Chapter 159: Self-control (3)

"It seems all we need to do is get women to lure out the border guards and then we slaughter you. Now it’s a good thing men don’t think with their heads. Who wants to go first? Don’t ruin my fun," Annalise smiled, looking at Ethan frozen where he stood. It could not have been the same man who was quick to follow her.

Claude inspected her appearance once more and now that she spoke of being a barbarian, he saw the small similarities in her face. If he dressed her up differently, she would look more of a barbarian than people from this town.

"Well," Ethan said, more intrigued than ever. The night was turning out to be more fun than he thought. He would get to be with a barbarian after all and then he would drag her to the town guards for her to be questioned. "Rafael was hiding a barbarian. Just what I needed to bring him down. It is still my turn, Claude."

"Oh, I can wait," Claude said, stepping back to give Ethan space to do what he wanted. "Remember to watch out. They can be a pain in the ass. You sure you don’t want me to help hold her?"

Annalise rolled her eyes at the unnecessary and boring conversation between the two. They were dragging this out when she had other places to be after this.

Ethan disliked how Annalise played in his face. For him to need Claude to help him with one woman would make him feel like a joke. He was only wary since it wasn’t odd for them to see women from the barbarian’s side fighting alongside men and many times taking out men from the border guards.

Ethan grew even more worried because of her smile which showed how confident she was and turned to ask Claude to join him inside, but before he could ask, Claude taunted him.

"Wait till the men hear you need my help with one woman."

"Tsk," Ethan gritted his teeth. "Fuck this," he muttered going toward Annalise.

Annalise waited for him to get closer to her. She almost felt sorry for them not having a weapon to defend themselves while she had one, but she didn’t care too much about them for the sorry feeling to last.

"I’m going to enjoy having fun with you," Ethan sneered, lunging for the hand with the dagger.

Annalise stepped to the side to get out of his reach and raised her foot as much as her dress would allow her to kick him in his side and send him away from her. "I really hate dresses," she muttered. This was her sign to buy pants for when she needed to do something like this.

"You bitch-"

"Can’t you try to not use such insulting words?" Annalise asked, preparing for another attack from Ethan now that he balanced himself. She kept her eyes on Claude who was enjoying the fight. If she had time she would have torn the dress to make this much easier for herself.

"You don’t see me calling you a fool or idiot. Out loud to your face at least. I’m respectful to not hurt your feelings," Annalise said.

"Shut up," Ethan muttered, circling around her once more. This time, he would be careful and not underestimate her. He glanced at Claude, silently asking for help.

"I’m coming," said Claude.

Annalise looked to the left at Claude to join the game and smiled when Ethan used this chance to finally run at her again. Annalise dodged his fists coming to her face and switched the dagger from her right to her left hand right before Ethan grabbed her right hand.

She plunged the dagger deep into his neck to get him out of the way so she could move onto Claude. As fun as it was to play cat and mouse, she had to get out of there before someone might join them in this area. She did not want to take any chances.

"Help me!" Ethan called to Claude who was still standing back in disbelief when he needed help getting the knife out of his neck. He felt blood oozing out of the wound because of him yelling and there was a sensation like he was choking.

Annalise held onto Ethan so that he would not run away with her dagger. She tugged on the dagger to get it out of his neck as Claude came running toward her. She ignored Ethan’s grip on her as he tried to thrash her around. What it did only ended badly for him since she had not let go of the dagger and made a bigger wound as she moved it around,

Annalise turned to Ethan, who was now light on his feet as he succumbed to the pain. She used him as a shield to block Claude from grabbing her.

"Finally," Annalise sighed in relief when she was able to pull out her dagger. She quite liked this dagger and she would hate to lose it to be forever stuck in the idiot holding his neck.

Annalise pushed Ethan back into Claude’s arms as she stood back.

Claude caught Ethan and looked at the wound she created. Ethan’s hands shook as he covered his neck. His body felt cold fast and he had a redness to his eyes. "What the fuck did you do to him?" He asked, dropping Ethan so he could deal with Annalise. He had to do this quickly to get Ethan to a doctor.

Annalise kept her secret to herself. She would be foolish to speak about what she had done now in the middle of their fight to allow him to change how he attacked her. "You gotta be quick or he will bleed out before you take him to a doctor. I saw it in your eyes how excited you were to have me out here so come on. I’m sure you will make a better fighter than your friend."

Claude gritted his teeth. He looked down at Ethan on the ground. It would be too late for him to keep Ethan alive if he took him to a doctor now. "I’ve seen this before. You wiped poison on your blade," he realised.

Annalise admired her blade stained with Ethan’s blood and though it wasn’t visible, there was a special poison she had with her. She was stuck in Rafael’s manor with hundreds of knights that outnumbered her. If she had to fight her way out of there, she needed something to help slow down how many were attacking her.

"Guilty. We’re poison our enemies kind of people," she admitted, shrugging her shoulders.

Claude didn’t want to take the risk of fighting her when he had no weapon and she had poison on her blade. They followed her outside like two fools with no weapons on them since they were so focused on having a good time with her. Everything he needed to help him win this fight was back in the room he bought for the night.

Claude turned on the small heel of his shoe to make a run away from Annalise. He would get justice for Ethan by getting the town guards to help him capture this woman and question Rafael for hiding her.

The moment Claude started to turn his back on her, Annalise gripped the dagger and used all her strength to throw it, aiming for the back of his head.
