Chapter 177: She’s Alive
REAGAN POV
Nikolai stared at me then back at the door before he release a scoff. I could tell that he doesn’t believe what I was saying because he had a look of disbelieve on his face. He shook his head before he stared back at me. "So hold on, you want me to believe that the she doesn’t know that her father has been giving her ember dust?"
"I do believe it." I said and Nikolai scoffed again, "You weren’t there Nikolai, there was this look in her eyes. She looked like she was being controlled, didn’t listen to anyone else but her father, there was this crazed look in her eyes."
"She looked pretty crazy to me alright, but I am still not buying her ignorance." Nikolai said.
I shook my head at Nikolai, "No man, I’m telling you there is something different about her. I don’t think she honestly knows about the drug. You saw the confusion in her eyes when you mentioned the drugs and she still didn’t even get when you called it by its second name?"
Nikolai sighed as he rubbed his hand in frustration. He began pacing the room before he turned to look at me. "We still don’t know if it’s the drugs that caused that."
"Actually there’s a way we can find out." Killian said as he turned around to look at me, "We can interrogate Skornir, I’m sure he has a lot to say."
"Yeah he didn’t feel quite talkative the last time." Nikolai said as he went to go and take a seat.
Killian nodded his head, "I know, guess I will just have to convince him about that again."
I stared at Killian wanting to ask if he was going to be okay with it but then I decided that I was going to be right next to with him during the interrogation. "Okay nobody says anything to her until we know what we are dealing with." I said as I approached the door.
"And what do we tell her now?" Nikolai asked me.
"That we will look into it and we don’t have the answers now." Which wasn’t a lie.
We didn’t have the answers and it would just be too soon for us to start jumping into conclusions. She may have tried to put on a brave face and threatened everyone but she was scared. i do not want to make her more scared than she already was.
I opened the door and was met with her already standing with her fist raised. "I said I was going to call you."
Evie brushed past me as she walked inside my study not bothering to wait for an invitation. ’"I got bored, I need my answers now."
"Well you are going to have to wait a little longer your royal highness." Killian said with more bite than necessary.
Evie’s gaze narrowed, her lips pressing into a thin line. She opened her mouth then shut them back as if deciding she wasn’t going to say anything. I could see the battle she was fighting within her, she was scared and trying very hard not to show it. I do not like her and I still don’t trust her so I decided to help her because that was what Dahlia would have wanted me to do.
"We are going to figure it out but right now we do not know what it is."
Evie stared at me with those eyes of hers swimming with suspicion like she doesn’t believe a word I was saying. She heaved out a sigh and turned away from me before she turned back to look at me. "And what is ember dust?"
"Something you shouldn’t worry yourself about." I said and Evie scoffed at me.
"Alright." She says with a smile, "You help me figure out what this is, I’ll tell you what you truly want to know."
Nikolai snorted in response, "And how on earth do you know what we ’truly’ want?" He asked emphasizing on the word truly.
Evie smirked as she reached for the door. "You tell me what is happening to me and I will tell you where she is."
The room immediately got silent after that and my heart skipped a beat. I stared at Evie not sure I heard a right and I was still trying to figure out if she was joking when she suddenly spoke again.
"You all didn’t really think she was dead did you?" Evie asked with a smirk and before she disappeared out the door.
No, Dahlia! I thought as I stepped out the door but Evie was already climbing out a window. She gave me one last smirk before she leapt out. I followed after her but it was already too late. She had already landed on the ground and she was heading straight towards the gate.
I considered going after her but I decided against it, even though every part of my body screamed for me to go after her and demand she tell me just exactly where she was. But I needed to be rational, the last thing I wanted was to draw attention to myself and if Evie was willing to keep this from her father then I have a whole lot of reason to believe that Sigurd was behind the whole thing.
Heaving out a sigh, I walked back to my study and slammed the door shut. Nikolai and Killian both stared at me with identical expressions on their faces. I knew what they were thinking because I was thinking it too. I felt a wave of emotions immediately hit me. Happiness, excitement, relief and hope.
"So Dahlia is alive?" Killian asked his voice still filled with uncertainty.
I smiled as I shook my head, "I never doubted it for a second. She wouldn’t leave me alone and also our son."
"Oh gods so Dahlia is truly alive?" Nikolai said more to himself than to me, "We need to find her!" He suddenly said.
I nodded my head at him, "And we will find her but first we need answers and I know exactly where to get them?"
"But what about Dahlia? She could barely be holding on as it is, we need to go and save her! We need to save her right now."
Killian reached for Nikolai, "Calm down Nikolai. We will find her but we do not even know where she is and we need Evie for that. We can’t run in blind like this."
"But what if she is in danger? What if she can’t hold on any longer."
I shook my head at him, "No, we cannot afford to think this way. Dahlia is strong, one of the strongest person I know. She will just have to hold on for us, in the meantime let’s figure out a way to find out what the fuck is going on with Evie!"
A look of determination settled on Nikolai’s face as he headed straight for the door. "I will be starting the interrogation first!" He said as he walked out the door heading towards the dungeon.
Killian and I followed after him not bothering to waste any time. The sooner we figure this out the closer I get to Dahlia.
But for now, I am just happy that she is alive. She made it this far, I just hope that she was doing okay.
