The Last King Of Darkness -
Chapter 105 - 79: Where’s the Monster?_2
Chapter 105: Chapter 79: Where’s the Monster?_2
After walking for at least a quarter of an hour, they finally reached the bottom.
Rod looked up, the bottomless darkness enveloped above him, he could only see the statue’s feet, no way to tell how tall it actually was.
Just how deep is this sewer?
A thought crossed Rod’s mind.
Could it really be connected to the Abyss?
The base of the statue was a mud pond, pitch-black with a sticky and heavy consistency. The intense rot was so overpowering that not even the Purification Ointment could hold it back.
Molly handed out a new lump of it to everyone, and only after they had wrapped their noses completely did it become somewhat bearable.
After a moment’s walk.
Professor Bins suddenly dashed to the right, shouting, "Here, this is the place!"
He took a tripod out of his bosom, and then a large disk, which lit up with the glow of Spiritual Energy. Molly jogged over and added more components from her backpack onto it.
Nightwing and his teacher were similar, assembling this unknown device with them as if possessed.
"Not enough Spiritual Energy!"
Professor Bins suddenly yelled out.
Nightwing immediately placed his hand on the disk, a look of ecstasy suddenly surfacing on his face:
"So deep! It’s very deep underground! This couldn’t possibly have been built by the Habakuk people!"
"Who, then?" Professor Bins asked with eyes red, his entire skeletal frame swaying as if about to burst out of his skin.
"Art, I feel art! Nude figurative sculptures! Intricate patterns! Circular architecture! It’s the Tulu Dynasty!"
"The Tulu Dynasty?"
With great puzzlement in his voice, Professor Bins seemed to be caught in a vortex of conflict, murmuring, "How could it be the Tulu Dynasty?"
It took Rod a while to understand.
The architecture they spoke of lay beneath the mud pond, and that disk-shaped device could detect underground structures.
Rod didn’t quite understand all this history, hence he couldn’t fathom why they all acted as if stricken with mad fits, Molly included to an extent.
Seeing that they were fully engrossed in the device, Rod had no choice but to keep watch alone with the Eye of the Soul activated.
This mud pond was incredibly vast, stretching beyond what the eye could see. But fortunately, there were no physical obstructions, so Rod’s effective line of sight was extremely far.
Apart from some wandering dust, there was nothing else in this place, utterly empty.
It seemed the mission would soon be over.
Rod thought to himself.
After this, I’ll ask them for a map of the Royal City Sewer.
The sewer was divided into several regions like Upper, Middle, Lower Tilles, Aifeid, etc., it’s really troublesome without a map.
With my help, this mission has been so smooth, there shouldn’t be any problems, right?
However.
The moment Rod turned his head, he didn’t think so anymore.
He clearly saw another Mutated Demon Spider rapidly crawling down toward them from the statue.
"Monster!"
Rod shouted, but the three of them acted as if they heard nothing, continuing their work.
"A Mutated Demon Spider!"
Rod shouted again, still no response.
Alright, let’s try this once more.
Rod pushed another Sealing Spirit Bullet into the Spirit Gun, and Spiritual Energy quickly poured into the gun, the Spirit Pressure Gauge rising swiftly.
Rod aimed the gun at the Mutated Demon Spider.
This bullet was worth a fortune, it absolutely must not miss!
Bang!
The sound of the lightless gun went off, the Mutated Demon Spider’s body trembled, its legs went limp, and it fell from the statue.
Boom!
With a loud noise, the black mud splattered in all directions, but the body of the Mutated Demon Spider remained completely unharmed.
Rod leapt forward, ignoring the fine legs covering the Mutated Demon Spider’s body like whips, thrust his semi-transparent right hand into the breach of its soul, grabbed hold of its soul thread, and yanked fiercely.
Bang!
The massive body burst apart as if its strings were cut, black dust filled the air, obscuring Rod’s vision.
[Large Soul Fragments +6]
[Soul Without Spirit +33]
Tsk.
That was a bit underwhelming.
But soon enough, compensation came.
Rod looked up and saw two more Mutated Demon Spiders descending from the statue towards them.
They came one after the other, with incredible speed.
Rod didn’t hesitate for a second, immediately pushing two Sealing Spirit Bullets into the Spirit Gun.
He fired twice in succession, and two house-sized giant spiders fell from the sky.
Rod used Soul Blast twice in succession and killed them.
[Mutated Demon Spider Soul]
[Soul Without Spirit +36]
[Large Soul Fragment +7]
[Soul Without Spirit +31]
Not bad.
When Rod lifted his head for the third time, his expression changed.
At least six Mutated Demon Spiders were quickly crawling towards them from the statue.
What’s going on?
Did I poke a spider’s nest?
As Rod rapidly refilled the Sealing Spirit Bullets, he shouted, "Danger! Come help me! There are six Mutated Demon Spiders coming!"
No one answered.
Turning his head, Rod saw a three-dimensional image of a building on the disc, and all three of them were staring intently at the image, manipulating the disc meticulously.
"Are you guys done yet? Monsters are coming, and they are strong!"
Only Nightwing shouted, "Wait a minute! The building plan is about to be imprinted into the Spiritual Energy Imager!"
After saying that, he lowered his head and continued his work.
Damn it.
Rod knew he couldn’t hesitate and had to start shooting.
But.
A Heavy Strike from the gun required a two-second charge, and Sealing Spirit Bullets couldn’t be shot with a light tap from the Spirit Gun, as there wasn’t enough Spiritual Energy.
A Soul Blast required at least five seconds of preparation.
Even with perfect coordination, it would take thirty seconds to kill so many Mutated Demon Spiders.
But the Mutated Demon Spiders were extremely fast and would reach the ground in ten seconds at most.
There was no choice but to take medicine.
Rod quickly pulled out the Red Powder and poured it directly into his mouth, swallowing it.
In an instant, it was as if he had swallowed a burning coal, an intense heat traveling down his throat to his stomach, then spreading throughout his body.
Spiritual Energy started to boil.
Good!
Rod raised his gun; Spiritual Energy surged into it, sending the Spirit Pressure Gauge skyrocketing.
In just one second, the gun fired.
A Mutated Demon Spider fell.
While continuing to charge energy, Rod lifted his right hand, a sickle pattern appeared in his mind, and Spiritual Energy poured out furiously.
Bang.
The second shot.
Another Mutated Demon Spider fell.
The third shot.
The third Mutated Demon Spider fell.
At the same time, the crescent Moon Hook on the back of his hand lit up; Rod jumped in front of the first Mutated Demon Spider and reached for its Soul Void.
Bang.
The fourth shot.
The fourth Mutated Demon Spider fell.
At the same time.
The soul of the first Mutated Demon Spider was torn apart and turned into black dust.
Rod continued to shoot, while also charging energy.
When the sixth Mutated Demon Spider crashed to the ground, the second one had already been torn apart.
After tearing apart the third Mutated Demon Spider, the fourth one was recovering from its stiff, paused state, and the fifth one was showing similar signs.
To be safe.
Rod had no choice but to give each one an additional shot and killed the sixth Mutated Demon Spider at the same time.
Finally, he turned to kill the fourth and fifth ones.
At this point.
All six Mutated Demon Spiders were exterminated.
A total of eight Sealing Spirit Bullets were used.
"I’m ready! Rod, I’m coming to help you!"
Nightwing shouted and jumped over.
"Don’t be afraid, I’m here."
He looked around.
"Where’s the monster?"
