THE Knight's Hidden Princess
Chapter 55: Take A Chance

Chapter 55: Take A Chance

The man moved backwards on my impact but I didn’t allow him to recover from his shock. I whirled around and grabbed a log by the fire place and swung it at them. Then without waiting, I hiked my gown up and took off in the opposite direction. I dashed into the woods, branches snapped beneath my feet as I ran. The cold evening air seeped into my skin through my clothing but I ignored it and ran as fast as I could. I could hear my heart pounding in my chest, while fear and adrenaline waged a battle inside of me.

Shouts erupted behind me. They had recovered. They were coming!

I made a sudden right turn, hoping to lose them in thick vegetation. My gown snagged on a low branch, nearly yanking me backwards and almost causing me to lose my footing but I yanked it free without stopping. Behind me I could hear their hurried footsteps, becoming more fast and determined. They were too close and I couldn’t outrun them forever.

A root jutted out in my path. I avoided the obstacle just in time but I stumbled slightly, managing to keep my footing. Keep running. Don’t stop. Don’t think.

"GET HER!" I heard them yelling from behind me, they were way too close now!

I pushed myself to continue running but suddenly I was grabbed from behind. I wasted no time in throwing my head backwards. The sound of a bone breaking filled my ears followed by a grunt but I spun around and throw another punch at the man’s face, sending hi staggering backwards.

Before I could figure out my next course of action, a man grabbed me by shoulder, the place where I had been hit from Reagan’s arrow. I swallowed back the wince that was lodged in my throat as the man yanked me so I was facing him. Then before I could comprehend what was going on, he threw a fist at on my face.

Pain exploded in my head as I opened my eyes only to see another fist coming but this time around I was prepared this time around. I ducked, his blow managing to only slide through my temple without hitting me straight one. Brushing away the throbbing pain I felt in my arm, I grabbed the man’s hand and using my momentum to twist my body, I slammed my knee into the man’s stomach. He grunted in response, while stumbling backwards.

I didn’t stop there, I advanced towards him, raising my fist to go to ambush me but another man wrapped his arms around my torso. I stomped hard on his feet causing him to howl in pain and then I threw an elbow at his face.

The man let go of me and they all assembled, all of them gazing at me with wonder. I bet they didn’t think grabbing a princess would be this difficult, but I wasn’t about to make it easy of them.

Breathing heavily, I glared at the men, ignoring the burning pain in my shoulders as I stared at them. "Here’s the thing, let me go and I promise to spare your life."

A laugh erupted from the men who approached me, his eyes displayed an almost admiring expression. "Oh yeah, is that so?" He breathed out, "You can fight well, I will admit but how long do you think you can hide that pain in your shoulder."

He knows! I thought to myself as attempted to control my expression but my body betrayed my emotions a little, a twitch in my stance which caused the man to smirk as he and his men began to approach me.

"Besides, look around you princess," The man said glancing around, imploring me to do the same.

A roaring sound filled my ears, the sound of something rushing down below.

Water! A quick glance to the side showed me a view that made my stomach plunge. Right behind me was a huge cliff and past the cliff edge a hungry river consumed itself in turbulent water. I turned to look back at the men who now looked more relaxed now, as if they knew exactly that I wasn’t going to be going anywhere.

Trapped that was what I was!

I whirled around to see the men had gotten even closer to me, fuck!

"Why don’t you just be a good princess and come with us?" A man drawled out in a tone that made my skin crawl.

I fixed him with a glare, I knew what his intentions which made me take a step backwards towards the edge of the cliff.

The men halted in their movements, their body stiffening as they looked at me.

"What do you think you are doing?" A man asked me, "You wouldn’t survive it princess, so come with us!"

I didn’t bother to answer him as I moved again towards the edge, the sound of the river slamming against rocks deafening in my ears. This was a stupid thing to do but I didn’t let my fear show.

"Come now, your highness, don’t be stupid. You wouldn’t survive a fall like that."

"And something tells me if I were to go with you, I wouldn’t survive with you either." I countered. "You all see me as revenge against my father."

A man shrugged at me in response, "Oh well, at least we can make your death more pleasurably than falling over a cliff."

Right! The wind whipped through my hair as I stood at the edge of the cliff while glaring at the men with eyes full of defiance. "I guess, I will take a chance with this then!" I said and without another thought, I ran a little bit before I jumped off the cliff.

Behind me, I could hear the roaring protest of the men as I fell but the sound soon became muffled as I plummet into the water with such force that it stole the breath from my lungs. The cold temperature of the river immediately enveloped me greatly, sucking all the heat from my body.

I instinctively tried to move, kicking and trying to swim against the heavy current that threatened to claim me and through it all, I could feel myself trying to lose oxygen but I fought against it.

The only problem right now was that I didn’t know how long I could hang on for.
