Chapter 68: Two Can Play This Game

I still pondered over on what Heather said on what she meant by making Reagan see me and about each of us putting our pride down. Honestly, I think I was done with Reagan. I was done trying to prove myself to him and his family. I might need his help but he would need to arrange to see me according to the conditions I establish. Not because Heather told me to swallow my pride, not because I was carrying his child, and certainly not because he suddenly decided I was worth his attention.

With that said, I grabbed my tiara and placed it on my head, a sign of authority. I wasn’t one to use my tiara or any relation to my father being the king but since it had already come to a moment like this, I think it was time to remind them who they were messing it.

My name is Dahlia Westward Hawthorne, the princess of Iravia and daughter of King Sigurd the most ruthless king ever. I may not agree with my father’s principles and I never will, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a drop of ruthlessness in me too. If this was what they needed me to be, then so be it!

Drawing in a breath, I opened the door to my room and stepped outside only to meet Heather who took one look at me and then a slow smile crept up her face. "Okay when I said make him look at you, I didn’t mean make him drool and not let make sense of what he is going to be saying at the assembly."

Rolling my eyes, I brushed past Heather, "Shut up." I informed her but there was a smile on my face as I said so.

"Oh Sire isn’t going to know what hit him." Heather continued despite the fact I had just told her I didn’t want to hear it which was a lie.

I wanted to and I couldn’t help the smirk that formed on my face as we stepped out of the house. I had looked myself in the mirror and know that I looked good. I was putting on a blue light dress that blended perfectly with my pale skin and as I walked the fabric moved like water across my form. The tiara sat on my head which was a constant reminder of everything I am. I was more than just Reagan’s wife, I was more than just a woman scorned and today, I will use this moment to show every one exactly just that.

I walked to the house and pushed open the doors. I didn’t miss the way the servants whispered as we walked to the grand hall where the assembly was being held. Giving my one lasts mile and shooting me a wink, Heather pushed the door open.

Drawing in a deep breath, I stepped forward my dress flowing around me as I entered the grand hall. A series of whispered rumors evolved into amplified cackling noise which spread across the room like a wave. Each person from the nobility and their advisors directed their unexpected stare toward me as I walked through the hall.

I looked round the hall and my gaze found Reagan who was seated on his seat. His gaze slowly appraised me and I watched as it rested slowly on the tiara on my head. His jaw tightened but he didn’t say anything. My gaze went round the room and I noticed Celeste was also present which threw me off a little bit I’m not going to lie.

But since she was now an official concubine, she now has the right to join in one meetings!

Keeping my expression calm, I refused to let my irritation show as I stared at Celeste who sat few feets from Reagan, her dignified chin elevated. A soft pink gown flattered her figure enough while hanging onto her curves as she sported loose flowing waves of golden hair down her back. As a royal concubine her appearance perfectly embodied elegance combined with poise while causing the most annoying level of awareness.

My fingers curled into a fist but I shoved down whatever rage I was feeling, it’s not like I hadn’t expected it.

I approached the central seating area, Reagan’s chair stood elevated as if a throne within the central seating space. His gaze remained fixed on me without any change in his stare as he refused to speak. My gaze held directly in front of me until his eyes met mine without breaking the connection.

Nothing, no emotion, no acknowledgement whatsoever.

Fine. Two could play this game.

I took my seat right next to him, then crossing my legs I smiled at them. "You may proceed."

A man cleared his throat before he spoke again, "Well, as we stated earlier the rebellions are starting to get bolder and this time around we believe they do have a leader which makes them more organized than ever."

Reagan hummed softly, "And do we know this leader?"

"No." Lord Cromwell replied his brows furrowed in thoughts, "What we do know is that whoever this leader is seemed to be getting more popular among the town people and they are beginning to see him as some sort of savior."

A quiet tension descended in the room as I tried to keep my mouth shut. I do not like where this is going at all! I thought to myself as I struggled to remain calm.

"Bet the king doesn’t like that much." I heard Miguel snort in response.

My gaze cut to him and when he caught me looking he just shrugged at me. Resisting the urge to roll my eyes, I stared back at Lord Cromwell. "Well, what do we know about this so called savior?"

"Like I said nothing." The man answered.

Lord Cromwell stepped forward, "But we do have an alias." He said looking at me, "The people call him the black knight!"
