Chapter 254: A part of the family?
"Greetings to everyone," Elliana smiled and bowed to Abramo and Aubrey as soon as she walked to the dining table, and the elderly couple who were talking to their kids and grandkids, looked up with a pleasant smile.
"How are you feeling now, sweetheart? Please forgive us. We should’ve kept your health in mind and catered to you better," Aubrey said.
Elliana smiled before shaking her head in denial.
"It’s no one’s fault. Maybe I was too excited to meet you all, and then I danced non-stop so...." she smiled helplessly and childishly, making Aubrey smile.
"Well, welcome to our family’s palace," Victoria smirked.
"The way you are saying it, sister Victoria, it’s almost as if you want to make me feel that we are not part of the family. Since I am the daughter-in-law of the royals, shouldn’t I be already a member?" Elliana asked cunningly, and the smile on Victoria’s face froze.
"Oh, Princess. Please don’t take it wrongly. Victoria is stupid and doesn’t know what to say and when to say," Santo, the seventh brother and Freya’s youngest son said, making Elliana smile.
"I don’t take any offense, elder brother-in-law. I was just confirming things, alas, I become too friendly and try to act too intimately with people who might not want to have anything to do with me.
Everyone had mixed reactions about my presence today, and I respect that it will take some time for all of us to adjust to each other, but it doesn’t make us any less of a family. A person’s shortcomings shouldn’t come between their relationship with the family," Elliana said.
The smile on Abramo’s face faltered a bit as he could see that she was indirectly hinting at how they treated Sebastian and asked him to live away.
Freya, who remembered their earlier talk, thinned her lips and looked at her plate in shame.
"But since we all are family and you indeed consider me one, I should be happy to have gotten such a loving and big family. I might take some time to remember everyone’s names so please bear with me," Elliana smiled at everyone, dismissing her earlier words immediately.
Miss Zoya who was standing at some distance and hearing all the conversation felt that their princess was really cunning and intelligent. She was insulting the royals for what they did to their prince and then acting like the best daughter-in-law at the same time.
No wonder the prince is always so suspicious of her. Her innocence sometimes looks like nothing more than a facade to hide her strength. Miss Zoya thought.
"I don’t know who is who, and I am not sure about all your titles. Please accept my greetings," Elliana said to everyone on the table and was about to bow down when she felt someone snuck their hand around her waist, before placing their hand under her chin, rendering her unable to bow.
She didn’t need to be told twice who this person was and a blush immediately crept up her cheeks as her pupils dilated at this intimate position.
"How many times do I need to tell you? You don’t bow down to anyone apart from these two old people," Sebastian said, and Elliana looked at Aubrey helplessly, making the old lady smile.
"Sebastian, we are also your elders. Stop teaching your evil and unmannered ways to your wife too. At least someone among the two needs to be polite to the family," Giotto, Abramo’s first son, and Stephano’s father said, making Sebastian raise his gaze to him.
"Sure, Father Giotto. I should know to respect the ’family’. The same family that was once a family," Sebastian said, his intense eyes saying otherwise, and his words holding a meaning that almost everyone at the table was ashamed of.
The meaning that hid the ugly truth of the people on the table who once came together to call this youngest member of the family a monster and threw him out of the royal palace because apparently, they thought their lives were in danger right after Sebastian’s mother died so brutally.
"Stop it. Let’s get started with dinner," Aubrey said, and Sebastian looked at the seating arrangement, scoffing inside his head.
"Where is my wife’s seat? I don’t see her seat beside mine," Sebastian said, and Elliana looked at the two empty seats that were so far from each other.
"It’s okay, Sebastian. You can sit freely. We won’t harm your wife," Victoria was the first one to reply with a smug smile on her face, and Elliana didn’t like how they were mocking her husband.
Sebastian’s gaze turned dark and he was about to reply to his sister when Elliana beat him to it.
"Can you afford to?" Elliana asked, her voice turning a tone darker and deeper, and her eyes blazing like a lioness, ready to hunt anyone who wanted to harm her lion and mate.
Let alone everyone, even Sebastian was shocked to see him reacting like this to just a statement.
"I mean, I know this peace treaty is important to you guys," Elliana immediately smiled innocently, and everyone dismissed her before chuckling.
"Intelligent girl," Noah smiled, and everyone agreed, everyone apart from Vincenzo, Stephano, and Sebastian.
"My question still stands," Sebastian said, and Vincenzo immediately left his seat, and sat in the empty seat in front of it.
So now the two seats were empty side by side, and Vincenzo was almost in front of them.
Honestly, Vincenzo liked this arrangement even more, and Elliana whose gaze met with him and knew what was going inside his head smiled inwardly.
This man won’t give up easily.
"Let’s go," Sebastian held her hand protectively and pulled her all the way to the seats, his actions not going unnoticed by the elders.
"So, Elliana, why don’t you tell us something about yourself?" Victoria probed more, wanting this girl to make fun of herself.
"Victoria," Giotto said, and Victoria shrugged.
"What? She said she is family. How will we become familiar if we don’t know anything about each other?" Victoria asked.
"Please ask whatever questions you have in mind," Elliana smiled.
"So, is it true that you are the illegitimate daughter and not the real one? What do you feel about your father’s stupidity and audacity to try to dupe us?" Victoria asked with a smile on her face, and Elliana’s hand on her cutlery paused.
It looks like no matter how hard she tries or who she becomes, this title won’t leave her anytime soon.
"He was foolish," Elliana said, and everyone raised their brows at her direct answer.
"Are you saying this to appease us?" Victoria smirked, feeling like she finally got something against her.
"I don’t have a reason to. It was stupid of my father to think that he could change the bride and no one would know when Mr. Marino was able to find out about it at first glance.
And if they still think that their plan is working, there isn’t a fool bigger than him.
Just because he is family doesn’t mean I will mend my opinions on the matter," Elliana said, and Victoria smiled, clenching her hand around her fork when she saw everyone nodding at the girl approvingly.
"You are studying at the International University. Biotechnology, I heard. Do you have any specific profession in mind, or are you just studying because you like it?" Matilda asked.
"And, I am Sebastian’s Youngest sister," Matilda introduced herself.
"Nice meeting you, Miss Matilda. And I am studying biotechnology because I want to become a perfumer," Elliana said in her innocent voice, looking down at her plate in surprise.
"Don’t just talk. Eat something too," Sebastian’s cold voice came, and she nodded before taking a spoonful of the pasta, her gaze meeting with Vincenzo who was looking at her while sipping his drink before her gaze met with Angelo and Santo, who was also looking at her.
She smiled uncomfortably.
"A perfumer? Is that the reason that you have used such a strong perfume that it’s hurting my nostrils?" Victoria commented again, and Aubrey scowled.
She was about to reply to Victoria to cut it when Elliana smiled.
"Mom Freya said that Mr. Marino is the strongest vampire apart from the grandfather-in-law and grandmother-in-law, which means their senses are the best. They don’t seem to have a problem with it. Is everything okay with your nose, Miss Victoria?" Elliana asked, and though her gaze looked that of someone concerned, Victoria could sense the mockery in her voice.
"You! Don’t think that just because Sebastian is here, no one can do anything to you!" Victoria raised her voice.
"But am I wrong?" Elliana asked, and Sebastian smiled inside his mask, letting his wife play and say whatever she wanted.
"How dare you!" Victoria stood from her place and was about to rush to Elliana to teach her a lesson when someone grabbed her hand and threw her away from the table, making everyone look at the person in surprise.
"Brother!" Victoria screeched.
"What kind of impression are you making? Don’t give everyone a reason to say Princess Victoria is a lunatic," Stephano said, his gaze dark, and Victoria immediately shut up.
"Well, that was surprising," Marcus mused, seeing his brother taking the side of the human princess.
"What can I say? I kind of like her," Stephano went back to his joking nature, liking how Sebastian’s fork on the food paused for a moment.
Elliana looked at the interaction between the brothers and sighed.
Do these two realize that in the entire family, these competitors have the best and closest relationship? She shook her head.
