The Masked Vampire King's Accidental Bride -
Chapter 260: Calm me
Chapter 260: Calm me
It was chaotic. The entire night, almost everyone was interrogated repeatedly, but even after that, they couldn’t come up with a conclusion on what must’ve happened.
While the men were still going around trying to find any clues that the guards might have missed, Elliana sat with the women and sipped her tea, looking at everything unfolding in front of her.
"Elliana, you seem a bit worried. Is everything okay?" Freya placed her hand on the human’s knees, and the girl shook her head before smiling.
"I am fine, mom. I am just worried about everything that is going on here. Grandpa said this is the first time something like this happened in the palace," Elliana said. Freya understood the human girl was worried, and she sighed.
"You don’t need to be scared of anything, dear. No one will harm you," Freya smiled at her, and Elliana smiled at the irony of the sentence.
Of course, how can anyone harm her?
She shook her head before looking at other women in the tea room.
"It’s not that. I am just unsure if what everyone is predicting is even right or not. Because of the elder sister-in-law’s birthday party, the security was quite tight the entire night. Could it be that the prince has come somewhere and someone played a trick on us?" Elliana asked.
"A trick?" Aubrey asked, the girl’s words making her raise her brows, and Elliana nodded.
"No one knows if the prince is really dead. Aren’t we being a bit too inhumane to call him dead immediately? If we think about all the circumstances, it’s quite possible for someone to play a joke rather than actually kill a royal prince in such security," Elliana said, and Aubrey nodded at her suggestion.
It does make sense.
"Only a human can talk about things like humanity and stuff here," Scarlet scoffed.
"We are long used to such deaths, and though it’s mysterious that it happened in the palace and a bit disheartening, rather than looking at the positive side of the story, which I must mention, there isn’t, we should think about who the culprit might be," Scarlet said, and Elliana immediately nodded, embarrassed before she went back to sipping her tea only.
"She is just giving her opinion, sister Scarlet. You don’t need to be rude," Matilda said, and Scarlet rolled her eyes.
"Did you have your breakfast?" Sebastian walked to her after some time, and Elliana was about to tell him that she would eat with everyone when he was already pulling her out of her seat.
He didn’t stop walking until he walked all the way to the gardens, her eyes squinting in confusion.
"Mr. Marino -"
"Sssshhh, don’t make a sound," he whispered to her before he stopped beside the rose garden and hugged her from behind.
She felt him take deep breaths as he nuzzled his face in the crook of her neck, and she sighed.
"Calm me before I lose my mind and snap one of the princes’ necks from the second royal family for real," Sebastian murmured, and Elliana immediately placed her soft hands on top of his that were on her abdomen now.
She took a deep breath and leaned further into him.
"I know it’s overwhelming, but please bear with it and don’t do anything that would give them another reason to accuse you of being wrong. That’s what they want, Mr. Marino. They want you to lose your temper so that they can call you unfit for the throne," Elliana said, and Sebastian hummed.
"No matter what others say, I know you didn’t kill him. I trust you, Mr. Marino," Elliana said, bringing his hand close to her lips and kissing them, and Sebastian’s heart skipped a beat.
This was the first time someone apart from Lucas said they trusted him. Most of them only feared him, and even if they suspected him, they didn’t have the guts to say it to his face.
Sebastian smiled inside his mask subconsciously before sighing loudly.
"How do you know, Princess? Maybe I lost my temper when he came onto me and started spouting nonsense about rogue vampires and how I deserved to die. Though we all were in the meeting, we all had taken a half-hour break, which was more than enough to kill a person and make him disappear into nothingness," Sebastian said, and Elliana chuckled softly at his words before she turned around and looked into his eyes.
"My heart says my husband didn’t kill the person, and I am sure it is not wrong. Besides, when the devil hunts, he doesn’t leave his traces.
You wouldn’t be stupid enough to leave a hand just for everyone to come and accuse you when you discarded the rest of the body. You could’ve made it look like he went somewhere rather than something that happened to him," Elliana said, and Sebastian hummed.
"Pretty thoughtful of you," Sebastian said, amused, his frustration dissipating into nothingness, and he pulled her close, wrapping his hands around her waist.
He looked into her eyes, those eyes that were smiling at him, and he placed his forehead on hers before nodding at himself.
’I got this,’ he sighed inwardly before letting go of her.
"We were planning on returning in the morning, but it looks like we will have to stay here today too. Are you okay with it?" Sebastian asked, and Elliana held his hand, intertwining their fingers before nodding.
"I like you," she blinked at him, his pupils dilating at the sudden unfamiliar words that looked so familiar and real from her mouth.
"I know you do," Sebastian flicked her nose before leaving, making her sigh as she looked at the roses and took a deep breath.
How could she tell him the truth? How could she say that she knew he didn’t kill anyone because she kind of knew who killed the prince? She smiled inwardly before closing her eyes.
As she was busy inhaling the scent of the roses, she heard some shuffling behind her and she turned around in alert, not wanting to be caught off guard like yesterday night.
"It’s you," she said when she saw Vincenzo standing at some distance, and he looked around before he walked to her.
"It’s me," he said, standing beside her, and she looked at him with raised brows. She was expecting him to say anything, but when he didn’t she couldn’t control her thoughts anymore.
She turned her body to him and asked the question that had been lurking inside her mind since last night. "So, how did you do it?"
