The Masked Vampire King's Accidental Bride -
Chapter 393: Was it really fair?
Chapter 393: Was it really fair?
Sebastian sat across his brothers, his expression not giving what he was feeling because of his unyielding eyes and mask.
"So, what exactly do you not like about this arrangement, Sebastian? This isn’t an unfair deal. None of us knew about it. It’s a decision from Grandpa’s side," Prince Santo tried to reason before sighing.
Sebastian didn’t answer him. He just kept looking at his watch as they waited for Brother Stephano and Grandpa to come out of that meeting room.
It was a shock for everyone, and judging from how Brother Stephano reacted, saying it was unfair to Sebastian, it looked like he indeed didn’t know anything about it.
Then again, it all could be a big pretense to hide their internal setting too.
No one knew what the truth behind this sudden decision was, but after all these years of betrayal and neglect of his existence, Sebastian knew not to trust anyone, not even his grandpa who claims to be impartial when he is the most partial one of all.
This crowning ceremony, the voting, everything was a facade to show the world that he gave them an equal chance when Sebastian very well knew he greatly favored his eldest grandson, and why not? Grandpa hadn’t left any chance or given him a doubt that he didn’t favor Prince Stephano.
Starting from all the internal meetings that Sebastian was never allowed to attend, to the latest information about anything happening in the nation, Prince Stephano was a major part of everything.
And while everyone would think that it’s because he is the eldest of all and just helps his grandpa, Sebastian knew the truth behind it.
If it was just about helping, their three fathers were more than enough, and if it was all about help from the younger generation, the other prince should’ve been equally involved too.
Kach!
The sound of the door opening echoed in the hall which was as silent as a death ceremony.
Sebastian looked at his brother, his neutral expression, making him scoff internally.
What a good piece of act. Why don’t they just go and get admitted into a drama company at this point?
"I was waiting for the king to arrive. Now that he is here, I would like to take my leave," Sebastian said to no one in particular and was about to leave when Prince Stephano’s words stopped him.
"We have come to a conclusion," Stephano said.
"And I am sure it won’t be in my favor, and you are going to pretend like it’s not in your favor either. So let’s keep the formalities away," Sebastian said without turning around, and Abramo sighed.
He has wronged this child so many times that the poor man now finds it hard to believe his own family.
It was all his fault. He as an elder should be blamed for it. The other kids were young and didn’t know, but he was the one who was always wary of Sebastian the most. He was so cautious that he sent him away from his family.
If there was anyone responsible for his behavior, it was him.
Stephano was right when he said that they were the ones who abandoned Sebastian and that the human girl who was supposed to hate the monster he was, for killing her bloodline and hurting them, was teaching him what love truly was.
"At least, hear him out, Sebastian," Prince Vincenzo entered the hall, and Sebastian looked at the man, his wife’s words coming back to his mind like a flashback.
He probably took his intentions all along wrong. Vincenzo never made a move on his wife, even when she was not his and he didn’t know about her, and even after that, all he wanted was her safety.
He was worried for her because he knew that she had suffered hell in that human kingdom, and his brother just wanted him to be cautious around the girl to not break her heart or step away from his responsibilities.
Sebastian took a deep breath and turned around to look at his grandpa, surprising everyone.
Their youngest brother wasn’t the type to change his mind once he had decided something.
"What is it?" Sebastian asked, not meeting his grandpa’s eyes, who sighed.
Ambramo walked to the couches where everyone was sitting and sat in the middle of the couch with everyone facing him.
"I know that you don’t believe me and must be thinking that this is some kind of conspiracy against you. But it’s not. The reason why I decided to hold the ceremony earlier is because -" Abramo took a deep breath.
"-because your grandma is sick. I took her to the doctor, and he said it was better for her to stay stress-free or she won’t be able to make it through the year," Abeamo looked at his feet.
He was a king. He wasn’t supposed to show such weak emotions to anyone. Seeing his grandfather hurting, Stephano immediately walked to him and sat beside his knees to hold his grandpa’s hand, making him nod at him in gratefulness.
"The lady probably is stressed about this ceremony. I don’t want to be unfair to either of you and give the throne to someone on my whims. That’s why I want this to happen as quickly as it can.
After that, I will take your grandma on a tour and try to keep her happy. We have spent so many centuries together that the thought of being away from her due to any reason kills me from inside," Abramo said.
"I have come up with a proposal. Apart from the voting, the person who will find out about all the hidden spots of those rogue humans and the vampires who are conspiring against the royals will have the upper hand in my view," Abramo said, looking at his youngest grandson hopefully.
Sebastian raised his gaze at his grandfather, unsure of what he was planning.
They clearly know that his spy team was already looking into the information and was halfway done with all the interrogation from most of the spies.
Sebastian’s gaze darkened when he realized what he was trying to do. He stood from his place, making everyone look at him.
"I reject it," Sebastian said before turning around to leave.
"But... Can we know the reason?" Abramo asked, and Sebastian scoffed.
He turned around, animosity clear in his eyes.
"You want to know the reason? The reason is that you all clearly know what my spy team is doing, and yet you give this opportunity to me on a silver platter?
What are you trying to do? To tell everyone how you favored me in this ceremony? I have done everything on my own my entire life. All the hurdles were mine, all the pains and endless nightmares were mine. You never favored me when I was begging you to help me save my mother. You didn’t trust me, and the results -"
Sebastian took a deep shaky breath to keep his beast from unleashing.
"The results are well known to the entire vampire species. So if you think you can make up for what happened to my mother, how you didn’t believe me, what happened to me, and what you did to me, with this one minuscule thing, you are terribly wrong, King Marino," Sebastian started walking, leaving his sad grandfather.
"Also," Sebastian stopped.
"You have my condolences for what is happening to my grandmother. Then again, what can I expect from a man like you who never cared about relations? Maybe, it’s not in the character," Sebastian scoffed.
"Sebastian!" Stephano raised his voice, not liking the tone he was using at his brother, and Sebastian smiled before turning.
"You don’t need to shout at me, brother Stephano," Sebastian said, his hands clenched behind his back that only Lucas and Ambrose could see, feeling bad for their prince.
Today he was involuntarily reminded of his dark past again, and the worst part was, that the royal family was still unable to understand what their prince really wanted.
Sebastian looked down for a few seconds to control his emotions before lifting his gaze.
"You can see where I am standing, Brother Stephano?" Sebastian asked, flickering his gaze to his grandfather.
"This is the difference between you and me. You are sitting with our grandfather, holding his hands. And I am standing in front of him like I am his enemy or captive," Sebastian smiled sadly behind his mask.
"That’s the difference between you and me. The privilege to hold my grandfather’s hands and comfort him, I never had. All of you were loved by our grandfather, but I?" Sebastian scoffed, his eyes brimming with tears.
He really missed his wife at the moment. If she had been here, she would’ve hugged him or at least held his hands and told him that she cared about him even if the world was against him. That was how she made her place in his heart.
"When you guys showed your little fangs, it was celebrated, while I was asked to be locked into the dungeons when I showed my fangs. When you had your drink of blood, you guys were praised and taught how to hunt, when I had my first drop of blood, I was beaten black and blue and taught never to speak about it to anyone. So you see? You guys have each other and the entire family. I? I have my subordinates," Sebastian took a deep breath.
"So look into your hearts and tell me if you guys can ever repent for what I went through, and if will you ever be able to create that fair chance scenario for me," Sebastian said before walking out of the palace with a cold and unapproachable look, making everyone look down in shame and guilt.
