Chapter 107: The voice of an angel
Chapter 107: The voice of an angel
"It shouldn’t matter, I think," Samantha said, and Elliana pressed her lips into a thin line.
"Why shouldn’t it matter? It’s about three days and two nights, and you are planning it on weekdays. What if they give us demerit points? I joined the university one month late already," Elliana munched on the waffles as she sat in the living room of the palace leisurely without a care in the world.
"It’s not exactly a weekday planning if you consider Sunday too,"
"Sunday is tomorrow. I am yet to ask my guardian about the trip," Elliana said, and the chef, who brought her some pudding, paused in his steps.
Was the princess going somewhere?
Elliana hummed and ended the call quickly after some time. She looked at the pudding in front of her and smiled thankfully at the chef, who was waiting to ask her if she was going somewhere.
However, before he could ask her anything, her phone vibrated with an incoming message.
Elliana looked at her phone casually, but her hands froze immediately as soon as she read the message.
It wasn’t a normal text message. It was the magical text message that Nath has started using to call her out or contact her. Only she can see these messages and they disappear after she pressed okay on the screen.
No one can find out about these messages until they are a witch of Nath’s level.
Elliana cleared her throat after reading the contents of it.
[Meet me near the lake. It’s time to train your control.] The message was simple, yet she felt nervous for some reason.
Nath has become more proactive around her now. First, she gets the training from Yaretzi, which is observed by Nath for some reason and then he appears from time to time to make his presence known and show her a few techniques.
Elliana quickly ate her pudding and stood from her place. Her head was still a bit dizzy because of last night’s party, but the soup the chef had prepared for her, cured her to some level.
"Miss Zoya, I feel like walking right now. I will be in the forest. It should be fine, right?" Elliana asked innocently, and Miss Zoya smiled.
"Should I come with you too?" The head maid asked.
"I think I would be fine on my own. You don’t need to worry about that. Besides, it’s not like I am going anywhere, right?" Elliana held her hand to pacify her more when Miss Zoya’s thoughts entered her mind.
~~~
’Should I go with the princess without her will? It’s the right thing to ask, right? The prince said she shouldn’t be left alone,’
’But the princess wants to go there alone. If I went with her, she would think we don’t give her any privacy,’
’Right. How can I forget? Even if I didn’t go with her, she has Blue to take care of her. I should just agree to it,’
~~~~
"Okay. If that’s what you want, you can go," Miss Zoya smiled, and Elliana, who already heard her words pursed her lips before nodding.
"Okay. I am off to walk then," Elliana walked out of the palace towards the backside where the forest was.
She walked for a few seconds, keeping all her senses alert to sense any person who might be following her.
However, when she didn’t feel anyone even after a few seconds, she walked casually to the lake where Nath asked her to meet.
"Nath?" Elliana whispered, hoping he would hear her without her talking too loudly.
She was afraid that if some vampire was following her, they would hear her calling his name, and she didn’t want Nath to get into trouble because of her.
"You don’t even need to whisper my name, girl. I am always there. Wherever you are," Nath whispered into her ears, and she nearly shrieked, but Nath’s hand on her mouth stopped her from doing so.
She turned around with wide eyes and looked at Nath, who was smiling back at her.
"Startled?" Nath asked, amused.
"Someone is probably following me. What did you want to talk about? Tell me and go," Elliana said, looking around frantically, and Nath suppressed the urge to chuckle loudly.
He held her face between his hands and forced her to look into his eyes.
"Even if the whole vampire kingdom gathers here, they won’t be able to see me with you. That’s the kind of protective layer I have built around us. Whoever will come and watch us, will only see you walking around the lake, despite what you do inside this shield," Nath explained, and Elliana’s eyes widened.
"You can do that?" She was perplexed by his words.
"You have no idea what I can do for you, my love,"
"Hmm?"
"Nothing," Nath flicked her nose before looking at her hand that had a cut mark.
"I wish I could heal it for you. But then your so-called husband will suspect how come you got healed so soon," Nath thinned his lips.
"It’s okay. It doesn’t hurt anymore. Why did you call me here? What do you want to teach me?" Elliana asked the same question again, and Nath raised his gaze from her hand and looked into her eyes.
"Are you in a hurry to send me back even when I told you that no one can see me?" Nath suddenly felt jealous, and the urge to take her to his kingdom intensified.
"I am not in a hurry to send you back, Nath. You are my one friend who was with me when no one was there. You are important to me, but no matter how much you say, I will always worry about you. I don’t want anyone to come for you. Mr. Marino, well, he can be a bit dangerous and hot-tempered. If he as much as got a hint that I meet you -"
"No matter how strong he is, he can never come between you and me. There’s no comparison between us. Do you think he is stronger than me? Should we check that?" Nath asked, and Elliana looked into his eyes with scrunched brows.
She didn’t know if that was her Intuition, but for some reason, Nath sounded a bit more possessive and insecure just now.
But why would he get insecure? There was no need or reason for that. It’s not like Nath likes her like that. Nath is only teaching her these skills as a good friend and because he considers her his sister, right? Elliana wondered before smiling.
"We still haven’t come to the point. Yaretzi will come anytime, and she will urge me to get trained again. She would probably scold me for singing yesterday I was not allowed to do it in the first place," Elliana said, and Nath narrowed his eyes.
"Yes. This reminds me. I had to ask you. Why did you sing in the first place? Do you have any idea how dangerous it could’ve been? Your singing can alert other people about you, the people that shouldn’t know anything about your existence," Nath said, and Elliana’s expression immediately changed from understanding to sad.
"Why is that, Nath? Why should I be the one to stop myself from singing? You are also talking like I committed some kind of sin. Is it bad that I wanted to sing just like my step-sister and show the world that I am talented too? Why should I stay hidden and under constant observation? Do I not deserve to live happily and freely?" Elliana’s soft tearful eyes looked at him.
Elliana demanded the truth. It was clear to Nath. She demanded answers to why everyone was so stuck up on her, the answers that he couldn’t give her.
Can she not live freely? If it had been in his hands, he would’ve taken her to a place where no Siren, human, vampire, or witch would’ve reached her. The place that would’ve been solely theirs, but he knows that he can’t go against the witch’s rules.
The rules that tell them no matter what happens, they have to work in accordance for the welfare of those humans and this earth.
"You can sing whenever you want. I give you my word that I’ll take care of things. But you can at least stay mindful of your words, right? Never curse anyone in your songs. Don’t pray for anyone’s destruction," Nath cupped her cheeks before sighing.
"I know you are not the type of girl who would wish for someone’s bad, but I also know that you are losing your temper and control easily these days, Elliana. You are like an angel, and when angels cry, the gods have to come to Earth to fulfill their wishes," Nath said in a daze before he cleared his throat to make her understand in a better way.
"Your voice holds that power, the power that is enough to call a species that you wouldn’t want to meet or mess with. So never curse anyone with your voice, okay?" Nath asked, and though Elliana didn’t understand a word he was speaking, she nodded absentmindedly.
"Are you still not going to tell me why you were here?" Elliana asked, and Nath sighed before his gaze fell on the locket on her neck.
"I’ll tell you. Hear me out properly," Nath said, and Elliana looked at him with full concentration.
