Chapter 218: It Ends Now

"Are you done running, Lucas?" Cassian’s voice was calm, but the rage beneath it was unmistakable. He stepped forward, the frost spreading beneath his feet with every step. "I told you—no one who harms her gets to walk away."

Lucas scoffed, though his heart was pounding in his chest. "You’re losing your edge, Your Highness," he taunted, his voice steady despite the fear coursing through him. "Risking everything for a girl? How noble of you."

Cassian’s eyes narrowed, and the temperature dropped even further. Lucas shivered as frost began to creep up the trees around them, encasing their trunks in shimmering ice. The air felt heavy, the cold seeping into his bones.

"You seem to have a death wish. What a waste of two lifetimes." Cassian’s words stung. Lucas felt uncontainable anger. He was going to kill Cassian at all costs, even if he dies trying he will not die until Cassian becomes crippled.

Lucas threw up a barrier of ice, he needed a second to catch his breath and plan on how to escape this barrage of attacks. Adeline was out of sight. His first instinct was to take her hostage but she was not in the ice-walled arena Cassian conjured up.

He raised his hand, and a blizzard erupted around him, the wind howling as shards of ice swirled through the air like a thousand tiny daggers. Lucas barely had time to react as the storm surged toward him.

The force of Cassian’s attack shattered his shield almost instantly, sending him stumbling backward. He bit back a curse as he felt the sharp sting of ice slicing through his skin.

He had to strike back. He couldn’t just keep dodging and defending—Cassian’s power was too overwhelming. Gritting his teeth, Lucas focused all his energy into his left hand, forming a small but sharp ice shard. It was nowhere near as impressive as Cassian’s creations, but it would have to do.

With a flick of his wrist, he sent the shard flying toward Cassian.

Cassian didn’t even flinch. He raised his hand, and the shard shattered harmlessly against an invisible wall of frost.

"Is that all you’ve got?" Cassian sneered, his voice dripping with disdain.

Lucas clenched his fists, his anger flaring despite his fear. "You’re reckless," he spat. "You’re going to ruin everything you’ve worked for over a girl. Do you even realise how pathetic you look right now?"

"Do you realise that you are going to die right now? You will not get a third chance at life."

Thisb*stard... Lucas could not breathe properly. Those insults... He always knew how to provoke a person. Why was he so lucky? He had women who would dedicate themselves to him. A powerful family on his mother’s side, the title of the Crown prince and incredible powers.

This was not fair.

Cassian’s expression darkened. The ground beneath Lucas’s feet cracked as frost spread outward, and he barely managed to leap away as an enormous pillar of ice shot up from the ground.

Cassian advanced relentlessly, his attacks growing more ferocious with every step. Ice spears, jagged shards, and freezing winds bombarded Lucas from all directions, leaving him with no time to catch his breath.

Lucas dodged as best he could, his movements growing slower and more desperate with each passing moment. His injured arm hung limply at his side, the frozen numbness barely keeping the pain at bay.

He knew he couldn’t keep this up much longer.

Gathering the last of his strength, Lucas launched himself forward, aiming for Cassian’s blind spot. He formed a dagger of ice in his hand and lunged, hoping to catch the Crown Prince off guard.

Cassian spun around with lightning-fast reflexes, his hand shooting out to block the attack. The ice dagger shattered against his forearm, and before Lucas could react, Cassian’s other hand shot forward, grabbing him by the throat.

"You’re out of your depth," Cassian said coldly, his grip tightening. Frost began to spread from his hand, creeping up Lucas’s neck and freezing his skin.

Lucas struggled, clawing at Cassian’s hand as he gasped for air.

His lungs burned, and black spots began to dance across his vision. His body thrashed instinctively, feet kicking wildly in the air as he struggled against the impossible strength of the Crown Prince.

It felt like the world was collapsing around him. The pain was unbearable—the suffocating grip, the numbing cold, the searing ache of his frozen arm. Every nerve in his body screamed for oxygen, but no matter how hard he fought, he couldn’t break free.

Cassian’s expression was chillingly detached, his eyes void of mercy. "This is where it ends, Lucas," he said, his voice cold and final. "You should have known better."

Lucas’s thoughts were a whirlwind of panic and regret. This wasn’t how it was supposed to go. He had fought too hard to survive in this world, made too many sacrifices, and climbed too many walls to end like this. He wouldn’t—couldn’t—let it end like this.

This rare opportunity... And it was ending like this! Why couldn’t he get powers... Why was he forced to relive this nightmare?! He was given this chance to change his ending and yet... Here he was again, at Cassian’s mercy.

His body was giving out. His kicks grew weaker, his vision darker, his strength waning. He felt himself slipping, the sharp edges of consciousness blurring into an empty abyss.

No.

The thought sliced through the haze in his mind like a blade. He wouldn’t go down like this. He wouldn’t give Cassian the satisfaction of killing him, and wouldn’t let this arrogant prince decide his fate.

Summoning every ounce of strength he had left, Lucas reached for the shard of ice in his hand. His fingers trembled as they closed around it, the jagged edges biting into his skin. He could barely feel the pain anymore, the cold had numbed him to it.

Cassian’s grip tightened as if sensing his defiance. "Don’t bother," Cassian said, his voice a low growl. "You’re finished."

But Lucas wasn’t finished. Not yet.
