would think about her.

She tried to be the best daughter, inspiration, and girlfriend, but what did she get in the end?

Alcinder runs away from her as if she were some kind of plague that would infect him.

Did someone give her any prize for whatever she has endured and lost all her life? Samantha looked at the girl, who seemed so happy that her positivity was almost oozing from her body, and didn’t know what came over her.

She leaned and placed her head on Elliana’s back, putting her entire trust in the girl before closing her eyes as she enjoyed the wind, making her hair flail and blow in the direction of the wind.

"Thank you for taking me on this ride," Samantha said so quietly that Elliana didn’t hear it.

Elliana, whose mind drifted back to how those boys wanted to hurt her today, scrunched her brows and accelerated the bike even more, going mad at the turns and path. She swirled her bike on the steep path as if she wasn’t racing but moving some imaginary character whose life didn’t mean anything like her life wasn’t at stake.

Daniel accelerated his bike to reach Elliana, but she was too far from him, even at the speed of 150 now.

Was her bike really that good? Daniel thought, and his pupils dilated when he saw her jerking her bike, making it jump over a cliff.

She was too good for someone to be called a beginner. This kind of grip on a bike, how much to bend it, or how much to jerk it in the air, only comes with experience. There is no way he would believe she is a newbie.

However, as far as he remembered, she had said she was terribly bullied.

Does that mean she was actually rowdy and hides under the pretense? Daniel scrunched his brows, sighing when he saw her sliding her bike and stopping with a screech at the final destination.
