Chapter 371: Dresses (1)

"Do you not mind that she wants to read those kinds of books?" Giselle asked, finding it hard to get used to how calm Rafael was for this. He almost seemed interested in Annalise finding the books. Anyone else she knew would have overreacted which was why she read them in secret.

"No," Rafael replied. He would only care about who Annalise was reading the books with and if her plans for why she was reading the books didn’t involve him. He welcomed Annalise’s curiosity. Wanting to try new things.

If Giselle was the reason for Annalise’s interest in these books, Rafael was open to giving Giselle a gift as a thank you.

They were only books. What he needed to be concerned about when it came to Annalise was her having a sword in her hands. He preferred naughty books since they could only hurt anyone else if Annalise were to throw one.

"It doesn’t matter if he minds. I would be like you and read them in silence. Though I would need money to buy a few of them. Would you believe me if I said I wanted money for a dress? Is that a good lie?" Annalise asked.

She doubted Rafael would give her money to buy a sword since he could just have one made for her.

"It would not be a good lie," Rafael answered as he would have found it suspicious she wanted a dress of all things. Especially when he was getting dresses sent here so she didn’t need to leave to go to town to get more.

"Shouldn’t there be an adjustment to what is spent now that she is the lady of the manor? Money set aside for her to do what she wants each week without needing to go to you?" Giselle asked, realising the two didn’t talk about it.

Annalise could fund her secret activities with the money allocated to her. Rafael didn’t have to know anything about what she was using the money for.

Annalise didn’t see the need for money to be put aside for her. "I don’t need a lot of money. There is nothing for me to do-"

"I can tell you what to do to spend your money. I am great at spending money. There is so much for you to do in town like shopping," Giselle said, seeing that as her most exciting hobby.

"I don’t like shopping. Especially if it is for dresses. If we are shopping for weapons, candy, armour, or going to look at future pets, I am there," Annalise answered, interested in getting toys for Herbert. There had to be somewhere with a toy a spider could have.

"Weapons?" Giselle muttered, looking at Rafael. Why would shopping for weapons be exciting? "Are you pretending to like weapons to have something in common with him? Help me to understand why you would pick weapons over dresses."

Annalise was the first to laugh followed shortly by Rafael who laughed simply because Annalise’s laughter was contagious. Heidi smiled because there was a lot about Annalise Giselle needed to learn. Heidi hoped that Giselle would save herself and not ask about any pets so she wouldn’t have to meet the spider which now had the name Herbert.

Giselle looked at the trio, trying to understand what was so funny. "What? I hate to be left in the dark," she said.

"My love for weapons has nothing to do with Rafael. Maybe it is part of why he loves me. I have never asked. Does my love of weapons have anything to do with you loving me?" Annalise asked, turning to Rafael. So far, they had a lot in common thanks to her knowing how to use a sword.

"No," Rafael honestly answered. "I had feelings for you before I knew about how much you loved weapons and my armour. Having it in common with you is fun, but it is your personality that I love."

"Okay, okay. That is enough," Giselle said, disliking the reminder that she was alone. "There are people without partners around you. Try not to make them feel so alone. Right?" she said, looking to Heidi for help.

Heidi didn’t answer since she was just the maid among them. Unlike Giselle, Hiedi liked to see Annalise and Rafael so comfortable around each other since at first she couldn’t believe the pair, but now that she saw them together, it made a lot of sense.

"How rude of me to forget," Annalise teased.

"The butler is coming," Giselle said, watching Edwin enter the room. She hoped it wasn’t time for her to leave since she had nothing else to do for the day. She also wanted to ask Rafael about his uncle and tell him what Delilah was saying.

"Is there trouble, Edwin?" Rafael asked since Edwin would have to be looking for him.

"No. I’ve come to inform you that the dressmaker has arrived with dresses for Annalise to pick and be fitted for along with coats. He has also brought shoes and bags to match. Shall I have them set up here or in another room? Lady Beatrice is coming down to join you," said Edwin.

"Have them set up in a bedroom," Rafael answered. Now that the dresses were here, it was time for him to leave Annalise to have fun with his mother and Giselle. He didn’t want to be around his mother having Annalise try on dresses.

"Please excuse me," Edwin said, leaving to have the room set up for Annalise to try on her dresses. He enjoyed the different feeling the manor had in the last two days. Though it was always full of knights, it felt more lively now.

"I will leave you in the hands of my mother," Rafael said, standing up from his seat.

"Am I allowed to stay a little longer?" Giselle asked, crossing her fingers as she hoped she would watch Annalise try on dresses.

"When you leave is up to Annalise," Rafael said. Giselle wasn’t a pain in the ass right now, so there was no reason to send her away when she was keeping Annalise busy.

"Thank you. I was letting Annalise know that Delilah is still speaking of marrying you. She keeps saying that her father has a way to get the two of you to marry and this morning, my uncle received an invitation to a party believed to be an engagement party for you. Hosted by Travis Norman," Giselle said.

’He is that crazy,’ Rafael thought.

Rafael had been thinking the party was Travis wanted to announce his presence in town as if anyone would care. The Normans weren’t as special as they liked to believe. Of course, Travis was crazy to be planning for it to be an engagement party.

Travis had to be certain he had something Rafael wanted to be able to lure him to the party. Now Rafael had to sit and account for all the people Travis could try taking to get him to attend.

"Thank you for sharing," Rafael said as now he had more planning to do to keep everyone safe. He needed to have a word with his father about the plans to deal with Travis. The only engagement Rafael wanted to hear about himself was the one involving Annalise.

"Now, we should see what dresses have come. This is exciting," Giselle said, clapping her hands.

Annalise didn’t share the same excitement since she had to be in and out of dresses, getting poked by needles, and listening to what she should wear with the dress. She was more interested in talking about the books Giselle spoke of.

"You have not shared where I can get the books from," Annalise said, continuing to sit while everyone else got up.
