"Miss Zoya, has Prince left already?" Elliana asked the caretaker, feeling a bit paranoid.

She didn’t like this feeling. It has been like this since she fell asleep in his arms. Not once has he returned to talk to her or take care of her or whatever he wanted to do.

He wasn’t there to sleep either. No word from him, nothing.

And without him, it felt empty. The room, the palace, her heart, existence, everything felt like it had no meaning.

Tears brimmed in her eyes when Miss Zoya nodded softly, and she forced herself to mask the emotions quickly.

"Is that so?" Elliana nodded meekly before she turned around and started walking towards the stairs to go back to her room, more like, started limping towards her room.

"Don’t. I want to be alone for some time," Elliana said crisply before she sighed and forced a smile on her face, just like she used to.

’Is it because I denied his request to sleep with me? Like a married couple?’ She asked, and if the powers had the function of blushing, they surely had along with smacking the little girl’s head for thinking those things and forcing them to do the same.

"Princess," Elliana heard, and her eyes immediately beamed in hope before losing the light immediately when she noticed it wasn’t Mr. Marino.

It was Nathaniel.

"That’s offending. Just because I am not the man you want to see, you don’t have to act like you can’t be bothered with me," Nathaniel mused before he walked to the bed where she was sitting.

He looked at her foot before raising his gaze to her eyes.

"I saw what happened," Nathaniel paused, hugging her from the side.

"And I also saw what you did," Nathaniel said, his words directed to Elliana’s powers, who immediately scoffed.

’Do you have any idea what you have done? Sebastian Marino was present there when you executed your curse on those people. Imagine him trying to get the truth about who hurt his wife, and then the people suddenly bursting and melting right in front of him.

’Are you fucking regarded!’ Nathaniel screamed through the mind space.

’Don’t talk to us in that tone,’ the powers roared back, and Nathaniel felt the hair on the back of his neck rising.

But he wasn’t going to give up. No matter how they reacted.

He knew if he gave up just with their small roar, they would forever think no one was going to keep them under control or hold them accountable because Elliana didn’t have any idea what they were doing and no one else could tame them either.

’You are just ruining her life and as her brother, I have every right to interfere! If you are going to hurt her and her happiness, I will not sit tight. I will fucking retaliate! She is in love with that person, and you are just giving him the benefit of doubting her existence!’ Nathaniel roared back through his mind space.

Something snapped inside the powers at the mention of their human being in love with the man, who was doubting her all because of them.

They quietened and immediately calmed down.

’We won’t apologize for protecting her. But...’ They took a long pause.

’We will be mindful next time,’ The powers promised, and Nathaniel took a deep breath. He was about to tell them he would handle the matter and take the blame upon himself when Elliana placed her hand on his cheeks, forcing his gaze on her.

"Why are you not saying anything?" Elliana asked, confused.

He had been looking into her eyes like this ever since he came, and it was irking her.

"I just don’t know what to say, sweetheart. When I felt you didn’t go to University, I knew something was wrong. I was hoping to start your registration today. It required you to answer some questions, but the Dean was so happy with your performance in the battle that he canceled that round and registered you himself," Nathaniel cooked up a half lie.

What happened was that Nathaniel asked him when they would hold that questionnaire round and the dean had glared at him in return.

He asked Nathaniel if he was just looking for more ways to get him into trouble since the girl was comfortable with Uncle Dean only before he threw the forms on the table that were already filled.

Though her powers were a bit wishful, they did a good job of scaring the shit out of the dean, and Nathaniel was satisfied with that.

"You can start this Wednesday. Would you like to have a tour of the University?" Nathaniel asked, extending his hand for her to take.

Elliana struggled. She wanted to be left alone because she wasn’t feeling well, but she also knew she needed to start learning new things, after all this was her reality in the end. The Prince would leave her one day just like that, and after that, he would never return.

Elliana placed her hand on Nathaniel’s with a forced smile.

Nathaniel could feel the turmoil in her heart immediately. He sighed and bent forward before placing a soft feather light kiss on her forehead.

"Don’t worry. He will come around. Maybe something urgent popped up," Nathaniel said, and Elliana hummed.

"I don’t want to fall in love, Nathaniel. It’s painful," Elliana whispered.

He froze in his place, unsure of what to say.

Love has indeed been painful. A bit too painful for him. And the funny thing was once you fall in love, you can change the direction of it, but not the person. Just like how he did with the love of his life. He sighed before nodding.

"No one will force you to fall in love and if you’ll fall harder than this, I will pull you back in a way you would never be able to imagine. I promise," Nathaniel cupped her cheeks, forcing her to look into his eyes, a hundred questions swirling in them that Nathaniel didn’t want to answer.

He closed his eyes for a brief second, immediately teleporting them to the University.

"Nathaniel. You always bring me here. In the future, how will I be able to come here?" Elliana asked, changing the topic, looking at him with genuine curiosity, and Nathaniel flicked her nose softly. This cunning girl. How innocently she is portraying her question.

"Don’t worry. You will be summoned whenever you are free," he said.

He forbade himself from teaching her teleporting spell and technique. There was no way he would do it so soon because he knew exactly what she would be using it for. And he didn’t want her dealings with the black market so easy. It will give her more reasons to do what she is doing.

Though witches have been known to be against vampires and dislike them, he still didn’t like Elliana creating those poisons that would bite her back sooner or later.

"Let’s go," Nathaniel said, and Elliana nodded, shifting her gaze to the large University gates where she would learn something that would change her entire life.
