The Knight's Mysterious Maid

Chapter 185: Let’s be friends (1)

Annalise got as far away from most of the crowd as she could to watch the knights out on the field.

She did not want to miss Rafael beating Christian, and at the same time, she hoped that being out in the open like this would allow Thomas to spot her easily.

Knowing Thomas well, he might have already seen her when she first arrived with Rafael and was coming to her now.

"All this excitement just for the king to not come," Annalise sighed.

With nothing happening in this town, it only made sense to move on to the next town which would be Lockwood. Thomas was ready to leave, but Annalise wasn’t. She was so close to the Callahan knights, and being Rafael’s maid should have her hearing more from the palace or the border guards.

She was lucky to be present when he spoke to the border guards and heard their awful plans. More guards could come again and she would hear what they had to say. When they travelled to Lockwood, it would not be easy for her and Thomas to get into the palace as easy as it was for her to find work in Rafael’s manor.

"Should I leave or stay a little longer?" Annalise asked herself. Thomas would be of no help since he wanted to go. "I need a sign from grandmother. What should I do?"

"Do like what? What do you need to do? Why do you need to always be near that man?"

"Good morning to you too, Thomas. You know, you are good at stalking. Should we make a business out of that here?" Annalise asked, looking away from the knights to Thomas. "My oh my. You are dressed a bit fancy today."

Thomas lowered his head to hide his heated face. He scratched his head, embarrassed by her words. "I don’t think this is fancy," he replied. It was simple clothing given to him by a woman after he did a small job around her home.

"Oh, Thomas. You are sometimes so cute that I just want to pinch your cheeks, but I can’t today since I know you’ll die of embarrassment. There are too many eyes around, and I might be locked up. I don’t want to spend the day locked away. The king isn’t coming," Annalise revealed.

"Will we leave now?" Thomas asked, hoping she would say yes. "We have no reason to stay here."

"Someone is coming in place of him and I was able to see border guards thanks to being Rafael’s maid-"

"We aren’t getting any important information. Why do you want to stay here when it does nothing for us? For your people?" Thomas inquired. It was pointless to stay in this town. They should keep moving. That was their plan from the start.

"Me leaving home was not only about getting information. I wanted to understand this side better. I only know of this side from what I heard from other people who have never been here. I have not been getting the information I wanted, but if we go to Locklwood, it is not like we can just walk into the palace, or easily get close to a noble," said Annalise.

"Still," Thomas started, trying to think of a good reason why they should leave.

"If you wish to leave ahead of me, you are free to do so. I won’t stop you, but I am going to wait for a little to see what else I can find. I have not forgotten that we are looking to find out what plans they have for the border. Give me a little longer to see what else I can find and then I will think about leaving. Have you heard anything about those two men?"

"I have not heard about it," Thomas answered.

It seemed no one walked the path Annalise had led the two men out to kill them.

"That’s good. We should keep our eyes out for who the palace sent, but we can still enjoy the show of the knights fighting each other. I hope their matches are intense and I get to see someone running away from a fight. That would be funny. I want him to beat Christian so he would be too embarrassed to speak."

Thomas looked out at the field to see who Annalise was referring to and sure enough it was Rafael who she was looking at. Even clad in armour, Thomas could tell that it was Rafael. He was one of the taller men in the knights and his dark armour stood out from everyone else.

"Are we still free to sign up to join this competition?" Thomas asked, having a sudden drive to join the men on the field. He had been waiting for the chance to go up against Rafael.

"Thomas, if you storm down there to fight him only because you think I have feelings for him, I will follow you to the field, and kill you. Do not annoy me today, Thomas. Have we not been over this anger you have toward him? It has nothing to do with our people so do not use that as an excuse. Men," Annalise muttered, rolling her eyes.

There was something that needed to be done about their minds for how they get so heated over nothing. How many times was she to say she did not like Rafael for Thomas to calm down? He was starting to be like Logan.

Annalise kept her eyes on Rafael who walked like a king amongst the men. Wherever he went, the crowd parted for him to walk. He stood out with his armour which was slightly darker than others. She pointed out a few men who were not a part of the knights wearing armour similar to Rafael’s. The design of their helmets almost matched his.

"Rafael!"

Annalise turned her attention from Rafael to the young women sitting down on the grass and fawning over him. They blushed and fanned themselves after getting a good look at him. Annalise bet if they were to be around when he had to take off his armour and got to see his sweaty body, many of them would faint.

If she could paint, she would paint what she would get to see when she returned to the tent with Rafael to help him take off his armour. She had even seen his length and touched his body. It was very much as muscular as she thought it would be.

Annalise could still feel the touch of his skin on her fingers. The memory was hard to get rid of. She should have taken the chance to pull his shirt over his head and continue to-

"Ah!" Annalise accidentally screamed out loud, palming her head in disbelief at her thoughts.

"Annalise," Thomas said, concerned by her suddenly screaming out. She had gathered a bit of attention from it. "Are you alright?"

’He looks good, but to lift his shirt is going too far. Am I a pervert?’ Annalise wondered in horror. She was getting too comfortable because she had seen half naked many times and now her mind was thinking things it shouldn’t.

A quick flash of her laying on top of him on his bed to feel more of his body filled her mind. All because she was still stuck on how she would seduce him if she wanted to and she could not get the feeling of his body out of her head.

Annalise looked down at the field and as if Rafael had some super hearing to point her out among all the other voices, he was looking up at where she stood. She knew he had to be looking at her so Annalise did what she thought was the best thing to do in this situation. She turned around to leave to be out of sight.
