The Knight's Mysterious Maid -

Chapter 80: Whatever it takes (1)
Delilah felt like someone had stabbed her in the chest with a knife repeatedly and then taken out her heart when they were finished. Never had her heart ached this much. One tiny mistake was costing her relationship with Rafael.
She was somehow strong enough to stand on her feet when he rejected her feelings, but to be banned from his house had her on the verge of fainting.
"And what has your maid gotten as a punishment for what she did?" Delilah asked, clenching her fists. She wanted nothing more than to find Annalise and strangle her. Annalise should have quietly given her the dress when she asked for it. No, Annalise should not have received a gift from Rafael in the first place.
It was not fair for her to be the only one punished. She was letting go of her anger for a moment to please Rafael, but since he was pushing her out of his life, she would do as she wanted with Annalise.
Rafael didn’t respond to Delilah’s question. He had said everything that needed to be said on his end. She had no place to question him about what he would do with Annalise. What he wanted was for her to get out of his home now that she heard from him that she was no longer welcome here.
Delilah could not run to her father and say there was some misunderstanding as to why she could not enter Rafael’s home since she had heard it from Rafael’s mouth.
Rafael would like it if her parents stopped coming too. He didn’t hate them, but the only reason he would let them stay for dinner was because of his mother. They were her friends.
If it wasn’t his parents or friends, Rafael preferred to sit alone at his table for dinner.
"Answer me," Delilah demanded, raising her voice. How was she to get rid of her jealousy when Rafael acted like this when it came to Annalise? He was provoking her. Pushing her to get rid of Annalise. Then there was Giselle who Rafael let enter his home freely.
"I only have myself to blame for letting you inside," Rafael sighed, regretting his decision. Delilah was still that little spoiled girl who threw tantrums when she didn’t get her way and tried to order everyone around. She had been doing a good job of acting like she had matured for a bit.
"I am going to make her life like hell," Delilah said, no longer just wanting to get back at Annalise for the beetles. Rafael was treating Annalise better than he did with her. Annalise and any other woman Rafael was being nice to have to get out of town.
Rafael didn’t know if to worry for Annalise or be worried for Delilah. Annalise had this strange ability to get back at anyone trying to bother her. He slapped his face when he imagined Annalise trying to get the chickens and snakes to follow her as if she was the commander of their army.
Still, he had to keep an eye on Annalise more than ever since Delilah had the resources to go after Annalise. If Delilah had spent this energy on moving on from Rafael and finding another man to marry, everyone in this room would be happy right now.
"Delilah, do not anger me further," Rafael warned. He was going easy on her because of their history, but she was pissing him off more than ever. He was far beyond his limit to tolerate her childish behavior.
"All I ever wanted was for you to show me a bit of attention-"
’You wanted me to marry you. That’s more than a little attention. That is my life worth of attention and that is something I am not willing to do. With you at least. I suggest you leave now and take Annalise off of your mind. Do not let this unnecessary jealousy ruin you," Rafael advised her.
Delilah desperately wanted to marry. If she continued to focus on this imaginary relationship she believed he had with Annalise, the season would be over and she would miss her chance to be with another man.
"Why not me? It has to be more than me just being like your sister. I am more beautiful than any of the women you have crossed paths with. I come from a family with money. I am much better than a lowly maid!" Delilah argued, tempted to throw the bottle in her hands to wake him up.
Rafael rested his cheek on his right hand as he watched Delilah slowly reveal her true nature. She was pushing him to make her cry if she continued to ask about why he didn’t want her. He granted her his kindness each time he denied her feelings. Even now, he was being kind to not throw her out on her ass for acting a fool.
Delilah sometimes had a habit of looking down on others who were not born with a silver spoon in their mouths. Her driver, maids, butler, and anyone else who served her were below her in her eyes. Delilah forgot that Rafael’s father was just an orphan boy who rose to be what he was now.
Rafael was not born into what he had now. He remembered the simple life he had in the early days of his youth. Staying in a home that did not belong to his father, but to the knight who raised him. His father’s years as a knight and then becoming the commander of knights had started to earn him enough money to get the manor that Rafael now owned.
A large place like a small castle to shelter the knights who followed River and those who had no home to return to. Many like to forget about his father’s humble beginnings until they were talking about him stealing his mother from her family. Then they made sure to call him an orphan.
Each time Delilah looked down on those she viewed below her in the past, she had pushed Rafael further away from her.
Rafael decided to give her more of the harsh truth. "For a man and a woman to be able to marry, they should at least be attracted to each other. For me to consider loving you, you should be the woman that I desire. I do not love you, and I will never desire to have your body, which is why I wanted you to stop offering it."
"You could stand before me with a lack of clothing, and it would not stir anything inside of me. I see you as a child in a woman’s body. Stomping your feet on the ground when you do not get your way. You are a beautiful woman who will make it hard for your husband to stay away from you, but that man is not me. I wish to be far away from you. I would rather be at war than deal with your childish behavior," said Rafael.
"You!" Delilah bit her lips, trying to hold back her tears. She had spent many years molding herself into the perfect woman for him, yet he only thought of her as a child since she had not been flaunting her body around like Delilah.
If he could not easily accept her love, then she would trap him. He would one day get rid of his hatred and love her. Delilah touched the string of her dress and started to untie it. Being the gentleman that she knew him to be, he would take responsibility for seeing her body.
