The Last King Of Darkness
Chapter 247 - 177: The Strongest Spell_2

Chapter 247: Chapter 177: The Strongest Spell_2

Almost immediately, Rod released his grip and leapt over, his Spiritual Energy surging rapidly as the sickle-shaped crescent on the back of his hand brightened quickly, with his right hand becoming transparent in an instant.

The very next moment, Rod plunged his hand in, and even the toughest Soul couldn’t withstand his Right Hand of Divine.

Boom.

A roaring sound from the Void erupted, and the giant insect hadn’t even moved at all before it was reduced to ash.

[Queen of Sigles’s Soul]

Soul Without Spirit +1402

Soul Without Spirit: 91222.

Wow...

Rod’s face broke into a grin.

This was yet another special Soul that possessed a part of the "Source".

Indeed, siding with the powerful was the best choice.

It was only when Rod’s gaze shifted to the name of the Soul that he realized this giant insect was the Queen.

Before he could make sense of it, Rod was lifted by an invisible force and flew back into the Dean’s hands, along with a lump of ashes.

"Hmm... This ash might make a good seasoning for rice."

"Let’s move on to the next thing."

Rod quickly put the Queen out of his mind and excitedly asked, "Where are we going now?"

"We’re going to support the Iron Armor Fortress warzone. The more strongholds we hold, the less damage in the warzone, the smaller the pressure on everyone, and the faster the recovery will be."

Rod asked, "Will Royal City send reinforcements?"

Theodore fell silent for a few seconds and then said, "Royal City should enact the Silver Oath by now, and the reinforcement troops might include those tabooed beings."

"What are tabooed beings?"

"They are those who should not exist, beings of taboo. With the Silver Oath, certain objects of taboo that should have been destroyed get a new lease of life. They are mobilized under special circumstances to make up for the shortfall in combat power."

"Are tabooed beings related to Tabooed objects?"

Rod knew that Tabooed objects were special Demons that had undergone multiple modifications; the giant bird that brought them to the battlefield was one of these Demons.

But he had never heard of tabooed beings.

Theodore’s expression became somewhat somber.

"They too are bound by the Silver Oath, but they are not the same. Some tabooed beings have issues with their Souls or possess certain forbidden Soul Traits, not because they are Demons corrupted by darkness."

A chill ran down Rod’s spine. His ability to Devour Souls was one of the taboos in Royal City, and this secret could absolutely not be leaked. He certainly didn’t want to be bound by the Silver Oath like a Demon.

He immediately changed the subject.

"I heard that the Iron Armor Fortress was breached by a corrupted Giant. Are we going to kill it?"

"No, we don’t need to go there as Alan is at the Iron Armor Fortress. We first need to secure the strongholds around Laisuo City. We’d best find and kill the Abyss Giant Snake, for only by doing so will the corrosion of the Abyss cease."

Theodore stated calmly, turning and flying due south.

Rod’s mood surged.

At this rate, he might be able to ignite a new Star pretty soon.

He had stockpiled several thousand Souls, with more than 90,000 Soul Without Spirit, plenty of materials, and ample funds.

As soon as the new Star was ignited, it would quickly reach its peak.

Suddenly, Rod’s thoughts stirred; he remembered his experience in the Underground Tomb when he touched that skull, fell into a Dark Abyss, and was forced to use "Spirit Realm Teleportation" to escape.

Now, the "Spirit Boat" had dimmed, and "Spirit Realm Teleportation" wouldn’t be available for another ten days.

That strange place, could it be the Abyss?

Could that strange hand stretching out from the bottom of the Abyss be the same serpent that the Dean mentioned?

Considering how terrifying the Abyss was, a snake having a hand wouldn’t be too strange, would it?

Thinking of this, Rod immediately relayed his experiences in detail, omitting only the dream-related specifics.

After listening, Theodore said, "That is a hidden Abyssal Rift."

"...Abyssal Rift?"

"A rift from the Abyss to the surface, spreading Demons and corruption to the ground, endowed with a significant level of Black Fog and degree of corruption, and potentially becoming the source of regional disasters."

"So what do we do about it?"

"Kill the Demons inside the rift and close it."

Rod felt a chill on his back and asked hesitantly, "Has it always existed, or did it appear due to some reason?"

"The exact cause of the formation of Abyss Rifts is not clear at the moment. Some scholars believe it is a phenomenon of the Abyss spreading upwards, trying to erode the Main Material World. Others think it is the result of the evolution of corruption. But they agree that Abyss Rifts are generally hidden underground and can be triggered by violent fluctuations of Spiritual Energy, such as in large-scale battles."

"Was this disaster caused by that?"

Theodore’s voice grew heavy.

"Yes."

Rod felt a chill climb up from the bottom of his heart.

If an Abyss Rift could be triggered like this, didn’t it mean that there were unknown dangers lurking everywhere underground?

Theodore seemed to see what he was thinking, and spoke gently, "The Royal City, including the Safe Zone of the Red Soil Plains, have all been thoroughly checked, and most of the Abyss Rifts have been destroyed. It’s just that occasionally, some Abyssal Demons scattered from the rifts are hiding underground, but they won’t pose a significant threat."

So that’s how it is.

Rod felt somewhat relieved, no wonder he had encountered Abyssal Demons before, no wonder the Royal City issued long-term tasks to hunt Abyssal Demons within the Safe Zone.

It was like clearing out a nest of bugs, with a few of them running away.

The impact wasn’t substantial, but it was somewhat disgusting nonetheless.

"This Abyss Rift must be destroyed, or else we will face even greater disaster."

Rod hesitated for a moment and asked, "Dean Theodore, should we just go like this?"

Theodore answered briefly, "The sooner, the better."

He quickened his pace and in a moment, he arrived above the narrow crevice where Rod had previously hidden.

Looking down, the crevice was full of wandering Living Corpses and monsters, with dead bodies immersed in Black Fog.

They were all victims from Laisuo City.

With a wave of his Magic Wand, an Arrow Rain of Spiritual Light enveloped the whole area.

Another wave of the wand, and fire consumed the corpses.

In the blink of an eye, there was no longer any living existence within five hundred yards of the crevice.

Theodore flew into the crevice with Rod.

The large hole he had dug before was right in front of them, the ground was covered with broken bones and tombstones.

"The Tomb of Spirits of Sigles was excavated empty by us a hundred years ago."

Theodore walked down the large hole, and soon arrived in front of the tomb that Rod had dug out.

At this moment, the entrance of the tomb was filled with a thick black substance.

"It really is an Abyss Rift."

Theodore flicked his finger, casting a Spiritual Light Defense on them both.

"Little Rod, you have made a great contribution once again. Perhaps you should join the Military War Department and become a Commander."

"...Really?"

Theodore nodded, and the two stepped into the thick blackness together.

In the next instant, they found themselves in the boundless Dark Abyss.

Above, below, left, right, there was nothing but endless darkness.

But this time, Rod was not alone, and he was not falling downwards. Instead, he was flying down willingly.

Theodore’s body surged with Spiritual Energy, pulling Rod at unprecedented speed towards the Bottom of the Abyss.

The feeling of taking initiative was completely different; the passive fear moved far away from him.

Shortly, what he originally thought was a bottomless Abyss, had a bottom.

This was an immensely vast and gloomy wasteland, barren and dark, with nothing else present.

In the depths of the wasteland lay an enormous Undead.

It was so colossal, at least the size of half a city.

But at that moment, it seemed to have entered a dormant state, showing no reaction.

Rod and Theodore stood before it, like mere gnats.

But these two gnats were far from ordinary.

Theodore raised his Magic Wand, and infinite Spiritual Energy silently concentrated at the tip of the wand.

Rod also jumped down, hiding in the distance, ready for action.

The wand quickly became snow-bright, like a pool of liquid light.

Rod looked up at the Dean suspended in mid-air, unable to imagine the Spiritual Energy gathering in his wand. It appeared to be his Soul Weapon.

They say that every strong person in the Royal City has his own Soul Weapon.

Hmm... I need to get one too, one that is powerful and must not have any connection with a barrel.

Amid scattered thoughts, the strongest Spell Caster among humans finally made his move. The wand was slightly raised and the massive head of the wand gently dipped down.

In the next instant, it was as if the sun appeared in the Abyss.

Endless light illuminated the bottomless darkness, piercing towards the Undead like countless long spears.
