Chapter 246: Annora’s Pain

Chapter 246: Annora’s Pain

She wanted to painfully torture him but they could not assert control over him. Follow the rules of the world... Keep things the way they should be... And yet they allowed Adeline to keep her lightning powers! Adeline in her past did not have any powers!

Annora gritted her teeth, her hands trembling with frustration. She wanted to break Edward, to make him suffer, to make him kneel before her in complete submission—but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t assert control over him. It wasn’t working.

Her fingers dug into her palms, nails pressing painfully into her skin. They kept telling her to follow the rules of the world, to keep things the way they should be. But what did that even mean? They had no problem letting Adeline keep her lightning powers!

Adeline.

Her stomach twisted with rage at the thought of her.

In their past life, Adeline had been nothing. A spoiled noblewoman with a cruel heart and no real power of her own. She had relied on her position, on her father’s influence, on the people around her to do her dirty work. And yet, in this life, she was stronger.

She had powers—lightning magic that should have never belonged to her. Holy Powers that were not hers! Immense holy powers!

Why?!

Annora clenched her jaw. If they truly cared about the rules, about maintaining balance, then why did they allow her to keep her powers? Why was Adeline an exception?

They were all talk.

Weak.

Useless.

They expected her to just accept this? To just sit there and watch as Adeline moved freely, untouched, unchallenged? They refused to grant Annora any additional powers, claiming it wasn’t how things were supposed to be.

She let out a bitter laugh.

So what?!

So what if, in her past life, she didn’t have extra powers? That version of her failed. That version of her lost everything.

Logic dictated that she should get stronger this time. Logic dictated that she should be able to defend herself, to fight back, to take what she wanted without anyone standing in her way.

And yet, they did nothing.

Her fists shook with fury.

If they wouldn’t help her, then she would find another way.

Annora clenched her fists, her nails digging into her palms as her body trembled with rage. The Adeline from her past life had been hateful, cruel, and arrogant, but this one—this one was far worse.

This Adeline had holy powers.

Even though Annora’s body had been reconstructed, even though she had endured unimaginable pain to obtain her own holy powers, it was all for nothing.

That woman... That woman had powers far stronger than her own.

It wasn’t fair.

Her leg stung but at this moment the pain she felt in her heart was even more devastating.

Annora gritted her teeth, her fury boiling deep within her. She should be the one with immense holy powers. She was the Saintess. She was the one blessed by the Sun Goddess. She was the one who had been chosen!

So why... why did Adeline have everything that rightfully belonged to her?

Her hands trembled as she clenched the fabric of her dress. The thought alone was unbearable. Adeline had stolen it.

In a fit of rage, Annora stormed through the halls, her mind consumed with thoughts of betrayal and injustice. Her feet carried her to a place she once sought comfort—the room that housed the statue of the Sun Goddess.

She pushed the heavy doors open, the candlelit chamber greeting her with an eerie silence.

At the centre of the room stood a tall, pristine statue of the Goddess. Her face was serene, her eyes gently closed as if in eternal peace. Behind her head, a golden sun shone brightly, its carved rays stretching outward, illuminating her divine presence.

Annora’s chest heaved as she took a shaky step forward.

How?

How could she be at peace after ruining her life?

The anger within her only grew stronger as she glared at the Goddess’s expression.

This was supposed to be her fate.

She was supposed to be the beloved Saintess. She was supposed to be adored by the people. She was supposed to have suitors fighting for her hand, noblemen and kings desperate to win her favour.

That was the fate written for her.

And yet...

Annora let out a bitter laugh. What had she done to deserve such a cruel ending?

Her legs felt weak, and before she realised it, she had fallen to her knees.

Tears trickled down her cheeks as she stared up at the Goddess, her heart pounding painfully in her chest.

She remembered crying like this before.

In her past life.

When she had lost everything. She was stripped of her holy powers, and abandoned by everyone... Had nothing to live for.

She had knelt in front of the Goddess, just like this, her hands clutching her heart, her body shaking with grief.

She had begged.

Begged for an answer.

"Why?" Her voice had cracked, barely above a whisper. "Why did all of this happen to me?"

She had loved the people. She had given them everything. She had devoted herself to the temple, believing that if she was pure and kind, if she followed the path the Goddess had set for her, she would be rewarded.

And yet, she had been abandoned.

By everyone.

Her own people had turned away from her.

Her holy powers had been ripped from her.

Cassian had left her without a second thought.

Benedict had killed Adeline, and in the end, he had taken his own life, leaving her alone.

Edward had betrayed her in the cruellest way possible, stripping her of everything she had once been.

And Dimitri? He had never been hers to begin with.

She had been discarded. Thrown away like she was nothing.

And in the darkest moment of her past life, she had come here—to this very place.

She had cried.

She had screamed.

She had pleaded with the Goddess to tell her why.

But no answer had come.

Only silence.
