The Last King Of Darkness -
Chapter 104 - 79: Where’s the Monster?
Chapter 104: Chapter 79: Where’s the Monster?
"Don’t come any closer!"
As the battle dragged on, the Mutated Demon Spider became frenzied. It crazily spat green pus, its slender legs flailing in the air like countless disheveled strands of hair.
Yet Nightwing’s attacks always bore poor results. He only knew the Spell Sword and Light Cannon, two attack spells, alongside Levitation Skill and Phantom Jump, which summed up his entire skill set.
In the ranks of Spellcasters, he belonged at the bottom.
His only advantage was substantial Spiritual Energy and prolonged combat experience, which made him prefer attrition tactics when facing stronger monsters.
However, this was in a sewer where both his height for floating and space for maneuvering were limited.
The Mutated Demon Spider could swiftly crawl on the walls, and Nightwing quickly found himself in a highly disadvantageous situation.
Rod had been observing from a distance. Since the fight began, the Mutated Demon Spider’s Spiritual Energy had never faltered, and Nightwing’s attacks only drained it without causing any disruption, pause, or vulnerability.
Perhaps, it was time to try the Sealing Spirit Bullet.
With a click, Rod swiftly ejected the True Silver Bullets from the back of the barrel and loaded a Sealing Spirit Bullet.
Raising the gun with one hand, he switched his vision to a dual state of physical and Spiritual Vision. His gaze, like a spear, extended along the barrel, aiming at the swiftly moving monster on the wall.
It caught up with Nightwing, pounced fiercely, and its slender legs, like numerous fine hairs, rolled up, entangling Nightwing.
Bang!
Rod fired his gun.
There was no flame at the muzzle, nor was there a trail behind the bullet.
However, the Mutated Demon Spider, as if bewitched, trembled violently. All its legs slackened, and its massive body fell from the top of the sewer, crashing heavily into the wastewater below.
In Rod’s eyes, its Spiritual Energy paused, and a huge hollow appeared at the spot where it was hit.
With a tap of his toes, Rod’s Spiritual Energy vibrated, and in an instant, he flew to the fallen spider.
With a thought, the image of a sickle emerged in his mind, Spiritual Energy surged upward, and his right hand became translucent in an instant, with a sickle-shaped hook pattern lighting up on the back of his hand as the light of Spiritual Energy steamed out.
Rod aimed right at the soul’s hollow, thrust his right hand fiercely, and once again felt countless soul threads.
He grabbed them, pulling violently outwards.
Hiss—
The enormous soul collapsed directly. Its Soul Body fragmented, and the Spiritual Body scattered and flew.
[Mutated Demon Spider’s Soul]
[Soul Without Spirit +23]
Great!
A surge of ecstasy rose in Rod’s heart.
I am no longer just a rookie good at handling guns.
"Soul Blast" is too powerful!
Such a fierce monster is a one-hit kill.
As long as I make it reveal a flaw, I win.
"Sealing Spirit Bullet" is simply the perfect match. The Mutated Demon Spider’s Spiritual Energy was like a solid iron plate, guarding its soul like armor. Nightwing fought for so long without causing a single pause or disruption, but one Sealing Spirit Bullet hit created such a big flaw.
Doesn’t that mean I only need one "Sealing Spirit Bullet," one "Soul Blast," to kill a very strong monster?
Moreover, perhaps because he shredded the soul, Rod also gained some extra Soul Without Spirit.
Although it wasn’t much, every little bit counts — each additional soul fragment is an additional ounce of strength.
In that case, is the invasion in nine days still a problem?
The dust cleared, and the monster’s massive body was reduced to mere ashes. Nightwing came up, picking a Condensed Matter from it, his expression complex as he said, "You’re really strong."
Molly applauded cheerfully, "Big brother, you’re awesome!"
Rod, in a good mood, teased her, "Where am I awesome?"
Molly blinked her big eyes, softly saying, "Everywhere awesome."
From her blushing ears, she obviously understood.
Nightwing let out a long sigh, "Rod, what’s so good about women? If you have time, come with me, I’ll show you the depth of history, and you’ll understand how trivial romantic affections between men and women are under this millennium of sorrowful songs."
His words greatly offended Molly.
On the road that followed, she ignored Nightwing and refused to provide him with the supplies he needed.
Left with no choice, Nightwing had to consume his own Potions.
Out of spite, Molly gave all of his portion, including twelve Soul Red Crystals, a dose of Spirit Tree Dew, and one Moon Rose Potion, to Rod.
Rod, somewhat at a loss, glanced at him. Nightwing sighed, "Take them," with a look as if his heart had died.
Professor Bins looked at him deeply, saying nothing.
The team continued onward, and after dealing with another small group of monsters, they finally reached their designated location.
This was an immensely large space, with great disparities in elevation, resembling an underground tower. Water fell from a break in the surface, its sound endlessly trickling.
The firelight here was very dim, and darkness, like the Abyss, swallowed the path downwards.
"This is the place."
Professor Bins’ expression instantly became excited.
"This is a Guardian God statue built by the Sosased Empire. According to our current historical deductions, below is a tomb constructed by the Habakkuk people. If not, history will have to be split from here!"
He lifted the Spirit Lamp and quickly found a path downward.
This was a very steep staircase.
Walking down, Rod only then realized they were standing on the head of a giant statue.
The steps were high and lacked any form of safety measures, but Professor Bins still moved briskly. Rod, looking into the seemingly bottomless darkness, felt as though they were walking further into the abyss.
