Chapter 421: Suspicious gazes

"Please don’t tell me you called me here to taste and test it," Vincenzo looked at her bewildered, and Elliana rolled her eyes.

"I wasn’t planning on that. But now that you have accused me of showing my witch nature, I guess I have no choice left. You said you would do anything for me. It’s just a test. Besides, it’s not even completely ready. Don’t shy away, come here," Elliana smiled cunningly.

She took a small portion of it in a test tube after wearing her gloves and taking it closer to Vincenzo, who stepped back even more.

It was funny how he was acting so humanely and stepping away slowly when he could clearly use his vampire speed.

Elliana turned back to the counter.

"Okay fine, I am just kidding. It’s indeed a vampire-killing poison, but it won’t kill you guys. It’s for the rogue vampires,"

She wrapped the aluminum foil around the beaker and five test tubes before putting them on a stand, and then placing the stand on the tray that she stored in the refrigerator section that was booked only for her and was separate from other refrigerators which Glow and Sasha helped her with.

"Rogue vampires?" Vincenzo looked at the girl who discarded her gloves and was washing her hands.

"Hmmm. I am sure you know that Mr. Marino was attacked a few days ago by rogue vampires, and they were quite on the losing terms since those rogue vampires feed on other vampires. If the number is great, they can’t be handled or killed easily," Elliana said.

"I also remember hearing that a human with impeccable skills had arrived there riding a wolf and they had turned the battle within two minutes," Vincenzo added, and Elliana chuckled awkwardly.

"There’s a whole new world that you have no idea about, Vincenzo," she grinned, and he rolled his eyes.

"So what do you need me to do? Let’s wrap it up here, I have a meeting to attend," Vincenzo said.

"I want you to bring me a test case, a rogue vampire," Elliana said as if she was asking him to bring her a cute puppy.

"Do you even know what you are demanding? It’s like asking to bring a virus in the habitat that is full of low immunity patients," He said.

Elliana knew this was the kind of question she would face the first thing, that’s why she had everything prepared beforehand.

She took out her phone and showed him the pictures of the cell that was specially imported from the other country at special demand of Marcello.

"We will keep him here. The place would be guarded by two rogue wolves, so I can assure you, that if the cell won’t be able to keep the rogue vampire, the wolves will shred them to pieces. It is out of the habitation in the vampire’s abandoned places behind the university," Elliana grinned as if she had cracked some big bug, and Vincenzo massaged his forehead.

She was really prepared for this, a bit too prepared than he would’ve preferred. Now he had no way to deny her of what she was demanding in the name of safety.

"When?" He asked.

"Today," she said.

Vincenzo looked at her helplessly.

"You are surely quite demanding with the time limit. Let me see what I can do, but in return for my help, you have to promise me to stay in contact even after you leave, okay? Though for some reason, I don’t think Sebastian will let you leave, but in the worst-case scenario, will you?" He asked and Elliana nodded.

"Great. I will let you know when I will bring him, the rogue vampire I mean," Vincenzo said before he looked at her for a few seconds, the seriousness in her expression unnerving him.

This girl in front of him, he didn’t know how to describe her anymore. She hasn’t ceased to amaze him from the moment he met her. And even after two years, he feels that he knows nothing about her at all.

"Take care and... I don’t know what to say, just stay," Vincenzo said before leaving.

Elliana’s eyes brimmed with tears, and she took a deep shaky breath, releasing the emotions that she was trying so hard to hide in front of him.

It was hard for her. To talk about leaving one man that she loved with everything she had, but no matter how much she tried denying it in her head, wasn’t it her ultimate truth in the end?

Elliana closed the vault in her phone and opened her gallery to look at the man who had taken her breath and everything away from her in a way that she felt so empty when she was not with him.

How was she supposed to live without him? Elliana wiped the tears leaning on the counter to control her emotions.

It wasn’t the time to waste her time on her emotions that wouldn’t go anywhere no matter how much she thought about them, that’s why it was important for her to concentrate on the parting gift she wanted to leave for him.

She will have to give him the information on Gambit and his rogue camps before the ceremony, or it will be almost useless after the ceremony.

Elliana dialed Marcello’s number.

"What is it?" Marcello said, and judging from his voice, it was clear he was in a hurry.

"Are you busy?"

"Yeah, I was leaving for the meeting with the eighth person who had demanded the scent-hiding perfume. We are trying to gain the information from them too," Marcello said.

"Okay. I called to ask you about the progress itself. Glow’s last number has been unreachable, and she hasn’t called me from a new number yet. So I was quite worried about her. There was something I needed to tell her," Elliana said.

"Okay, I will tell her to call you. I am running quite late. Will talk to you later," Marcello ended the call, and Elliana looked at the phone before sighing.

Everyone was busy around her, and while she wanted someone to talk to, she knew whatever was happening was more important than sharing some petty feelings that she would have to deal with herself.

She made sure no material or paper in her experiment was out before she exited the laboratory.

Things were already tough on her side and now she needed to prepare for the exams too. Elliana took a deep breath and turned around the corner, bumping into someone, and was about to fall when the person held her hand.

"You have a knack for falling into people’s arms, don’t you, Princess Elliana?" The man in front of her said, and she lifted her gaze to meet the same man who had been acting quite mysterious and weird around her these days.

She didn’t know what he wanted from her, but her powers always sensed danger whenever he was around, and that was enough of a reason for her to avoid him.

"I can say the same for you, Mr. Whoever. Don’t you think you have a knack for bumping into people? I am a human, and my senses aren’t as developed, but what about you? Shouldn’t you be able to sense when someone is coming towards you? Or do you like taking advantage of the situation?" Elliana asked, and she noticed how the man’s eyes turned dark.

"For someone who knows she is a human, your mouth runs quite sharp. If I were you, I would tame it before someone takes offense and cuts that tongue of yours," The man smiled, his smile appearing maniacal.

Elliana kept looking into his eyes, his eyes that showed pure malice. She was already feeling down because of what was happening around her, she didn’t need one more man telling her to stay within limits.

"And if I were you, I wouldn’t mess with a girl who has the protection of all the powerful vampires around you," Elliana said, and the man scoffed.

"I don’t see any protection here," the man said, stepping closer to her.

"Well, now you do," they heard a voice, and Elliana turned to look at Alcinder and Daniel who were walking towards them.

"Is everything alright here?" Daniel asked Elliana, who looked at the man who was already gazing at her.

"Everything is good. We were just joking. Right, Princess Elliana?" The man deliberately emphasized her title, and Elliana, who didn’t know how much he knew about her, smiled bitterly.

"Of course," Elliana said.

The man nodded at them and left, making Alcinder look at Elliana. It was obvious that she lied just now and saved that man some trouble, but the main question was, why would she do that?

"What are you doing here? We decided to hold the studying session in the library. Don’t tell me you are wasting your time in the laboratory again," Daniel scowled at her, and Elliana chuckled, obviously caught.

"Well, it was lunchtime," she said as if presenting a great defense, and Alcinder walked behind her before he held the collar of her dress and picked her up, making her widen her eyes.

"Alcinder! What the hell!" She shrieked, her legs flailing in the air, a sense of deja vu hitting her.

Hadn’t he held her like this when he stopped her from running behind those men who had tried to hurt her around two months ago?

"We can’t trust you anymore. That’s why we are going to pick you up and throw you in the library ourselves," Alcinder smirked at her, making her scowl.

"You -"

"Alcinder? What the hell? Is this how you treat a girl?" Samantha immediately rushed to Elliana’s defense, and Alcinder scowled, obviously peachy that his fun was interrupted.

"You, jerk!" Elliana hit Alcinder’s foot with her heels, making him wince.

"Yo! What the fuck!" Alcinder groaned, and Samantha looked at the duo helplessly.

Seriously, how could she think they would ever like each other? Look at them fighting like kids.
