The Last King Of Darkness -
Chapter 341 - 240: The Car Flipped
Chapter 341: Chapter 240: The Car Flipped
Stepping into the Dream Realm, Rod immediately witnessed an odd spectacle.
The Book of Knowledge had come off the shelf on its own and was now sprinting across the ground.
Its stiff cover flapped open and shut against the floor, the white pages rustling wildly as it bounded along like a little dog.
Rod was dumbfounded.
What’s happening here? Has my perfectly good Book of Knowledge turned into a husky?
The Book of Knowledge, upon seeing his arrival, rushed over and kept smacking his leg with its cover.
You haven’t really turned into a dog, have you... Rod picked up the book and cautiously asked, "How... did you end up like this?"
The Book of Knowledge flipped through its pages impatiently, it had to wait for its owner’s questions to respond.
"I’ve consumed too much Spirituality."
"Need to let some of it out?"
Thwack! The Book of Knowledge gave his hand a solid slap.
"No! One hundred portions of Spirituality a day! Not one less, you promised me! Only by continuously consuming materials containing Spirituality can I restore my own Spirituality!"
"Oh, then what are you doing running around on the ground?"
"My Spirituality made me restless, so I came out to check."
"Did you find anything?"
The speed at which the Book of Knowledge flipped its pages slowed down, seeming a bit dispirited.
"No."
Well... Rod rubbed his forehead but didn’t pay too much attention. The book was always a bit odd, and it had taken him both threats and inducements to make it a bit more cooperative.
He did have some questions to ask it, though.
"Book, do you know about the distribution of mineral resources around Star Town and the neighboring areas?"
The pages of the Book of Knowledge flapped discontentedly.
"That is factual knowledge; answering it will consume my Spirituality."
Rod smiled, "No problem, I’ll feed you more Spirituality later, how about two hundred portions a day?"
The Book of Knowledge’s pages twisted awkwardly, then answered, "Alright... I’ll look it up."
"Hmm... Beneath Star Town, there is a True Silver Rich Ore, with branches containing high-grade Spirit Crystal Ore, an ordinary Sun Stone Mine, deep veins, and complicated cross-sections, making mining difficult, guarded by Crystal Stone Dragons and Crystal Giant Monsters."
Rod nodded.
He was aware of this information since the Royal City conducted detailed surveys of the nearby resource points, but those covered only veins that were exposed on the surface or already mined. The resource veins that needed exploration were hard to know about.
"To the south of Star Town, beneath Ghost Spirit Lake, there’s a rare Sun Crystal Mine with very deep veins, presenting a huge challenge to mine."
"To the north of Star Town, in the Black Water Swamp, there is an exceptionally large Star Light Ruby Vein, a surface vein with rich content and lower mining difficulty."
"To the west of Star Town, near the Isone Ruins... there’s nothing special, just an ordinary copper and iron vein."
After reading the text on the pages, Rod revealed a smile.
The expedition to Star Town did not come with many resources provided by the Royal City; most of the challenges had to be faced by him alone.
But likewise, he also had the right to freely dispose of the spoils of war.
Mineral veins were among those spoils.
This was originally a test set up by the Royal City to weigh the benefits and costs of the expedition, but now, it had become Rod’s stepping stone to take off.
"Hehe, just you wait and witness a miracle!"
Of course, everything he was doing ultimately aimed for Divinity.
And in the process of attaining Divinity, he would naturally accumulate vast amounts of Humanity.
Now, aside from the occasional need to strive for the Flower of Humanity, Humanity no longer required his attention; often, he merely had to show up to receive heaps of it.
With this in mind, Rod decided to ask in more detail about how to acquire Divinity.
He had asked similar questions many times before, and the Book of Knowledge appeared quite impatient.
"How many times have I said it? Any action that improves the odds of human survival will garner Divinity; the difference lies in the amount."
"What about opening up new living spaces for humans?"
"Of course!"
"What about establishing a prosperous human town and mining resources for the Royal City?"
"Of course!"
"Bringing new jobs to more people, giving them a new life, ensuring their safety?"
The Book of Knowledge frantically flipped through its pages, with the word "Of course!" written large on each one.
Rod laughed; his plan was flawless.
"By the way, I have one more question. Why was it so slow to receive Divinity last time?"
It took a long time after the campaign in the Third Battle Zone and the Black Tide task before he received Divinity.
The Book of Knowledge replied impatiently, "Divinity can only be tallied once every time the stars shine."
"How often is the period when the stars shine?"
"I don’t know."
"You don’t know?"
The Book of Knowledge answered, "Among the three phases, Star Phase is the most nebulous, apart from the Seven Luminaries, there are no fixed timings."
Rod scratched his head.
The three phases are Sun Phase, Moon Phase, Star Phase.
And he didn’t understand astrology; he only knew that when the seven astral bodies completed a fixed orbit cycle, it was the shortest period of stellar change, known as a week, which fixed at seven days.
"How short at least?"
"The shortest, a week."
"And at longest?"
"A cycle of the stars’ return."
The cycle of the stars’ return is a year, at the shortest 330 days, and at the longest 515 days.
Rod felt a bit uneasy; if it really dragged on that long, it would have a great impact on his plans.
"Can I observe it?"
"Yes, Star Square is used for observing the heavenly phenomena."
Star Square was that large plaza beneath the Obelisk, which Rod had never used before.
Under the guidance of the Book of Knowledge, he quickly mastered the use of Star Square.
When he infused his spirituality into it, he saw an endless starry sky, and he stood above the stars as if floating in the universe.
Following the methods provided by the Book of Knowledge, Rod soon had a preliminary grasp of how to recognize stellar phases.
"Hmm... the five stars retrograde, the handle of the Big Dipper shines together, tomorrow the sun will be obscured, the fire sign won’t appear, and disaster will occur after noon?"
The Book of Knowledge jumped up and smacked him on the head with a loud snap, the pages revealing several giant words:
"Look·here."
"The stars tremble, the stars fall back and then return... Three-quarters of the period for the stars to shine brightly has passed?"
The Book of Knowledge lay in his arms, huffing, unwilling to speak.
That reaction proved his judgment was correct.
Rod rubbed his chin.
If that was the case, then there should be no problem.
Even if he was extremely unlucky, it should arrive after more than a hundred days.
"Fantastic, book, don’t you think my learning ability is quite strong?"
The Book of Knowledge flipped its pages indifferently, "With divine sense bestowed upon you and you’re still so weak, you are the dumbest I’ve ever seen."
Rod immediately got angry, sticking his finger between the pages of the book, "What did you say?"
The Book of Knowledge shivered and wilted, "I said your wisdom is immensely profound."
"Who is the wisest person in this world?"
"It’s you, Master."
Rod satisfactorily set it down on the ground and patted its spine, "Go play."
The Book of Knowledge skittered away, its shaking pages seemingly filled with unprintable words.
Rod pretended not to see and returned to his cabin in high spirits, creating dream items on the stone platform.
Ha ha, it feels so great not to lack materials!
Mephit is amazing!
It’s worth mentioning that Rod was quite honorable about promises; as soon as the five million in silver coins arrived, he repaid the several hundred thousand he owed to Mephit.
Although she still seemed cold and indifferent on the surface, she contributed a Flower of Humanity to him.
Ha, women.
After a while, the Book of Knowledge skittered in from outside and watched for a while before suddenly slamming his heel.
Rod looked down and asked, "What’s the matter?"
The Book of Knowledge lay on the ground, opening its pages, which revealed several large words:
"Why have you created so many Undying Spirits?"
"Undying Spirit" is a special creation from the high-level Spirit Realm’s River of Eternal Death, granting him a unique ability to be invincible for thirty seconds.
Since Rod started ’hopping’ repeatedly, he had already made the fourth one.
And another special creation "Guardian of Darkness" had been made twelve times.
Special creations are both cheap and powerful, truly invincible, but the quantity limitation is bothersome.
Rod used his supremely high wisdom to figure out the method of repeated ’hopping,’ which was his proudest move; he hadn’t expected even the wisdom-renowned Book of Knowledge to be astonished.
Rod laughed heartily, proudly explaining this to it.
The Book of Knowledge lay quietly on the ground, as if dead.
Rod said with a laugh, "Book, aren’t you amazed? But this is just the tip of the iceberg of my boundless wisdom, I..."
Suddenly, the Book of Knowledge jumped up, furiously pounding his heel, its pages flapping wildly, almost crazed.
Rod stepped aside and demanded, "What are you doing? Have you gone mad?"
The Book of Knowledge opened its pages with full force, and a barrage of gibberish spilled out:
"Are you an idiot?"
Rod frowned, "What do you mean?"
More gibberish spilled forth, the Book of Knowledge was restricted by rules, and it was not allowed to insult its master, these were the swear words it had been blocked from saying.
After flipping through dozens of pages, the Book of Knowledge used the text of dreams to write.
"Every time a Dream Bubble enters a Spirit Realm area, it’s an invasion for them, and the more times you enter, the deeper the invasion, the stronger the enemies you will have to face."
"This is the self-defense mechanism of the Spirit Realm areas; among them sleep incredibly terrifying beings."
Every word on the page was huge and bold, piercing through the paper, revealing the Book of Knowledge’s despair.
"You’re as weak as crap, how dare you provoke them?"
