THE Knight's Hidden Princess -
Chapter 57: Unhappy Princess
Chapter 57: Unhappy Princess
"Killian!"
"Hello fair lady." Killian greeted leaning against the door frame, his lips pulling into a smile as he stared down at me. He was dressed impeccably as usual, his tunic pressed to perfection as always and his brown hair was styled neatly atop his head, not a single hair out of place.
I frowned as I took in his appearance, "But how?" I asked him still perplexed by the fact that he had been the one to save me.
Killian cast Bjorn a side way glance and as if getting the hint Bjorn cleared his throat and stood up. Turning to look at me, he offered me a small smile, "I guess I will leave you two alone to talk." He said and I nodded my head at him.
Bjorn looked like he was about to say something else but it seems he decided against it, so instead he reached for my good arm and patted it softly. After that, he turned to look at Amelia and together they left the room leaving me alone with Killian who strolled into my room, almost as if he owned it, then he went to settle himself on a chair facing me.
"I take it you are surprised to see me." Killian said as he crossed his legs while leaning back in his seat with an arrogance he could muster.
I snorted in response, "Well that is one way to put it." I told him before I tilted my head at him, "How did you find me?"
Killian heaved out a sigh before he responded, "I decided I had overstayed my welcome at Hawthorne’s manor, so after you left. I decided to leave to, so imagine my surprise when I found your carriage stuck in the middle of the road, with no one in sight. No guards, no servants, no one!" Killian said, his gaze darkening as he recalled the memory, "My men found a camp site somewhere and the logo of one of those bastards rebel and I immediately knew something had happened to you, so we looked for you all over. I found pieces of your clothing somewhere in the woods and over the edge of the cliff. My men and I searched the whole forest before we found you somewhere around dawn. Laying lifeless in the mud and for a minute I feared for the worst."
Oh! Was all I could think of as I stared at Killian who still looked furious and that was the first time I would be seeing such an emotion from him!
"You were bruised and battered, I didn’t even think you would still be breathing. I really feared the worst had truly happened. It’s a pity I couldn’t find the men who did these to you, they fled like cowards." Killian snarled out, "But don’t worry, once my men find them, I will ensure they die like one too." Killian said, a dark promise to his tone.
I shook my head at him, "Oh, I honestly don’t think that will be necessary. They are just terrified people who will do anything to survive." I told him.
Killian didn’t look like he was having it as his expression hardened even further. "They put their hands on you, for that alone they will suffer!"
I decided to keep my mouth shut not saying anything before it looks like I was trying to defend the people who attacked me. Deciding to stir the conversation into somewhere that was less serious, I stared up at Killian. "Anyway, I guess I owe you a debt for saving my life."
"Oh please," Killian waved me off, "None of that nonsense, I am just sorry you had to go through that." Killian’s expression was one of pity as he stared at me.
I couldn’t help but tense at the look on his face. The expression caused me more distress than any other thing. That moment made me feel powerless and unimportant yet I refused to accept the treatment of a feeble young woman.
Blinking, I looked away from Killian, "You shouldn’t go soft on me Killian, I might start thinking you care for me more than all the ladies waiting on you back home."
"Would that be such a bad thing?" Killian spoke so softly I almost missed it.
"I’m sorry, what was that?"
Killian smiled softly at me as he shook his head. "Nothing." He mumbled but I didn’t seem convinced and besides he had this expression on his face.
Killian was always the one who was always jovial, playful, teasing, never serious. But as I stared at him now, I couldn’t help but notice how different this expression he wore was, it was way too serious for me and Killian was never serious.
Before I could ask him about it, Killian raked a hand through his hair, ruffling it slightly. "So you are pregnant huh?"
I heaved out a sigh of my won. "Yeah, it would appear so." I said then released a dry laughter as I stared down at my abdomen.
"You do not seem too happy about it."
I shook my head as I stared at Killian who was watching me with a measured gaze, all traces of playfulness gone from his face as he stared at me waiting for an answer.
"It’s not that I’m unhappy about it." I answered choosing my words carefully, "It’s just that, I...I...it’s just something that I wasn’t expecting and with everything that has been going on..."
"So something did happen." Killian cut me off, "Between you and Reagan?" He asked me.
I looked up only to find him staring at me with a pointed look. Shaking my head, I looked away from him. "I do not want to talk about it right now."
"Alright and we won’t." Killian agreed, "But news of what happened to you has reached him and he is probably on his way as we speak. I’m also going to assume his is unaware about the news of your pregnancy?"
"No, he isn’t." I admitted softly.
Killian gave me a nod, "Alright. I guess I will leave you to rest now and also figure out what it is you are going to say to Reagan when he comes." With that said, Killian left and the room descended into a heavy silence.
My thoughts swirled into a storm with the news of Reagan arriving. The kidnapping, the pregnancy and also the secret that constantly loomed over us. I honestly wished there was a way that I could avoid all of this, but I knew I had to face him. He deserved to know.
