Chapter 245: Plan

Adeline’s eyes remained locked on Edward as she took a deep breath, trying to steady her thoughts. "What’s your plan?" she asked.

Edward smirked, tilting his head slightly as he leaned back into his chair. "Straight to the point, I see. I expected nothing less."

Adeline didn’t have time for his games. "What can I do to take Annora down? I need to bring my friends back."

Edward’s smirk widened. "Well, you can undo the spell cast on them for starters."

Adeline narrowed her eyes. That was obvious. The problem was how.

Edward continued, his tone light, almost amused. "But I am not capable of that, and even if I were, I wouldn’t waste my time helping those men in any way or form."

Adeline felt a surge of anger. She looked at him with pure disgust.

She clenched her fists. "Of course you wouldn’t."

Edward didn’t react to her disgust. He simply shrugged, his expression unreadable. "And I doubt you have the ability to undo the spell either."

Adeline scoffed. "You underestimate me."

Edward chuckled. "Maybe. But confidence isn’t the same as power, Adeline. If you don’t have the means, your determination alone won’t break the spell."

Even she knows that blind determination won’t get anywhere. But she believes in herself and her ability to analyse and figure out how to undo this spell. There is always a way, no spell is impenetrable.

"I will figure it out," she said firmly.

Edward gave another lazy shrug. "And if you don’t?"

Adeline frowned. "Then I will follow whatever you have to suggest."

Edward’s smirk deepened. "Then let me reveal the other option. Find and kill the casters."

Adeline’s breath caught for a second.

She knew that was a possibility. If the spell was created by someone, then breaking it at the source could undo everything.

But who were the casters?

Edward’s gaze sharpened slightly, watching her reaction. "That would be the most efficient method. Destroy the people responsible, and the magic will collapse."

Adeline exhaled.

It wasn’t that simple. Even if they knew who the casters were, killing them wouldn’t be easy.

"Do you have any leads?" She asked.

Edward’s smirk returned. "Not yet. But I will."

Adeline held back a sigh. Maybe she made a mistake making a deal with this guy.

At least she had a plan now.

She stood up, already deciding her next steps.

She had two options—break the spell or eliminate the ones who cast it.

Either way, she needed more information.

Edward watched her with an amused look as she turned toward the door.

"You need to break Cassian, Dimitri, and Benedict out of the spell just as much as I do," she said before leaving. "Or I doubt they’ll let you exact your revenge on Annora while they’re still ’in love’ with her."

Edward chuckled. "You have a point."

Adeline rolled her eyes.

She didn’t ask why he wasn’t affected by the spell.

She already knew the answer deep down.

Edward was powerful.

Prepared.

He held too many secrets.

And he wasn’t going to share any of them.

Adeline walked down the hallway, her mind still focused on her conversation with Edward. The situation was worse than she had thought. Annora’s body had been reconstructed with forbidden magic, and her backer was powerful enough to give her holy powers despite it. That meant they weren’t dealing with just an ordinary spellcaster—whoever was behind Annora was capable of breaking the very rules of this world.

She clenched her fists. She needed to act fast.

She was about to turn the corner when she saw Annora standing there, waiting for her.

Annora’s smile was just a little too bright, her eyes filled with amusement. "Leaving so soon?" she asked, tilting her head. "I thought you and Edward would have more to talk about."

Adeline didn’t bother responding. She had no interest in wasting her time with Annora. The woman thrived on attention, and Adeline refused to give her the satisfaction.

Annora’s smirk widened as she took a step closer. "So, you joined hands with Edward?" She let out a light laugh, shaking her head. "Oh, Adeline, you poor thing. This is a battle you can’t win, no matter how much you try."

Adeline finally stopped. She turned around slowly, meeting Annora’s gaze with an unimpressed look. Then, she scoffed. "You should know all about losing battles," she said. "Isn’t that how you ended up with this life?"

The smug expression on Annora’s face immediately disappeared.

For a moment, there was silence between them.

Then, Annora’s lips curled into a sneer. "Then you should also know that I will go to any lengths to get what I want." Her voice was cold, her eyes dark with fury. "I came back once. I will come back again if needed."

Adeline didn’t flinch. "Oh?" She mused. "And if I destroy this body, how many years would it take for your backer to create another one?"

Annora’s eyes widened.

Adeline didn’t hesitate. The moment Annora moved, she struck.

A bolt of lightning shot through the air, hitting Annora’s leg with a sharp crack.

Annora gasped in pain, her body jerking as she stumbled, her knees hitting the floor.

Adeline stood over her, looking down with a scoff. "You might need another life to fight against me."

She turned on her heel and walked away, not bothering to glance back.

Annora’s hands clenched into fists.

Her breathing was heavy, her body shaking—not from pain, but from rage.

Then, suddenly, she laughed.

It started as a low chuckle, but it quickly grew, turning into full-blown, maniacal laughter.

Her shoulders shook, her head tilted back.

Adeline thought she could win?

Adeline thought she could stop her?

Oh, how foolish.

Annora’s laughter died down, and her eyes glowed with pure hatred.

She was going to push the events forward.

She was going to have Benedict kill her first. She hated that her ’backers’ were so useless. They could not assert control over everyone, so they chose key figures... And even in that they failed to rope in Edward.
