Chapter 48: Warning (2)
Drogo realised Cassian wasn’t following him and turned around to look.
He stood in place smiling and looking at the lake.
"This was where I met her the second time. It was even more memorable than the last time. She saved me, you know?"
Drogo looked at him in confusion. Has he lost it? Or did he plan to get engaged to her and stay in the race for the throne? His eyes narrowed, he didn’t know what was good for him. He took time to ’kindly’ explain to this cousin of his why he should back out, but he didn’t seem to understand.
"What are you saying? Do you like Adeline?" Drogo didn’t hide his frustration, he couldn’t let them get engaged. It would be a thorn in his path.
He walked towards Cassian intending to ’hold’ his shoulder, but before his hand could land he found himself being pushed into the lake.
Drogo didn’t have time to think, he was drowning rapidly. He flailed his arms around and opened his eyes to get a sense of direction. He started moving in the direction of the light shining above. But when he thought he reached the surface, a cold hard surface blocked him. It was ice...
And beyond the ice stood Cassian on the ground looking down at him. His head was titled in amusement. "You can’t even save yourself, you are going to become the Emperor?"
Drogo finally processed what was happening. This ice... It wasn’t here before...
He started moving away hoping to find an opening so that he could surface. His hands were banging on the ice hoping it would break but to no avail. The ice covered the entire lake. Step by step Cassian walked, slowly following him. Each step of his seemed to land on Drogo’s face.
Once it got ’boring’, Cassian waved his hand and created an opening for him to come out.
"Y- You have powers?!"
Cassian didn’t bother talking to him and walked away. He found himself at the entrance of the private garden.
"What if your mother finds out?!"
He didn’t stop, he turned his face and answered, "Go tell her then."
Drogo was filled with fear and fury. He almost died in there, his fists were clenched. In his mind, he already killed Cassian a thousand times.
He couldn’t tell the Empress. It was the only leverage he had over Cassian, he boldly presented himself as a potential heir only because Cassian didn’t have magic. But now, he knew Cassian had powers, not just any powers... Ice powers. As much as he would love to see his aunt vent her anger out on him for lying and hiding, he could never let anyone know about his powers. He didn’t know what Cassian’s motive was but it benefited him
Earth, water, air and fire were the most common powers, he had the earth type. Ice and lightning were rare, he couldn’t believe Cassian had it and had the audacity to hide it. Although he was fuming with anger, he couldn’t let the secret out. If everyone knew of his ice powers, it would elevate his position.
"Be quick. It won’t last long."
After Cassian warned Drogo, he left. The ice started to crack between his legs, like a race against time he had to run to the shore. As a last-ditch effort he jumped from where he was to the ground, the ice faded within a few seconds. The hard ground barely helped break his fall. He was now covered in mud, the chill reached deep into his soul and heart. Cassian was just a child, but he managed to rattle him.
He would never forget this. His teeth gnashed, and he told himself that this happened only because he was caught off guard, there wouldn’t be a second time.
The downside of keeping a low profile is others think they can step over you. Once Cassian gave his cousin a warning. He went to his room to recuperate. He couldn’t overexert himself and get his wounds opened as a result, that would worry Adeline and he couldn’t have that.
He looked forward to meeting her again during the banquet.

Edward got rid of the servants and snuck out at night when everyone was asleep. He reached the alley he marked earlier. No one was there, the place was empty, but that was not surprising. They were cautious, unless the one who summoned them sent a signal, they would not show up.
However, they were surprised it was a child who summoned them. The magic circle used was powerful and advanced, they had expected a seasoned veteran who called upon them, but a child? No one expected this.
Once he used the signal, they started to show themselves. There were hundreds of them congregating in the alley.
"I will get to the point. I have preserved the track of a very important person, I need you to track them down."
That was a fairly easy thing to do, but why was he asking for their help?
But they weren’t about to question a mage who was ranked above them. Age does not matter, ability does. Though were caught off guard they quickly got to work.
They saw bright glowing waves that went off in a direction, the intensity of the glow was enough for them to know how well the traces were preserved and how talented this young boy was.
However as they tried to further their investigation, they were blocked off. The traces disappeared immediately.
"Not up to the challenge?" Edward provoked. That voice didn’t just block his ability to recognise the person he was after, she also covered up the traces. He was strong, but he wasn’t free enough to pursue this, he had a lot of things to do. He instead pawned off the responsibilities to those who were lower in the ranks. They were willing to do this for him hoping they could learn a thing or two from him and advance their abilities.
