Chapter 322: The rain of sorrows
"Sir, I don’t know what you are talking about," Duke Carter said, and Sebastian looked at him with a smirk.
"You don’t? That’s disappointing. And here I thought you would be opening some great secrets about how you know everything about the vampires who are selling these weapons in our country," Sebastian leaned back in his chair.
"No, sir. I don’t have -"
"We are done here," Sebastian stood from his place, and Carter immediately broke into a cold sweat.
"It looks like Mr. Carter has nothing to say here. Maybe Marcello would be more useful when answering these questions -"
"It was the second royal family. Prince Harry was the one who had been negotiating all the deals and -"
"Are you pinning the blame on him because he is dead?" Sebastian asked, and Carter gritted his teeth.
"I wouldn’t want to play with my life, sir. Prince Harry has been the one who is leading the biggest trafficking of illegal weapons, and smuggling them to your country," Carter said.
"And for some reason, you don’t know the reason why and you never tried to ask," Sebastian commented.
He didn’t need anymore answers. If Prince Harry was really the one behind the mastermind of this, Sebastian kind of knew what was going on.
First, he established a laboratory to create those rogue vampires, then he sent them to the kingdom and had them hide in the forests. He probably sensed that only rogue vampires won’t be enough. That was why he started dealing with the rogues of other species to create drugs and weapons.
His aim was clear. This time he wasn’t targeting Sebastian only. This time he was targeting the throne, and that was probably why Carter said all those useless words earlier.
"I guess, Stephano will call you soon. I hope you know enough that all these dealings are done by him through the royal palace. My work is to gather information," Sebastian said before he nodded at Lucas.
"Let’s go," Sebastian walked around the table and was about to leave when Carter’s words stopped him.
"And what would you do if you come to know one day that someone very close to you is also involved in this?" Carter asked.
Sebastian half turned to him.
"Then I’ll first kill you for knowing the truth and not telling me, and then I’ll kill that person. And then I’ll exchange your hearts to see if you are still loyal to beat for each other," Sebastian smirked evilly before leaving the restaurant.
He took out his phone and looked at Princess’s photo that was still on the top, the last thing he was watching.
If it had been earlier times, rather than wasting so much energy talking to the Duke, he would’ve just pulled out his dagger and sliced his skin until he had started speaking everything himself.
Were his grandfather’s words right? That this girl was changing him for good? Was it really for good? Because he didn’t want anyone to think the beast inside him had died.
"Sir, would you like to visit the site today or shall we go there tomorrow? It’s four hours from here, and by the time we will reach there, it will be late evening. It will be hard to see everything in the forest at night, mostly because it is inhabited by rogue wolves," Lucas said, and Sebastian hummed.
"Let’s go there tomorrow. It would be better if we go and visit the local market today to gather more information," Sebastian said, and Lucas hummed.
As they started walking, Sebastian felt a weird feeling creep up his neck, and he turned around, only to notice an empty road.
"Is everything alright, sir?" Lucas asked.
Sebastian furrowed his brows and hummed.
Someone was watching them, and he didn’t know who it was, but whoever it was, he would’ve to be mindful of this person. They were in someone else’s territory, and though he was sure no one would be able to do anything to him, it was rather better to be safe than sorry.
He didn’t want to worry his princess over anything.
He sighed. This was the fifteenth time he had thought about her in the last hour. This wasn’t good for sure.
Was she really not thinking about him? She didn’t even message him or call to ask if he had reached safe and sound or not. It was probably because no one could hurt him, but a little worry would have been appreciated.
Sebastian immediately felt bitter at the thought of her not missing him at all.
He dialed Miss Zoya’s personal number. It wasn’t long before the caretaker picked up the call.
"Hello, sir," she said.
"How did everything in the palace?" Sebastian asked.
"Everything is fine, sir. The chef has also passed the preliminary test and will be serving in the annual ball. He will start going there tomorrow to start the preparations. The ball is in three days so everyone is fastening the process," Miss Zoya said, and Sebastian hummed vaguely.
What was with this useless dump of information? He wasn’t really interested in knowing all this.
"Anything else?" Sebastian asked, too proud to say Princess’s name when Miss Zoya had asked him to meet the Princess before leaving, but he had denied it.
"Nothing worth mentioning, sir," Miss Zoya said, and Sebastian hummed before ending the call.
Meanwhile, Elliana walked around the forests of her new magical University. It was called The International Society of White Wizards and Magus.
Nathaniel had left earlier and allowed her to explore everything herself and get used to the walls around her that would be confiscating and helping tame those powers that resided inside her.
"If you keep walking there, you will soon catch the attention of the Environment Wizards," she heard a voice behind her and she half turned her body.
Her eyes were drooped, her head turmoil again, missing Mr. Marino even more now that Nathaniel wasn’t with her.
She tilted her head and looked at the man in front of her. He looked in his early twenties, enough to be of the same age as Mr. Marino and Nathaniel.
She looked at him observantly.
"How forgetful of me. I am Ceasar. My strength is fire and the environment," he extended his hand, and Elliana looked at his hand briefly before nodding.
She was about to place her hand in his when he pulled his hand back.
"Are you new? Do you not know how to not shake any wizard’s hand here until you trust the person completely? People here train to steal Magna too," The man named Ceasar said.
"I am Elliana, my strength is my goodness," Elliana said.
Though her voice was soft, her eyes were anything but yielding, and the man narrowed his eyes in slits.
"Are you drunk on some voodoo stuff? Who introduces themselves like that? Weird one," The man scoffed, not leaving her alone anyway.
"I do. I believe you can make anyone yours if you have a good heart, and a sense of strength that comes along with it makes you feel more empowered than anyone in control," Elliana whispered.
Ceasar looked at her for a few seconds before he started chuckling.
"Oh girl, you are going to be crushed with this thought process of yours. Good? Strength? Empowered? Pfft... until you have some ancestral powers with you, these things don’t work here.
Have you been living in some fantasy world? Just because this society University is for white witches and affiliates, do you think everyone here is good?" Caesar bent and looked straight into Elliana’s eyes.
"They will walk all over you until you bleed, and when you look at them with hope, they will steal all your magna and light, right from your eyes.
So if you had it easy earlier because people favored you or because your powers gave you some good way, you are bound to make more enemies. Don’t talk about goodness here. People have suffered here things you wouldn’t be able to bear. This is a place for disabled wizards, and their anger is unmatched," the man said and turned around.
He was about to leave when he paused and half turned to her.
"You made a mistake coming here. Be ready to cry a river," The man said, and Elliana felt the goosebumps on her skin rising.
Her heart skipped a beat when the man just looked up and it started raining terribly, but what shocked her, even more, was that it was raining only on her. The other parts of the ground were completely dry.
Her body shivered as she heard him chuckle and click his fingers. She noticed the clouds above her head burning with a blue flame and she fell onto the ground because of the pressure, scared.
"Welcome on board," Ceasar bowed sarcastically and left.
"Elliana! Are you okay?!" Elliana looked up at the dean who had come to measure her strength and forced a smile on her face that faltered immediately.
She looked down at her feet. She tried to smile again but it faltered again.
Sorrows. It was the rain of sorrows.
If there was even the slightest hint of sorrow in her heart, her body would cling to it and wouldn’t let her fake any other emotion.
Elliana touched her cheeks and knew she was crying despite the rain wetting her.
The dean clicked his fingers, and the rain immediately vanished, making her immediately dry as if what happened just now was nothing more than an illusion.
"Get up. I will take you to the office," the dean said, and Elliana started following him, turning to look in the direction of the forest where it felt like someone was watching her.
If this was what it felt like being her like-alike people, was she really ready?
