The Last King Of Darkness -
Chapter 54 - 43: The Supporter
Chapter 54: Chapter 43: The Supporter
The supporters had already arrived, so why hadn’t they shown themselves?
Were they testing them?
Watching to see how they would respond in a perilous environment, letting them have an epiphany between life and death, unleashing astonishing strengths, breaking limits, and overcoming bottlenecks?
It was a possibility.
But Rod intuitively felt that wasn’t it.
There were many reasons for his judgment, but the most important was that tonight was Dark Moon Night, and the defense duties were extremely busy. The Guardians’ responsibility was to ensure the safety of regions and protect the people. They likely wouldn’t disregard the safety of other trainees and residents for such an unreliable trial.
If not so, then what was he trying to do by hiding in the shadows?
Could he be a hidden Doomsday believer?
A chill emerged in Rod’s heart.
He didn’t know exactly how strong Seventh Level combatants were, but they were definitely veterans of many battles.
Reslin and his team had just become official combatants and were already performing so proficiently. A person at the Captain Level could easily kill him.
Maybe he was waiting for an opportunity.
That was what Rod guessed.
Maybe Reslin and his team were too strong, which made him somewhat wary, afraid of leaving too many clues.
If that was the case, then killing the monster quickly might still give them a chance at survival.
But the situation ahead was not optimistic, the strength of the Black Crow exceeded their expectations.
It was a tough nut to crack.
Its defensive capabilities were strong where neither Reslin’s nor Egger’s attacks could inflict any damage. Its attacking power was very high and its speed so fast that as soon as Egger stopped using the white smoke to control it, it could instantly catch up to any of them.
Rod observed for several seconds, but the Black Crow’s Spiritual Energy was ironclad without showing any flaws.
He tried firing a shot, and the True Silver Bullet hit the Black Crow’s head right on the mark. The explosion of silver light almost engulfed its body, but it burst out of the silver light instantly with not a single scratch on its head.
Even the Strong Strike mode of the Spirit Gun couldn’t cause any damage.
But in the instant the bullet hit, Rod sharply noticed a slight gap appearing in the slow-moving Spiritual Energy of the Black Crow, which looked like asphalt.
According to Reslin, the monsters’ Spiritual Energy was always permeating their bodies, it was their instinct.
If there was a gap in Spiritual Energy, then their defense would also have a gap.
The gap was located under its jaw, the connection between its head and its body.
In other words, just at the moment the True Silver Bullet hit, a slide could inflict what was known as a "Weakness Strike" on the Black Crow.
But how could he tell them?
Rod hesitated.
If he shouted it out loud, would he act immediately?
The Guardian’s watch made him feel as if needles were on his back, and the unfavorable situation of the battle made him very anxious.
Reslin and his team’s Spiritual Energy had shown a significant decrease, the time that white smoke could limit the Black Crow was also getting shorter, Reslin’s movements had become slow, and some wounds had not been healed in time.
It wasn’t working.
They couldn’t drag this out any longer.
He had to take a risk.
Thinking this, Rod immediately shouted, "Reslin, when my bullet hits it, try attacking its neck at the jaw, it might be particularly effective."
Reslin rolled three times in a row, narrowly dodging the Black Crow’s strikes, just as Egger’s white smoke finally restrained it.
He stood up, his body covered in brown mud, only then did he have a moment to gesture to Rod that he understood, and then he rushed towards the Black Crow which was just turning its head to locate Egger.
Rod raised his gun, keeping a close watch on the Black Crow.
The struggle went on tensely, although it was three against one, the human side was at a significant disadvantage, with Reslin nearly gutted several times, each narrowly avoided.
The situation became increasingly dangerous, but Rod remained utterly still and calm, waiting for the opportunity.
When the black crow soared again and lunged at Reslin, he decisively fired his gun.
With the help of the Eye of the Soul, Rod’s marksmanship was unlocked, and the True Silver Bullets hit its head accurately, causing a powerful explosion that created a gap in its spiritual energy at the lower jaw.
Reslin did not disappoint, dodging the attack with a slide, and his body lit up with spiritual energy as Karamon timely amplified it for him.
Reslin roared, his entire body bursting with spiritual energy, enhanced on his long knife, fiercely stabbing it into the black crow’s lower jaw.
A loud shriek ensued, and the black crow instantly toppled over, its soul waveform in the jaw showing significant disruption, almost halting the flow of its spiritual energy.
Opportunity!
Without caring for anything else, Rod shouted, "Hit it now!"
Reslin immediately pulled out his long knife and slashed furiously, Egger’s white smoke morphed into a huge club, violently striking the fallen black crow, and even Karamon whipped fiercely with his long whip.
The chaotic soul waveform of the black crow indicated that it was suffering immense damage, but its overall soul waveform was gradually recovering, and although the spiritual energy had faded significantly, it was slowly circulating again.
It was about to stand up!
Until the second True Silver Bullet hit!
It pierced through its lower jaw, exploded in its neck, and blew the black crow into two pieces, sending its huge head flying tens of meters away, crashing against the wall of the sewer, bouncing back onto the damp and dirty ground, while its body split in half, landing in the pits where the sewage collected.
Dark light emerged from the remnants, countless black ashes dispersed like a swarm of locusts, but three converged into a thicker black line, which entered Rod’s body.
[Evil Black Crow’s Soul]
Great!
Rod felt a tremendous heat rising within him, the joy spreading to his limbs like honey, his entire being surrounded by intense warmth as the cold worries and fears left him.
He deliberately did not look back, quickly running over.
Being together at this time was the safest.
Reslin misunderstood his gesture, disregarding the mud all over him, and hugged Rod with a bear hug, joyfully exclaiming, "Rod brother! You are truly our savior!"
Egger, along with Karamon, fell from mid-air, and once the white smoke dissipated, they both rushed over and embraced together.
"Amazing, Rod brother, I knew you were fooling us! There’s nothing simple about special students!"
"Wuu wuu wuu! Wuu wuu wuu!"
Karamon could not speak a word, crying continuously, smearing his tears and snot all over Rod’s clothes.
Rod was also moved.
Before the battle, he thought they were confident, at least certain to some degree.
But seeing their excitement now, they probably weren’t so sure before the fight, perhaps having never faced such peril, and likely harbored a fatalistic belief.
Yet, at that moment, it didn’t show at all, only a few simple words:
"Let’s fight."
"I’m going."
Looking back now, those few words seem quite tragic.
At last, the outcome was quite good; they did not pay too high a price. If the Guardian had been the enemy, then he would have missed the best opportunity to act, and likely won’t make a direct move now.
But how should I tell them about this?
Rod hesitated for a moment when suddenly, Karamon shouted, "Monster Ash!"
He gleefully ran over and picked up a chunk of gray clumped matter from where the giant head of the black crow had disappeared.
Egger beamed with joy, "We’re in luck!"
Rod was unsure whether to ask or to speak when suddenly, rapid footsteps came from a corridor to the right, and in just seconds, four people dressed as Patrol Team members emerged from the corridor.
Reslin’s face immediately showed joy, "Great, you finally arrived!"
Karamon stashed the gray clumped matter into his chest, snorted and said, "Too late, the monster has already been wiped out by us!"
The four looked extremely surprised.
A person resembling a squad leader incredulously asked, "You wiped them out?"
