Chapter 163: Is love supposed to be hard?

Chapter 163: Is love supposed to be hard?

After crying for a long time, Elliana’s sobs turned into hiccups as she hugged herself.

She had been abandoned again. No place is her real home, once again. She smiled sadly at herself.

’In silence, if you hold me

I will hear the Melodies.

In the darkness, if you touch me,

I’ll see the light.

Sorry I am, hurt again

Let me fall, sorry I am late again.

Can you just tell me once

You are the only thing I own?

Or will you just tell me,

Pain is the only constant thing for me,’

Elliana hummed at the same time, Nath appeared in the forest. He noticed the girl whose tears were still falling uncontrollably and thinned his lips.

It broke his heart to see her like this. It has been more than thirty minutes, and she was still at it.

The mother and daughter pair was so alike. One was holding herself here, and the other one was hugging herself in the Himalayan castle, unbothered about what they mean to this world, and how their emotions were turning things up and down.

"I’ll tell you, my sunshine. I’ll hold you in silence, and let you hear my voice. The darkness, I won’t let it come to you. I am the only thing you own, I can tell you a hundred times," Nath said as he walked to her slowly, making her pause and look up at him.

Like when a kid sees her father after getting hurt, Elliana’s lower lips quivered, and she hid her face between her legs, sobbing even louder than before.

"Why are you crying, my sunshine? Have you lost me too? How dare you say you have no one and you have lost your home? I am your home. You’ll always have a home with me," Nath said, suppressing the urge to kiss her tears away, knowing all too well how wrong she might take it.

"I... I... Am lost, Nathaniel,"

Elliana sobbed even harder, making his eyes soften before he kneeled in front of her.

He knows the feeling all too well. Seeing the girl he loves so dearly cry for another man was making him feel lost too.

He held her hands and removed them from in front of her face to look at her clearly.

"Sun-"

"Leave me alone, Nath. Don’t touch me," Elliana hissed through her pain, and Nath’s hands on her froze for a minute.

Did he go too far? Did he touch her inappropriately? He was about to pull away when she said again.

"Every time anyone comes close to me, I end up losing them. You are one of the only good friends I made, I can’t afford to lose you, Nathanial. I can’t lose you too. So just get the hell out of here and don’t come close to me," Elliana whimpered, and Nath sighed.

If only he could tell her that he has been with her ever since she was born and will always be there for her even when the heavens rain havoc. He will save her from all the fire that will try to burn her and keep her from all the evil eyes.

Like a shield, he would protect her, like a brother, he would care for her, and like her fiance and betrothed husband, he would love her.

If only he could tell her everything, but once again because of his promises and for her safety, he couldn’t utter a word about it.

"I am not leaving," Nath whispered, and Elliana looked up at him.

"I am not leaving you alone. Not now, not tomorrow, not in the future. I will never leave you. Do you want to know why? Because -" Nath gulped, closing his eyes.

I am in love with you, you stupid oblivious girl. I have been waiting for you for 18 long years.

"- Because you are my most precious friend," Nath smiled through his helplessness, and Elliana sniffed before looking at his hands that he extended for her to hug him.

"I can’t take anyone’s place, but I hope I have a special space in your heart where you know I care for you," Nathaniel smiled, and Elliana sobbed before throwing herself in his arms, letting him pat her head.

"Sshhhh, I know it’s hard. Your heart is broken. Mine too," Nathaniel smiled, a lone tear falling from his eyes, and he clenched his eyes shut to control his emotions that were trying to leak.

He can’t lose control. Not even he is with her. He doesn’t want to scare his precious love.

"If you keep crying like this and making the sky mourn with you, everyone will come looking for you. They’ll take you away from your life and from me too. Please stop crying for me," Nathaniel tried after a few minutes, and Elliana nodded, her heart still aching terribly.

Hugging Nathaniel was comforting, and her heart that was thinking she has no one to care for her was easing, but Nathaniel wasn’t Mr. Marino.

Then again, Mr. Marino would probably never try to comfort her either.

Elliana smiled sadly.

Nathaniel’s hand which was patting her head, froze in its place when he heard her thoughts. Her thoughts were crystal clear in his mind because of their proximity and power connection and he released a shaky breath.

That was true. He wasn’t Mr. Marino. He never will be him. He smiled sadly, pressing his lips into a thin line.

"I am sorry," Nathaniel whispered after some time.

"Sorry for what?" Elliana asked, confused, wiping her tears as she pulled away and looked into his eyes.

"For what I am about to do," Nathaniel whispered before he bent towards her, making her widen her eyes.

Was he- was he trying to -

She was about to dodge him when his hand snuck on her waist, and he pulled her up bridal style.

"I am sorry for not being there for you when you were sad earlier, but now that I am here, I won’t allow that. It’s my duty to keep you happy. You are my fi-" Nath paused.

"My first and only friend," Nath clicked his fingers into the darkest corner of the forest and took her to some ice field.

"Here," he took off his overcoat and helped her into it before smiling.

"My clothes look good on you," he said thoughtfully before looking at her legs.

"Let’s dance and forget about all the bad things, okay?" Nathaniel said.

And just like that she was reminded of her husband once again.

’Mr. Marino, will you teach me to dance? Hehe, I am sorry. I didn’t mean to step on you. Am I doing good? Is this step good? Why did you come to the school? For my first dance? Did I do good? Are you happy that I am learning so fast?’ Elliana closed her eyes at the memories.

Nathaniel’s hands clenched. For someone who was there with that prince for a mere month, she built quite some memories and pleasant ones.

"Come here. I’ll teach you how to dance on the ice," Nathaniel held her hand to make her forget about her Mr. Marino for some time and ease her pain, even when his own heart was bleeding now.

It was way harder and more painful than he had thought. Then again, love was never meant to be easy.

He clicked his fingers again, and Elliana looked at the small droplets of water rising in the sky in awe.

"Water droplets. They are beautiful," Elliana whispered, her eyes sparkling, and Nath hummed.

"Indeed beautiful," He whispered before pulling her close to dance.
