The Knight's Mysterious Maid -
Chapter 192: Grandmother (2)
Chapter 192: Grandmother (2)
Annalise knew a fight would happen today if Rafael were not to speak with the captain of the border guard. As Rafael’s maid, Mavis would want her to tell him to talk with the captain for a moment to avoid trouble, but why would she do that when she could witness a fight between the knights and border guards right in front of her?
Violence was always the answer.
Annalise hoped Rafael would walk outside with his cold attitude and brush past the man wanting to speak to him. Then punches would be thrown and she would be at the front to see it. She didn’t need to kill anyone else thanks to the tension between the two sides.
"Why are you smiling at me, Annalise? It leads me to think you are lying about not liking me or you are plotting a mess I will have to help you clean up. As much as I might like you, I could still fire you. It would fix two problems," Rafael said as he put his sword back to his side.
He would need his sword close to deal with the fools outside who were creating a big noise on such a peaceful day.
Annalise picked up his helmet from the ground where Rafael dropped it. Dropping such a perfectly made helmet was something to turn her off when it came to him. "You should treat your helmet better," she said, rubbing it with her arm to make it shine again. "How dare you throw it."
Rafael felt bothered by the sight of her being gentle with his helmet. "What would you treat better? A child or my helmet?"
"The helmet of course. What a stupid question when I have no children. I would tuck this helmet into bed if I could. Do you want it? You treated it so poorly so if you do not care for it, I can take it off your hands. It will be taken care of if you give me it," Annalise said, looking at her reflection in the helmet. She imagined putting it on her head.
"I want my helmet. I expected nothing less from you. There are moments when I question my mind because of the type of woman I have come to like," Rafael revealed.
Annalise held out his helmet to him. "You are not good at making me like you. Oh, it sounds like someone on the outside just got a punch. We should go," Annalise said, turning around to go back outside. Now the day was to her liking with all the fighting.
Similar to a mother rushing to stop their child from heading straight into danger, Rafael moved fast to grab Annalise and pull her back inside the tent.
This was one of the times Annalise wanted to flip him over her since he was ruining her fun. Why couldn’t she see men punching each other, but she could see them using swords?
Annalise looked up at Rafael, unable to hide how upset she was.
"As much as you might enjoy seeing violence and it is evident from the glare you are sending me now that you are upset, you must stay here. It will soon turn into an ugly fight. Do not leave this tent," he ordered her.
Rafael took the helmet from her hands and tugged on the back of the dress to pull her back into the tent. He put on his helmet to protect himself in the middle of having to part whatever was happening outside.
He gave Annalise one last look, warning her not to leave where she stood now. He would gladly have a punishment prepared if he caught her outside the tent.
"I should have left when I had the chance," Annalise muttered, kicking the grass after Rafael left her alone. There was a fight right outside and he was making her miserable by not allowing her to witness it.
If he was afraid that she would get in the middle, he should stop worrying about it. She would love for someone to try attacking her so she had a reason to throw a punch. It had been a good few days since she took part in a fight.
Her knuckles were excited to be introduced to someone’s face.
Annalise placed her hand on her hips and looked around the tent for something to do while she was alone. Her eyes eventually settled on the table where not long ago Rafael was nestled in between her legs. If not for his armour they would have been close enough for her to feel how excited he might have been by the kiss.
She had gotten a good inhale of his scent that she was trying to avoid. If he had been without his armour, she would have gotten the chance to feel more of his body, and she was ashamed to admit that it might not have stopped at a kiss then.
"I am losing my mind here. It is the work of being in this strange place," Annalise concluded.
During their kiss, Rafael made her have that feeling she would normally only get when she was gifted a new sword or found a snake she liked. She had never felt that feeling for a man and she was surrounded by many other men in the manor and at the border.
She felt something similar to when she had sex with Thomas just from kissing Rafael and she knew that was just a simple kiss to test the waters. It had not been exactly how a man who liked her really wanted to kiss her and now her mind was filled with questions about how a kiss would go if they stopped thinking for a moment and just enjoyed it all the way to the end.
"I can never kiss him again. It is dangerous. How did we even end up like that? What is the world trying- Grandmother!" Annalise exclaimed, realising what was happening.
Her grandmother always believed that she had some deep connection with nature. That she understood what nature wanted from us. People would just shake their heads and let her grandmother talk, but Annalise believed her.
She believed every word that came out of her grandmother’s mouth and when she didn’t, she was hit in the head with whatever her grandmother had in her hand at the time.
Her grandmother was one of the few people who had proposed Annalise marry the prince to become queen so the two lands would be united, but her father and many others denied it. Annalise also was against it since being trapped in a palace did not suit her. She was better suited to explore and use swords whenever she liked.
Annalise wouldn’t be surprised if her grandmother was using her special talents to push her and Rafael together. "It’s not going to happen," Annalise said out loud as if her grandmother would be able to hear her.
The one kiss meant nothing. It was just two people having a heated moment to get over this frustration about the other person. As many thoughts about Rafael as she might have, nothing was going to come from them kissing.
Annalise would enjoy having Rafael liking her since it would be a funny tale to tell everyone at home, and as she continued to reject his feelings, he would go back to not having feelings for her, and this problem would go away.
"Nice try," Annalise added.
