Chapter 43: Aditya’s suspicion

Chapter 43: Aditya’s suspicion

Aditya believed Madeline, but it didn’t mean he was a fool. As respectful as she is, anyone could see Madeline was lying to avoid the question.

The way she was staring back at him to cover her tracks of lying and her fingers drumming on her thighs, everything was a clear signal. She has been acting weird since he found her near that forest.

This is not the first time she has been acting suspicious either. Ever since Elliana returned, her behavior has been strangely questionable.

As far as he knows, Elliana was the one who used to plot against Madeline, and Madeline had to be alert to her surroundings all the time to save herself. That was exactly how she used to counter Elliana’s plotting, no?

In the past, since he used to spend most of his time learning from his elders and preparing himself for the top University, he never thought about it and always believed Madeline because he saw a few patterns like Madeline had told him.

However, it doesn’t look like it was the same situation as Madeline had portrayed to him anymore.

That day when Elliana was bullying Madeline with that vampire, and he had caught her red-handed, something felt different about Elliana.

Was it the way Elliana scoffed when she looked at him as soon as he sided with Madeline, or was it the way her eyes that once held only care had nothing more than disgust that did it for him?

It was as if she was telling him through her eyes that he needed to open his eyes and see what was going on around him.

After Elliana left and Madeline returned to her friends, he took the pain of going to that vampire girl who had defended Elliana and tried to bully Madeline.

It was a crazy move from his side. He didn’t do things like that, but that day, he did.

When he reached the terrace where he knew she would be, he asked Arohi what had actually happened, and though vampires are always disrespectful and rude, the way Arohi chuckled dryly at him, as if mocking him, hurt his ego more than it should have.

Arohi said that if she would have been in his place, she would have killed herself because of how blind he was. Then again, he deserved a girl like Madeline only.

He didn’t know if that was a compliment, if she was mocking him, or if she was just playing with him since vampires are best known for that.

He couldn’t get that incident out of his mind, and then the second time outside of the canteen, the way Madeline was guarded against Elliana was quite suspicious.

It was as if she was afraid that he would go to Elliana. Didn’t she trust him? How could she even think of it? The way her eyes were glaring at Elliana was not the glare a victim would give to her bully.

Who is he kidding? In a way, he probably always knew Madeline wasn’t a victim.

However, before a couple of days, the thought of possibility never bothered him. He didn’t care if Elliana was a bully or a victim.

He wanted her for himself as a friend and probably more, but couldn’t have her as a lover because of her illegitimate birth secrets.

Why the hell was he feeling these emotions towards Elliana now? She was still an illegitimate daughter of the hunter’s bloodline.

Was it because she was like a forbidden apple to him, and couldn’t have her anymore? Or was it because he was actually hoping that Elliana would leave that ugly prince for him? That she would have an extramarital affair with him even though he knows she isn’t that kind of woman?

Nothing made sense around him anymore. His thoughts were never so tangled. He was always proud of his straight mindset, but from the moment he saw Elliana dressed so sophistically and like true royalty on that day, he couldn’t help himself anymore.

After a few seconds, when Aditya couldn’t control his curiosity, he looked at the door with a peculiar gaze before he lifted the phone and looked at the message from an unknown number.

"We couldn’t do your work. Next time you want us to do something like this, do your own research or f*cking tells us how powerful the opposite party is. Do you think we would risk our f*cking lives for that petty money and position? Don’t dare to include us in anything that involves that girl!" The message said, and Aditya’s brows scrunched.

What kind of message was this? It was filled with so much anguish and hatred. The way this person talked, it was clear Madeline had asked him and his group to do something, and he was dissatisfied with it.

Just what kind of thing Madeline was involved in? He quickly placed the phone back on the counter when he heard the door unlocking, pretending he didn’t see anything.

The message said something about attacking that girl. Who could that girl be? Elliana?

His pupils dilated at the possibility.

No. It wouldn’t be Elliana. Even though Madeline acts out of anguish sometimes, there is no way she would be foolish enough to pull something like this when she knows Elliana is now the princess of the vampire kingdom.

This marriage was the base of the peace between the two communities. Madeline would never pull something like this and risk everything.

"Hey? Where are you lost? How do I look?" Madeline asked, and Aditya looked at her before nodding.

"It looks -" He didn’t complete his sentence because the next moment his gaze fell on the mirror beside Madeline, and his breath hitched slightly.

Elliana stood near the mannequin dressed in knee-length shorts and a top over a jacket.

"Are you sure these clothes are the ones you like?"

Aditya heard another voice, and his gaze immediately moved to Alcinder, who came and looked over her, grabbing a lock of her hair in his hand as if she was his girlfriend.

"Does it not look good on me?" Elliana twirled in front of the mirror, and Aditya sighed.

This girl can wear f*cking anything, and it will look like the best outfit in the world, no doubt.

"It’s not about whether it looks good or not. It’s just... Maybe I am used to seeing you in a dress?" Alcinder’s words were loud and clear.

"You have only seen me for two days only. Besides, why am I not surprised? You always find a problem with whatever I do, no? Why do you dislike me so much?" Elliana scowled, and Aditya looked at Alcinder.

Does he dislike her? And yet he is buying her a set of clothes? Why did she even come shopping in the middle of college hours in the first place?

"It looks good. Let’s buy it," Aditya smiled at Madeline before handing her a random dress from the section.

"Try this one," Aditya smiled at Madeline, who smiled back before taking the dress and rushing to the changing room.

Even though Madeline’s beauty was somewhat on par with Elliana, to Aditya, Madeline looked so mediocre in front of Elliana that he couldn’t help but wonder how great it would’ve been if Elliana was the legitimate daughter.

He sat back on the couch, gazing at the beautiful girl through the reflection.

He leaned back and looked at Alcinder, who was gazing at Elliana.

A smile made its way on Aditya’s face when he saw her posing cutely with her two wingers flashing in front of her eyes.

She grinned and twirled again and couldn’t help but sigh.

His gaze moved back to Alcinder. There is no way this was the gaze of hatred or dislike.

Alcinder almost looked like he was controlling himself from pulling her cheeks.

"Hey! You two! How can you leave me alone? I walked out of the changing room, and there was no one to tell me how I looked in this shirt and coat," Daniel’s voice came next, and he looked at the girl with wide eyes.

"Woah," he grabbed Elliana’s shoulders and forced her to look at him.

"Aren’t you looking two years younger in this attire?" Daniel mused.

Aditya noticed how these vampires were treating her like she was their good friend and wondered if they knew she was the bride of the rumored masked prince.

"You look good," Elliana nodded at Daniel’s dark blue shirt and walked to the men’s section.

She bit her lower lip, remembering how handsome Mr. Marino looked in his three-piece suit with an overcoat. Even though he wears his mask all the time, Elliana always finds him breathtaking.

The authority Mr. Marino exerts and the confidence he oozes as she has never seen before, she wishes that one day, she would be able to carry that out and stand by his side proudly.

She wanted to be a good wife for him.

Her gaze lingered on the mannequin, and she touched the fabric of the black shirt.

Her cheeks tinted red at the thought of seeing Mr. Marino’s ripped muscles in this back shirt, and she looked down shyly.

Aditya walked to see where she went, and when he saw her near the men’s section, looking at a black shirt, his heart was filled with jealousy.

There was no doubt about whom she was looking at this shirt.

He turned around and went back to the couch at the same time Madeline walked out.

"You look fabulous. Let’s get these and leave. I suddenly remembered something urgent," Aditya said, and though Madeline wanted to be with him for a long time, she didn’t complain.

They walked to the payment section to pay for the dresses, and Aditya looked at the gossiping salesgirls.

"I know, right? That girl literally came drenched in mud. Who would’ve thought she was this beautiful? I don’t see why those handsome men shouldn’t be revolving around her,"

"Yeah, but what could’ve happened for her to be this dirty? Did you notice that mark on her neck? I feel like she was bullied," the girls said and immediately shut up when they saw Aditya looking at them. He sighed and shook his head at them.

Aditya paid for the dresses and walked out of the showroom, his gaze subconsciously moving to the men’s section where Elliana was smiling at something Daniel was saying.
