Chapter 82: Rafael’s maid (1)

"Young master, did you need to scare the young lady? She will tell her father," Edwin said, worrying about what tomorrow would bring.

"And what is there to be afraid of when it comes to her father? Rafael is the commander of the knights. Stop speaking like his actions were wrong when he gave her plenty of time to leave," Christian said, peering down at the butler who was starting to annoy him. "Did she really try to undress in front of you, Rafael?"

"Do not speak of it," said Rafael. He did not want to hear anything about Delilah trying to undress before him. "Edwin, tell the guards at the gates not to come to me asking for permission if her parents were to come to speak with me."

"Yes, young master," Edwin answered, leaving Rafael’s side to do as he was told.

"She’s bold. Delusional and bold is a bad combination for a girl who is in love with you. It really brings out that if she can’t have you then no one can side with women. She’s not going to leave you be," Christian said, knowing this matter would not end there.

This was the beginning of Delilah either going harder to get Rafael’s attention or wanting to ruin him for rejecting her.

Rafael wasn’t worried about himself. What Delilah or her father could think to do to him for how he sent her off would not scare him. However, he did worry for Annalise who had no power to her name and no relatives in town to help her.

"She’s going to go after Annalise. Keep watch over her," Rafael ordered Christian.

"Annalise or Delilah? You do know there are other men who can watch each one. I have a group of knights to train so I can’t do anything else. Why not let Logan watch over Annalise or make her your maid?" Christain suggested as they were both options to make him not have to play nanny.

Rafael stopped and looked at Christian. He was not in need of a personal maid and giving Annalise that position would only make the other maids continue to believe he was giving Annalise special treatment.

Rafael did not like the idea of Logan watching her since he would be caught up in his feelings to do the job right.

Christian now had a brilliant idea. He said time and time again that one of his friends would get their heart broken when it came to Annalise. He wanted that friend to be Logan. He had not forgotten how Rafael watched Annalise down by the river and he had not missed the little rock on Rafael’s desk. Other than a knight, he would be a matchmaker and a heartbreaker.

"Who else to protect her better than you? We can keep an eye on her, but if Delilah or her parents make a move on Annalise, we cannot intervene much as you can. It is partially your fault that Delilah is going after her. Make her your personal maid until this situation with Delilah blows over or fire her and send her back to the town she came from, but then she can’t help her family with money-"

"Shut up," Rafael interjected as he knew Christian was trying to guilt him into taking Annalise as his maid. He could not fire her because of what Delilah was doing. "I will think about it," he said.

"Good good," Christain smiled. He could not wait to tell the news to Logan who would have no idea why this was a problem for his little love life.

"Is there something you need to say to me?" Rafael asked, looking over his shoulder at Christian who was still following him after they came back inside.

"No. I should get back to training my group. I forgot why I came looking for you."

Rafael watched Christian leave trying to hold his laughter about something. Rafael didn’t see what the joke was. Was it about Delilah almost stripping or him taking Annalise as his maid? He decided to conclude that Christian was just stupid.

Instead of going back to his study, Rafael headed towards the kitchen to search for Mavis. The head maid needed to know he was considering Annalise to be his maid and she needed to know why to help put an end to ridiculous assumptions before they would reach his ears.

Annalise was the last person he would have thought of to be his maid since there was no telling what insect she would be leaving around his bedroom when he did something to upset her and then act like she had no idea how it had gotten there.

"Oh! Young master," Mavis’s eyes lit up when she found Rafael walking down the hall leading to the kitchen. "Do you need something to eat or drink? Is there a guest?" She asked. She heard from one of the maids that they saw Delilah going up to the second floor.

"I need to talk to you about picking a maid for myself. In private," Rafael said, looking ahead at the servants going in and out of the kitchen.

Mavis was confused about why Rafael suddenly wanted a maid for himself when he had made it clear on many occasions that he did not need one. Still, Mavis was glad he wanted a maid since she had the perfect maid who would serve him well and relay any information they heard to her. Laura was the perfect choice for Rafael’s maid.

Mavis followed Rafael away from the kitchen to the small library, where no one but the maids who cleaned it would enter

Mavis hurried inside and closed the door. "I have the perfect maid to serve you, young master. Her name-"

"I already have a maid in mind. There is a problem that I will need to take care of for the next few days, and I am in need of your help. Delilah might be targeting Annalise soon, and to keep Annalise safe, she will become my maid. I need you to make sure the maids do not start up with any relationship assumptions or try to bully her. I also do not need any more maids crossing a line and telling me how I treat any other maid," said Rafael.

Mavis felt the world stop when Rafael said he wanted to take Annalise as his maid. Annalise out of all the maids in his home? She didn’t hear much of what he said about Delilah since she was busy wrapping her head around Annalise becoming his maid. She could not control Annalise.

Mavis could not get Annalise to tell her about any conversations she overheard while she served Rafael. Annalise started to act as Mavis wanted these past few days, but Annalise was not at the point where Mavis could trust her to tell her news.

"Wait! Did one of my maids approach you, young master? Who did?" Mavis asked, curious about the fool who skipped coming to her and went to Rafael. Had the maid lost her mind?

Rafael did not know the name of the maid who came to him, just as he did not know many of the other servants’ names. "I cannot tell you the name since I have never asked. She has short brown hair, and I saw her lingering around Annalise."

’Aria?’ Mavis wondered. It was the first maid that came to mind, but why would she go to Rafael to talk about how he treated the maids? She was usually quiet as she did her work. Mavis now found it suspicious that Aria had recently spoken up to tell her about the maids by the river. ’Who is she feuding with?’
