"You look happy, Princess," Miss Zoya commented when she saw Elliana walking to the living hall, and Elliana smiled before nodding softly.

"I am quite excited for the day. Mr. Marino has opened this awesome laboratory in our University. Only the selected students would be allowed to conduct experiments in that lab because they can’t let people with less knowledge immediately work on the highly defined equipment," Elliana smiled, making Miss Zoya nod.

This was the first time Princess Elliana was talking about her passion for studies, and Miss Zoya couldn’t help but feel happy. It was a good thing. She didn’t want this petite human girl to take an interest in vampire politics anyway.

"I hope you get selected," Miss Zoya said when the chef placed her favourite cheese sandwiches and stuffed buns on the table.

"Thank you, Uncle," Elliana beamed at the chef, and he smiled before sitting in front of her.

"Are you feeling like eating something special today? Do you have any kind of cravings?" The chef looked at her earnestly, hoping to get some orders, and Elliana didn’t disappoint him.

"I want to eat something light, like not too much protein, but it should be a little spicy and sour. You can decide on what to make," Elliana said, and the chef nodded at her.

Elliana looked around with pressed lips. After half an hour, when Mr. Marino didn’t show up, she looked at Miss Zoya, and the caretaker understood her unasked question.

"Sir, had something urgent to attend to, and he left one hour ago to handle the problems at the coasts," Miss Zoya said, and Elliana hummed.

Her husband was quite busy. He was working quite hard to gain the trust of the people in the kingdom so that he could get to the throne seat and fulfil his father’s dream.

Elliana took a deep breath.

It couldn’t be helped anymore. It looks like she will have to create the poison as soon as possible so she can kill any vampire who stands against her husband. That was the only way she could help him now.

Elliana nodded at herself, a soft smile appearing on her face as she closed her eyes for a few seconds, imagining him smiling back at her.

His smile... Elliana’s heart skipped a beat, and she gulped.

"I think I should leave, or I will be late," Elliana said to Miss Zoya shyly, and the caretaker smiled at the obvious girl before asking one of the men to drop her off at the University.

The ride to the University was silent. Elliana was tempted to call Marcello and tell him that today was the day things would be turning for the better and would decide how soon they would get the poison in their hands, but she knew that though the driver wasn’t saying anything, he would hear every word she would speak intently and probably report it to Mr Marino.

Elliana stepped out of the car and thanked the man who came to drop her off, making the latter nod and bow in respect before he drove off, making her sigh.

She turned around, almost stumbling back when she looked at the boy in front of her.

However, he snuck his hand around her lower back to keep her from falling, looking at her amused.

"I think we are still due on a lot of explanations, Princess," Dexter said, referring to the night she called him to arrive with the bike and mask and had gone with the wolves toward the forest behind the university.

Elliana smiled awkwardly.

"Are we?" She said as they started walking towards their building.

"Of course, we are. By the way, are you coming to the biking arena anytime soon? It would be fun. There is going to be a competition next weekend. The prize is $15k this time. The bikers from all over the state and country are coming to showcase their skills," Dexter said, and Elliana looked at him with a soft smile on her face.

"You jerk, why are you tempting me?" Elliana smiled forcefully, and Dexter chuckled before shaking his head.

"Probably because I want to see you winning, or maybe because I want you to fall on your butt and never do it again? Who knows?" Dexter looked into her eyes, smiling at the conflict in her eyes.

Let her fall? He would rather fall first to save her from any injuries. He sighed, his heart aching at the thought of her getting hurt.

It was hard. From all the time he had observed her, there was a constant feeling in his heart that told him she was taken, and despite the feeling, he just couldn’t control himself from looking at her again and again.

Dexter placed his hand on Elliana’s head to annoy her, and Elliana was about to jerk his hand away. However, when she felt all his emotions and thoughts coursing in her mind because of her powers acting again and Dexter’s mind barrier being at ease, she stopped mid-step and gulped before looking at him.

"Dexter, you want to know more about me step by step, right? Well, let’s start with the first truth about me: I had been hiding everyone for a month," Elliana looked at him, and Dexter narrowed his brows.

What kind of truth was she talking about? Besides, isn’t everything she does is a mystery to everyone and -

"I haven’t told anyone about this to anyone. Please keep it a secret from me until I come clean. I like someone," Elliana’s words were like a bomb dropped on Dexter’s heart.

He had a feeling, but hearing her say it so boldly and confidently, his heart trembled, and he sighed before nodding.

"Is it the same University? He studies here?" Dexter asked, suspecting Daniel, who is pursuing her, or even Alcinder, who is mysteriously always around her and emotionally active only around her.

"No. He is... he is quite older," Elliana looked away with a blush, a part of her heart feeling relieved that she finally let it out to someone while the other part of her heart felt troubled and sad because even after everything, she just couldn’t bring herself to say she was married.

After all, she would divorce two months later, wouldn’t she? Elliana’s hand clenched on her dress.

"It’s related to your guardian," Dexter didn’t need to ask anything else, and when Elliana didn’t answer and made any move to deny his suspicion, he sighed.

Well, what could he expect?

It was bound to happen. The girl has been mistreated all her life. She was bound to fall for the first person who showed her what family care and love feel like. Dexter pressed his lips into a thin line, feeling a bitter taste in his mouth.

He had once asked her to run away with him, but at that time, she was only 16, and well, he didn’t really have the authority over his decisions, which even now were controlled by his father.

Maybe if he had the guts to free her from the miseries, she would’ve fallen for him instead. Dexter smiled at his luck and helplessness.

"I like you too," Dexter said out of the blue, and Elliana raised her brows at him.

"Don’t worry. It’s not the kind of attraction where I will write your name with my blood. I just want to be with you as your friend and support you in all your endeavours and adventures. Besides, you have some beautiful girls by your side. Maybe I can hit some luck. That girl who looked somewhat like you, can you introduce me to her?" Dexter wriggled his brows at the end.

Elliana chuckled before slapping his shoulder funnily as they entered the corridor leading to the biggest laboratory among all the colleges in the country.

Elliana took a shaky breath, deciding on all the experiments she would conduct to impress the judges.

The students came out of the room one by one, some sad and some delighted. They were sending two students at a time, and it was now Elliana’s and Dexter’s turn.

After the test was conducted, all the students gathered in the hall.

"Okay, so here are the names of the students who passed the preliminary test," The Dean started taking the names one by one, and Elliana was shocked to hear Aditya’s name on the list.

He would be there too? Elliana gritted her teeth in annoyance, feeling a headache coming.

"Elliana and Dexter," the Dean said, and she smiled at Dexter.

"Aren’t you too happy?" Dexter looked at the girl, and she nodded.

"Well, I can’t get over the smell of the chemicals," Elliana said as if it was one kind of drug, and Dexter chuckled before pulling her cheeks.

The students who weren’t selected were asked to go out, and only 20 students were left in the hall, making Elliana sigh.

"You guys did well, and I am surprised to see so many first-year students here. Anyway, as we had decided, you guys will be part of the national search program, which would be directly under the youngest Vampire prince, Mr. Sebastian Marino Canine," the Dean said. Elliana’s heart skipped a beat at her husband’s name.

"Let’s welcome the professor who will be helping you with all the experiments," The Dean said, and Elliana pulled her phone out to message Marcello.

However, as soon as she felt the familiar presence entering the hall, her hands on the phone froze.

She looked up at the person, her eyes widening at the sight.
