Chapter 115: I’m Here
Chapter 115: I’m Here
Her companion was only one person, the carriage driver... The poor man was basically forced by her. She had to do this... And being a five year old child who was not taken seriously, she had to use her status to threaten him.
"So, you found it." A voice echoes from behind. It was menacing and oozing with mockery at the same time.
The voice sent a shiver down her spine. She froze for a moment, her body tense with dread. That voice... It was unmistakable. But how could it be? She forced herself to turn, her eyes widening as they confirmed her fear.
Standing in the doorway, the Duke looked at her with a twisted smile, his gaze cold and calculating. He must have followed her in, watching and waiting as she uncovered the truth.
There was one obstacle though... The carriage driver, for someone as lowly as him where did he get the courage to obstruct him, the Duke? So... He got rid of him, he will get rid of everything that stood in his way.
He had Alice killed but this was the first time he did it himself, he went all the way to hide this truth, and there was nothing left for him to lose. He will do whatever it takes...
The realisation made her heart pound faster, and her grip on the birth certificate tightened instinctively. He had seen everything. She quickly got off the chair and hid behind it as if it could protect her.
He also saw that white glowing chair, but this was not the time to get answers to all of his questions, he needed that piece of paper! He could not let her get away with Everett’s birth certificate!
Then she noticed something... The faint glow from the holy chair in front of her. This gave her an idea, an insane and possibly impossible idea!
Her hands gripped the chair, her knuckles turned white. She had nowhere to run, he was standing at the entrance of the room, blocking her path.
The Duke took a slow step forward, his eyes never leaving the paper in her hand. "Give that to me," he demanded, his tone low and deadly. "Do you really think you can walk out of here with evidence that can incriminate me? That piece of paper belongs to me."
You have to act now,Adeline! She screamed to herself. She didn’t know where she got the courage from but she gripped that chair, lifted it up and threw it at the Duke!!
She used her powers to accelerate that chair so it would hit him hard! Who knew, a holy chair might actually save her life!
She watched as the chair flew in the air and landed on the Duke. He did not expect Adeline to pull this move, he was caught off guard! The chair landed on his face knocking him back.
Adeline took this time to make a run for it! She didn’t know if she threw it hard enough for him to get knocked unconscious. She just had to run!
Her little legs struggled as she made it down the hallways. She was huffing and puffing but dared not to stop. Just as she was about to get down the stairs, a hand caught her by the collar and pulled her back.
He wasn’t knocked unconscious, he was able to dodge the holy chair. He ran after her, he wasn’t going to let this brat get away with it. Reaching out his hand he grabbed the back of her collar and pulled.
He threw her aside and she fell hard on the ground, Adeline tumbled onto the floor, the impact jolting through her bones, leaving her momentarily stunned. Tears formed in her eyes but she did not have time to feel pain.
She forced herself up. She was cornered... Literally! She was in a corner and the Duke was not letting her leave.
On top of this, she was hurt! The evidence she collected flew out of her hand and landed near his feet. Pushing aside all the pain that she was experiencing, she attempted to crawl towards that paper trying to take it!
Just as she came close the Duke was prepared to kick her away. She wouldn’t let that happen! She formed a knife with her powers and decisively stabbed him in the foot. It went through the layers of his shoe... It went through his feet.
"AH! YOU BRAT!" He screamed in pain. Blood started seeping out and stained the place on the floor where his foot used to be. He staggered backwards trying to steady himself.
Adeline quickly grabbed that birth certificate and attempted to run away when that bloody foot blocked her way. Right before her eyes, the wound started healing...
"..."
"..."
"What did you think was going to happen?! It’s a knife made of holy powers!" The Goddess finally chimed in. Adeline didn’t have time to be annoyed at the Goddess, she had to escape!
After the Duke and Adeline stared at each other for a good moment, Adeline made a run for it, she used the tried and tested technique of sneaking from under someone’s legs and ran down the stairs.
But the Duke was not going to give up that easily, he reached for her again and this time grabbed her by the neck. He ripped the piece of paper from her hands and planned to throw her down the stairs hoping it would kill her...
But before he could do anything, a powerful gust of wind slammed and pushed him back. He flew and slammed against the wall, blood flowed from his head like a river.
Adeline was about to fall when a gentle breeze caught her. It gently lowered her to the bottom of the stairs.
She looked around quickly trying to find the piece of evidence she risked her life for! The piece of paper fluttered in the wind and landed on the dust-covered floor.
This could only mean one thing, Dimitri! She was confused and relieved at the same time. She was glad he was here, but how did he know that she was there?
She turned to see him flying to her and caught her in his arms. Adeline was worried about that birth certificate, she wanted to get down and pick it up. Dimitri on the other hand, could not care less about it!
The most important thing to him was the well-being of his lady. He carefully looked at her condition.
Adeline could almost cry, out of happiness and out of pain. Knowing that she was safe, she couldn’t stop reacting to everything that had happened. She felt so much pain when the Duke threw her on the ground.
Her face was covered in dust and her tears only made her look more pitiful. There were bruises on her knees and elbows. She was bleeding too.
"Don’t worry, I’m here." He looked gently at her tear-stained face. There was a mix of emotions he was going through. Angry that she didn’t tell him, sad that she didn’t trust him enough, relieved that she was safe... Frustrated that he couldn’t get there faster!
