Chapter 125: Bring It Down
"Don’t go back to the West yet. Go to the Holy Temple." The Goddess spoke with much enthusiasm.
Adeline paused. Her annoyance was still there, but the words made her hesitate.
Should I go there? It’s not like she is asking me to go to the Holy Temple itself...
Dimitri looked at her with curiosity. Would it be right to drag him into another mission of hers? She pursed her lips.
"Say, do you wanna go to the Holy Temple?" She smiled showing all of her teeth.
!!!
The words hung in the air like a thunderclap.
Had the lady gone crazy from the injuries she received?! Dimitri could not believe what he was hearing. His mouth was agape.
The Holy Temple? Just what was going through in her mind?! This was the place they had to stay away from. It was a corrupt organisation through and through but that side, she had holy powers!
People who have holy powers can detect her... And she was going to a place filled with those who possess it. He wanted to yell, ’Are you insane?!’ But he stopped himself.
"What are you talking about?!" He couldn’t be bothered to be respectful, at the end of the day she was still his lady. But the request was so insane that the etiquette he learnt was out the window!
His outburst was uncharacteristic of him. Normally, he spoke with respect and restraint. But the sheer absurdity of her question threw him off. Was this some kind of joke? He couldn’t believe what he was hearing.
"Don’t get mad at me! Get mad at the Goddess!" Adeline tried to defend herself. She pointed a finger toward the sky as if that would help shift the blame. To others, she might look insane but she knew who she was pointing at.
Yes, it is all because of the Goddess, because of her she got an unfair reputation for being a troublemaker! She was a kind little child! She wasn’t a troublemaker huhuhu. The Goddess definitely rolled her eyes at this.
"Please stop being mad at me! I’m just trying to help!" The Goddess cried. It wasn’t like the Goddess to make such direct demands without good reason. Trust me! I am doing this for your own good!
While they were arguing about the destination, the knights sent by her father stared at them nervously. They looked at each other not knowing what to do.
"Okay listen! Dimitri, the source of the plague is near the mountains near the Holy Temple! We are not actually going there!" Adeline argued. She wanted to get rid of this plague as soon as possible.
She blamed herself for it. She made various changes to the story... And this was the consequence. The Goddess told her the source of the plague but didn’t tell her who caused it...
Adeline hesitated. Did she trust the Goddess? Not entirely. But this time, the Goddess’s urgency felt genuine. If there really was a way to stop the plague at its source, then she couldn’t ignore it.
There were many things that the Goddess kept a secret... Keeping some information from Adeline was crucial to her plan. She couldn’t risk it by telling her everything right now. When the time comes, she will be sure to tell her everything!
Now was not the time!
Dimitri didn’t want to shut her out, and also he couldn’t. She was a noble lady, she was the master here, he... Was just some servant who got lucky.
Adeline and the others told him many times he was not just a ’mere servant’, he was never one to begin with. But it had been fixed in his mind, he knew his place. He could only hope to make a name for himself in the Mage Tower so he could stand next to her as an equal.
"Trust me, this is one step closer to bringing down the Holy Temple." Adeline put her hands on her hips with confidence. She was not that confident though, she still didn’t know how she would heal people without letting anyone know she had powers!
She couldn’t make those butterflies again, that would drain her completely. But she couldn’t give up! No matter how dangerous it might be, it was something she had to do.
He sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Fine. I’ll trust you on this," he said reluctantly. "But if anything goes wrong..." He wanted to finish the sentence but he couldn’t bring himself to. He would never forgive himself if something happened to her.
"It won’t," Adeline interrupted with a confident smile. She wasn’t as confident as she pretended to be, but she had no intention of letting Dimitri see that.
"Change the coordinates," She ordered the knights. "We will be teleported near the Holy Temple."
The knights hesitated, clearly uneasy about the new instructions. One of them cleared his throat. "My lady, are you certain? The Holy Temple is not a place to approach lightly." They did not know the whole situation as the Marquess intended to keep it a secret.
What they do know was that the Holy Temple called back healers causing damage to their borders, and many of their fellow comrades were injured or succumbed to their injuries... The Holy Temple was the official enemy of the West.
Adeline shot him a pointed look. "Do as I say," she said firmly. "When my father is not here, I am the one with the most authority." She wished she was as capable as her brothers.
If she was, they wouldn’t doubt her orders. But to them she was a wilful child who intended to cause more trouble, she thought. They didn’t find her troublesome, naive perhaps but they could never find their own lady troublesome!
The knights did not budge! They couldn’t! "I am sorry my lady, but we cannot follow your orders."
Adeline gritted her teeth, she could not wait to grow up. At least then people would take her more seriously! If they would only see her as nothing more than a wilful child, then that was exactly what she was going to be.
"Fine." She said with a frown on her face. The knights breathed a sigh of relief thinking that their lady gave up on that idea, but her next words made them frown.
"You don’t have to take me there. I will be going there myself! Now, you can follow me there and protect me, or go back and tell my father you abandoned his precious daughter!" She yelled loudly.
The knights didn’t expect that she would be this stubborn, but come on, this wasn’t their first time dealing with Adeline, what did you expect?
She grabbed Dimitri’s hand and ran towards the teleportation circle intending to activate it. The knights immediately acted, they had no time to waste! If their lady intended to go down, they had no choice but to go down with her!
It was either die protecting her, or die at the Marquess’s hand for not doing so.
Adeline would have rolled her eyes if she knew what they were thinking. You wont die! I have powers, I would just heal you. Hehe
