Chapter 135: Got Caught!

He thought about the possibilities, the ways he could make use of her when a loud sound interrupted him. When he looked at the origin of the sound, he saw that the chair the Marquess was sitting on was shattered to dust.

The Marquess was twisting his hands and removed the black gloves she wore. "Sorry, I couldn’t control my power."

How was he, an Emperor, this helpless in front of a Marquess? The Emperor grew frustrated but there was nothing he could do.

If he dared to give an Imperial order about Adeline, his only friend would immediately turn on him. Couldn’t control his powers, my foot! He was warning me. If I lay my hands on his precious daughter... Hah!

"I will leave it up to you then. Bring down the Temple." The Emperor crossed his hands and leaned back into his chair.

The Marquess bowed and left. He trusts that his friend got the hint and will leave his daughter out of this. He didn’t want to reveal this secret to the Emperor in the first place.

But before the Temple could expose the matter and turn the Emperor against him, he decided that he would expose the truth himself.

He would have to stay another day in the Capital, and he was thinking of ways to bring down the Holy Temple plus, he intended to use his main force of power, the information guild to consolidate the members and spread rumours about the Temple.

Meanwhile, in the Western Marquess’s estate, Adeline was practically bouncing with excitement. Her father’s sudden departure had left her with an unexpected window of freedom, and she intended to make the most of it.

She glanced around her room, satisfied that her escape plan was flawless. The map was hidden, the supplies were stashed, and all she needed now was the location... Time to summon the Goddess.

"Alright. The bag is packed, and Dad is gone. My brothers are... unaware, but most importantly I have recovered! I am ready to go explore the ruins!"

There was no response...

"You stinky Goddess! I might not get the time again! Dad won’t let me go if he was here! I need to go now! Tell me where the ruins are!"

Still no response. Adeline wanted to break something. She wanted to go to a rage room and vent her anger but unfortunately, those didn’t exist in this era. Which gave her an idea, she should make a rage room for the people in the Empire.

Adeline tucked away her business idea at the back of her mind and went downstairs to grab some snacks. She didn’t tell her brothers about her plans. She should be fine, right?! That’s exactly what she thought when she went to investigate the abandoned mansion.

Adeline shrugged, "Meh, I should be fine. What’s the worst that could happen?"

"Getting caught."

"Aah!!" She flinched, then turned and threw the cupcake in her hand at the voice.

It flew straight into Alaric’s face and smacked him right on the nose. He didn’t move an inch though, he closed his eyes and simply took the hit.

Wiping his nose, he spoke with an unhinged amount of anger, "Adeline Kendrick, I know of your sneaky plans. Whatever you’re thinking of doing. Stop it!" He was furious with her! But why?! She did not deserve this huhuhu.

But that wasn’t the point! How did she get caught?! She hid the map and satchel in her drawer where her pyjamas were!

She narrowed her eyes and looked at him like he betrayed her! How dare he snoop?! And go through a girl’s drawers. She took two steps back and asked, "How did you find them?"

Alaric didn’t understand the sudden change in her behaviour, he went on with his lecture. "Did you really think with your intelligence you can hide these things from us?! Be grateful I didn’t inform Father immediately! I am telling you this kindly, you are not going anywhere."

Alaric was truly worried, she got injured in the Eastern Duchy! He didn’t want to take any more chances. He didn’t want to enable her. Getting into small troubles is fine, he could get her out of it. But if something big happens he wasn’t so sure he could!

"Did you go through my drawers?!" She yelled. Was she horrified, yes a little bit. But she was mostly trying to divert his attention so that he wouldn’t be too mad at her.

"What?-" That successfully caught his attention. Just what was she talking about? He forgot about reprimanding her at the moment as he slowly tried to understand the situation. As he realised what was going on, his frown deepened.

He couldn’t tell if he should be angry or offended. He lifted his hand to flick her in the forehead when she started running away. With the way she sprinted, it made him feel guilty like he did something wrong!

He didn’t do anything! The maids told him! They went through her drawers to keep clean clothes when they found it. They were worried about her and they informed him.

He started to run behind her to catch her, before they knew it, they were playing around and having fun. Alaric hadn’t realised how Adeline had diverted his attention.

They raced through the gardens, Adeline darting around flowerbeds and ducking under low-hanging branches in a desperate attempt to evade her brother.

Alaric had newfound determination to catch her and then ground her! No leaving the house for a month! He didn’t care if he was being harsh.

"Adeline! Stop running!" he called, his voice exasperated.

"Never!" she shouted back, her laughter betraying her enjoyment of the chase.

Finally, he caught up to her, grabbing her arm and spinning her around. Before she could react, he flicked her forehead.

"Ow!" Adeline yelped, clutching her head. "What was that for?"

"For being reckless," Alaric said, his tone softening. "You can’t keep doing this, Adeline. You have no idea how worried we get."

Adeline pouted, rubbing her forehead. She didn’t argue back. She understood their concern. But she had things to do! Even if she explained, they wouldn’t get it.

"Answer the question, brother. How did you find out?" She pouted and put her hands on her waist. She needed to know how so she could be even more careful next time.

Alaric didn’t think too much and told her how he found out.

Traitors! All of them! She couldn’t believe that her maids snitched on her! To think she trusted them huhuhu. The horror! The betrayal.

Aaron watched from the windows as his siblings had fun. Ever since he came back from his forced vacation, the Captain had been even more strict on him! He didn’t get to slack off one bit!

How unfair! Why did his older brother get to take breaks whenever he wanted? And why did his younger sister not have to go to class?! She was much more unruly than he was! She’s the one who needs extra lessons the most!

No matter how much he complained, he was stuck studying and training.

She spent time with her brother and went to bed. After a busy day, she came to a conclusion. She had to be extra sneaky to get away from the mansion! She was going to those ruins no matter what!
