Chapter 372: Dresses (2)
"There she is," Beatrice said, standing up to greet Annalise. "She is the one the dresses are for. Not me."
There was a misunderstanding as to who was the lady of the manor since everyone knew Rafael was not married so the dressmaker thought it was Beatrice getting new dresses.
Beatrice knew there would be more incidents like this in the future and thought of doing something to make Annalise’s presence known to the town. The only problem was pointing Travis right to Annalise.
Beatrice could not enjoy taking Annalise around to introduce her to the women she was close to or just spending a day in town just the two of them without any guards. To make up for the limited activities she could do with Annalise, she thought of hosting a small party in her home.
Annalise already had Giselle as one guest. The maids whom Annalise was still friends with could attend alone with the women among the knights. Just women who would enjoy the party and not bring any drama to it. The dresses came in time for Beatrice to help pick one for Annalise to wear to the party. She also had a surprise.
"Annalise, this is Griffin, the man I consider to be the best at making dresses along with his sister. She could not be here today because she just had her first baby," Beatrice said, clapping her hands out of excitement for the new life coming into the world.
"She would love to be here, but she has to be careful after all that has happened. I hope I can impress the lady to have you working with us again," Griffin said, ready to gain another customer. "I received a note about pants. Will Sir Rafael be coming to try them on?"
"Oh no," Beatrice said, sitting back down. "They are for Annalise. This will be our little secret, right Griffin?" She asked, winking at him. She didn’t need it getting out that pants were made for Annalise to wear around the manor to train with the knights or just run around in. "They are for her to wear inside the manor to be comfortable."
"Of course," Griffin answered, not needing to be told twice to keep his mouth shut. He wasn’t going to lose Beatrice as a customer and have Rafael hate him for sharing private matters. "That will work because I was worried the pants I have would not fit him."
Griffin stared at Annalise, imagining the pants on her. "I’ve only made a few pants for ladies doing horseback riding, but I can give it a try for stylish pants to wear at home. If you don’t mind, give me a week to come up with some ideas."
"You can take a month if you need as long as I can wear pants. One that I can run around in and easily kick someone. Not like this to weigh me down," Annalise said, trying her kick her right foot, but was stopped by her dress. "See. It holds me back."
"I see. I can make the pants light and stretch if I get my hands on the right material. It’ll be a great new work for me to finish," Griffin said, excited to try something new. Stylish pants for a lady to run around and kick someone with was a first for him, but he welcomed the challenge.
"I like you," Annalise said, moving to sit beside Beatrice. The pants had pulled her in and now she was willing to give the dresses a try. She had some ideas for the dresses to have little pockets to hold her knives and a little pocket to walk around with Herbert inside.
Giselle wasn’t thrilled about pants for fighting in, but if they were pretty, she would love them to wear when she rode horses.
"It would be wonderful if we get rid of dresses altogether and just wear pants with shirts all over town," said Annalise.
"Now you are losing me," Giselle said, against this idea. She loved all of her dresses and was not willing to give them up. "It is mostly the working women wearing pants to move around better. I do not work so I will stick to my beautiful dresses."
"I have to agree that I am a lover of dresses so I cannot give them up, but I wouldn’t be against wearing more pants. I must confess that I’ve worn River’s pants when I worked in my garden. I’ve not gotten any of my own because- oh!" Beatrice covered her mouth as she remembered how this story ended.
There was something about River being surprised to see her in his pants and shirt which were baggy on her that led to the two of them being intimate in the garden. She avoided the servant’s eyes for a week.
Beatrice didn’t want any pants of her own if she could just wear River’s clothes and excite him.
"Sit with us," Beatrice said to Heidi. "We’ll be in here for hours. We should have some snacks and a few drinks with some alcohol to make this even more fun. There should be some wine around since Rafael doesn’t use them."
"Hours?!" Annalise exclaimed, horrified to hear she would spend hours trying on dresses. She was willing to be here for an hour, but more than that was too much. "It can’t be that I will be trying on dresses so long we will be here for hours. Do you mean we will be chatting for hours?"
"There are a lot of dresses for you to pick from and have adjusted," Beatrice replied, pointing to the dresses Griffin had brought into the room. "I also see shoes and bags we will need to pick from. You cannot run away, Annalise. You need to stay to pick what you like. What you are comfortable with."
"Isn’t it possible for me to only need to try one dress and just look at the others?" Annalise asked.
"No. I will need you to try on what you pick so I can see if it needs adjustments or if you can have it right away. When you need more new dresses, I will have your measurements to help make this go a little faster. Are you ready?" Griffin asked, going back to look through the dresses for what he thought would suit Annalise since she didn’t like her dresses too heavy to limit her movement.
"In a moment. There was something I needed to do with Rafael," Annalise said, starting to get up to make her grand escape. The pants intrigued her, but not enough to make her stay for hours to try on dresses.
Not even her mother had tortured her so much to make her try on dress after dress. How was this fun?
Annalise didn’t make it out of her seat because both her hands were held. To her right, Beatrice was holding her hand and to the left it was Giselle.
"There will be breaks and if we move fast, it won’t be so long. We should get this out of the way so you don’t need to worry about dresses tomorrow. While you are getting some snacks, please get us some rope," Beatrice said to Heidi. They were going to need a lot of it to keep Annalise here.
