Chapter 337: It’s the disloyalty that hurts

"You ask me why I don’t trust you. You got your reason why I don’t trust people around me," Elliana smiled at him, her smile piercing his heart as he understood the severity of his mistake.

"Hey, I didn’t mean to... it’s just I was suspicious how you knew about all the royal things that were happening and why did you react that way when you saw a royal spy? I thought you were conspiring against the vampires," Marcello started, but rather than saying anything or taking out her anger on him like she would’ve usually done, Elliana smiled at him.

He was about to step ahead and hold Elliana’s hand to pacify her, but Vincenzo immediately stopped his hand.

"Where are you touching?" Vincenzo asked with a cold look, making the Duke immediately step back.

Elliana looked at Marcello with an expressionless face. She shouldn’t have been so affected when he had asked his men to push her back to make her fall so the vampire spy could see her, but the thought of Mr. Marino catching her in place of Prince Vincenzo shocked and shook her terribly.

"It’s good you are loyal to royals, but it has nothing to do with me. So from today onwards, I have nothing to do with you. I will annul the contract from my side," Elliana turned around and nodded at Vincenzo.

"You have got the man you were looking for. Let’s talk about things over tea. You have got my number, no?" Elliana whispered.

Vincenzo hummed before looking at Marcello, who was looking at Elliana, still in shock about what she said.

"Hey, you can’t do this. Annul the contract? Do you know what loss you will have to bear if you -"

"The amount will be transferred to your account by tonight. You can leave the place I had arranged for you, and starting today, I don’t know you. If you dare to disclose anything about me, I will see to it you lose everything you have earned so far," Elliana threatened him openly, taking Vincenzo and Dexter by surprise.

"What do you mean -"

"Glow is my girl, Marcello. What do you think I will do now?" Elliana asked and left with Dexter, making Marcello widen his eyes.

He wanted to rush behind Elliana, but Vincenzo’s men kept him in place.

Meanwhile, Sebastian sat inside his car, looking at the scene unfolding in front of him with a casual smirk on his face.

"Are you sure about it?" He asked Harry, who nodded in reply.

"Yes, sir. Prince Vincenzo found Marcello before us. But the strange thing is, rather than getting him, he rushed behind a girl. He even called her princess. I think there is someone Prince Vincenzo is interested in. Maybe we can find that girl and use her in our favor?" Harry said.

Sebastian looked at his man with quirked brows.

"Use the girl to our benefit? What kind of movies are you watching these days Harry? If our brother is interested in some girl, we should act like a good family and deliver that girl to him on a silver platter, I mean, dressed beautifully," Sebastian said, and Harry nodded in return.

"So where is the girl now? All I am seeing in front of me is Marcello and Vincenzo," Sebastian said.

"I think she left, sir," Harry said, unsure, and Sebastian hummed.

"It’s not important. Since our brother has gotten to Marcello, let them talk. Meanwhile, you follow Marcello once he leaves from my brother’s clutches, and make sure you don’t lose sight of him like earlier," Sebastian ordered, and Harry nodded before getting down from the car.

Harry sighed and looked at Prince Vincenzo with a bitter smile.

He didn’t know why, but for a moment he felt like it was their princess Elliana that Prince Vincenzo was following, but even the thought of it was sounding so weird and funny.

She was merely a human princess, who was devoted to their prince. There is no way she would be in a dangerous place like this. Moreover, he didn’t want to comment on something he wasn’t sure about. That wasn’t how good spies worked.

Dexter looked at the back of the girl, who was walking with her hunched back.

It looked like what Marcello did really impacted her. And all the smiles she was passing earlier were just a facade. But why? Why was she so hurt?

"Elliana, Elliana stop!" Dexter grabbed Elliana’s hand when she didn’t listen before he turned her forcefully and looked into her eyes.

"You can’t be serious. How can you abandon him just because he is loyal to his king and his species? This is so twisted," Dexter said as they were walking to the laboratory, which was now her personal space since she was using the space most of the time for her experiments with the dean’s permission.

Elliana smiled before scoffing and shaking her head.

"It’s not about him being loyal to his king, Dexter. We have been working together for two years, and he still couldn’t trust me enough to not get me into trouble. It’s about his betrayal. He could’ve just told me the truth and he knows I would’ve revealed it to him myself," Elliana entered the laboratory, her gaze meeting with Glow who was looking at her earnestly.

"Elliana," Sasha said, catching the girl’s attention.

"If it’s about Marcello, I don’t want to hear anything. Let him grovel," Elliana plopped on the round chair as she circled it before stopping it.

"Glow, if you have to choose between Marcello and me, who will you choose?" Elliana asked, looking straight into the vampire’s eyes. Glow pointed at her without a second thought, making her grit her teeth.

She knew she should be happy with such loyalty, but she was not. She wanted to knock some sense into this girl for sure.

"Do you love me? Shouldn’t you choose the person you love?" Elliana asked.

"My life is yours. I am yours," Glow signed without hesitation, and Elliana groaned.

"This is not how it works. I don’t want you to devote your life to me damn it," Elliana said before she sighed.

Earlier, she used to be proud of it, but these days it only feels like she has made her girls a bit too obsessed with herself.

"Let him grovel for some time. It’s not like I can really break my connections with him. That prick knows too much about me, and sooner we will come face to face too. Uhh...." Elliana circled in her seat.

Things weren’t working her way anymore.

Today Vincenzo caught her in the black market. Tomorrow he can get information about her dealings too.

She will have to get at least one prince on her side.

The prince she can trust and tell all about her dealings before she leaves the royal Kingdom for good. Having a powerful person behind her would make things easier for her.

Not to mention, to create a successful vampire-killing poison for the vampires who feed on vampires, she will have to get her hands on one test case too.

And only a prince has access to such vampires.

Vincenzo was a good candidate for the job, but he loved his family a bit too much. What were the chances he wouldn’t snitch on her the moment he thought something was off about her, that she wasn’t even a human?

But having that risk was better than having to risk not being able to do what she wanted, right?

She wanted to choose her husband, but she had a reputation in his eyes, and she didn’t know if ruining it was really good for her sake. It was a matter of a month only before she would leave the place for good.

"Glow, you once said that someone in your family used to work in the royal palace and you pretty much have a good idea about all of them. Tell me, do you think trusting Prince Vincenzo with my dealings would be a good idea?" Elliana asked, and Glow signed.

"If you can get his trust, there won’t be a better candidate than him apart from Marcus and Sebastian," Glow signed, and Elliana hummed.

It looks like her due tea would have to come in handy soon.

After clicking Marcello’s number and asking Glow to not pick up either, Elliana finally reached the palace with her mind being a mess of emotions, her gaze immediately meeting with Sebastian who was descending the stairs.

The emotions she had felt earlier came crashing, and Sebastian quirked his brows at her when she didn’t move.

"How was your day, Pri -" Sebastian stumbled back slightly when Elliana ran to him and jumped onto him, wrapping her legs and arms around him like a koala bear.

He immediately supported her to keep her there and not let her fall.

He was shocked by the sudden attack, but it didn’t mean he was unhappy.

"Leave," Sebastian said, and everyone emptied the hall, making Sebastian sigh and pull back to look into her eyes.

Her watery eyes. She was on the verge of tears, but why?

He narrowed his eyes and was about to ask her what was wrong when she whispered something he had never thought she would.

"Will you still care for me if you come to know I invented some illegal chemicals?"
