THE Knight's Hidden Princess
Chapter 176: Little Help

Chapter 176: Little Help

REAGAN POV

I stared at Evie, Dahlia’s sister as she sat down in my study, looking like she owned the place. She sat still with a cup of tea in her hand which she sipped with the elegance of a princess even though she looked anything but. She was dressed in all leather with long laced up boots and she wore couple of holsters with strapped on garters which held weapons of some sort.

It took all I had in me not to grab her and slam her down on the table for what she had her father did to Dahlia but I held myself back because Killian claimed she had an important information for us all. But I also held myself back because of Dahlia, it doesn’t matter what she did. She was still Dahlia sister, a kid no less.

"Okay, you have ten seconds to tell me why you are here or I am going to throw you out!" I demanded, breaking the silence.

Evie finally raised her eyes to look at me, a slow smile appeared on her face as she carefully set the cup down on the table. "Well this is not the welcome I expected from my brother in law."

"Considering the last time you were here, you tried to kill Celeste and you framed my wife."

"I was just following orders, you are familiar with that routine very well so you should know how it is." Evie shot me a wink and behind me Killian snorted.

We all turned to look at him with raised brows. Killian cleared his throat as he straightened in while trying not to look as guilty as he was. I turned back to look at Evie who was watching the whole thing with amusement in her gaze. There was just something about her that felt different than the last time we saw her and it took me a minute to realize that it was because her eyes were clear. They looked like they contained more emotions than the last time I saw her where she had nothing on but a hollow look and a murderous look in her eyes.

Was the drug out of her system? I asked as my gaze narrowed in on her.

Evie caught me looking at her and she arched a brow up at me on response. "Something the matter brother in law."

"I don’t know, I was wondering you would tell me since you showed up here unannounced." I said before I leaned forward to stare at her, "Why are you really here Evie? What do you want and why choose all these years to show up to my house?"

"Because I missed my nephew? I mean Dahlia and I may not be close but she did give birth to my nephew so I’m just here for a bonding time." She responded with a shrug and I suddenly felt a fierce wave of protectiveness come through me.

I slammed my hands on the table before I could think of what I was doing. Evie didn’t even seemed startled as she eyed me up and down. If it were any other day, I would have admired her bravery but right now she was just wasting my time and I do not have time on her silly games.

"Listen you little shit_"

As soon as I said the words, Evie grabbed the tea cup and placed it on the table then she grabbed the saucer and threw it at me which I ducked but she flew on the table and placed a foot on my chest while removing a dagger and placing it right directly on my chin.

She was very fast, no one had seen her coming and she was strong too. She might be small but the way she applied the pressure to my chest while my chair leaned against the wall. Killian and Nikolai made a move to approach but I raised my hand to stop them.

Evie’s eyes darted back and forth at the two men before she stared down at me. "Okay let’s get one thing straight brother in law_" She snarled and there was no mistaking the venom in her tone, "I may not dress much but I am still a princess and I will suggest you watch how you speak to me or I will have you beheaded for your word, understood?"

My gaze hardened as I stared at Evie but a curt nod of my head seemed to satisfy her. With a smile on her face, she removed her feet and walked back to her seat. Landing gracefully on her feet before she lowered herself while reaching for her tea.

"Now that I’m done educating you on how to act like a proper gentleman, how about we get on with business?" Evie asked me with a smile on her face.

I didn’t smile back. "What do you want?"

"Easy, I need your help." Evie responded.

Nikolai snorted in response, "You need our help? What, daddy dearest can’t help his beloved princess?"

Something like anger flashed in Evie’s eyes but she masked it. Swallowing she set down the tea cup on the table, then she slowly took of her gloves. We all watched her with curiosity as she yanked her sleeves up revealing her wrist.

"Yeah it’s going to take a lot more than showing your wrist to seduce us." Nikolai responded.

"But nice try though, now if that was your aim, you can get the fuck out little girl!" Killian said and Evie made a face.

"What are you insane?" Evie asked before she stared at me, "I would never do that, like ever!" She said while eyeing me with disgust and I arched a brow up at her but she just thrust her hand out at me. "Will you just take a look at it, please?"

There was something vulnerable about the way she said it even though she tried so much to hide it. Heaving out a sigh, I grabbed her wrist and dragged it towards me so I could look at it in the light. Yellowish and green lines were on her wrist where I veins were. They were a little bit faint and not noticeable but thanks to the lighting, I could see them.

"And what exactly am I supposed to be looking at?" I asked as I stared up at her face.

Evie stared back at me in return, "I don’t know I was hoping that you would tell me?"

"Do I look like a healer to you?"

"Going to a healer means letting my father know and I do not want him to know."

So she is keeping her visit here a secret from her father? Interesting! I thought as I cocked my head at her, "And what exactly is stopping me from going to your father?"

"You wouldn’t." Evie responded.

Nikolai snorted in response. "You do not exactly have any ally here princess. The only reason you get to sit in this room with us is out of courtesy to your sister, so do not be so sure." He said his tone void of any warmth.

"Just take a look at it and tell me what it means." Evie said her tone turning pleading now.

I stared down at her wrist again, cocking my head to the side as I stared at the line. It was strange, very strange, like an illness. "Well except that’s the thing I do not know what I am looking at, although maybe you are coming down with something."

"Yeah well that’s the thing, I feel as healthy as a horse."

"Save for the creepy marks on your arm." Nikolai retorted and we all turned to look at him.

"Oh, how the ladies must love you." Evie cooed at him.

Nikolai grinned while shooting "Only when there’s no talking involved."

"Alright, knock it off you two." I cut them off before they could leap at each other’s throat. "Let’s just figure out what the hell this thing is." If we can! I thought as I stared at the lines.

We are probably going to need a healer for this. I do not know what the hell I’m supposed to be looking at here. It could be an infection based on the way the veins looked on her skin but she claimed that she was as healthy as a horse but her skin looks really unhealthy to me.

"What if it’s not an infection but a side effect?" Killian suddenly spoke up.

I frowned at him in confusion, "A side effects of what?"

"Of the drug." Killian whispered and I turned to stare back at her arm.

Evie frowned in confusion as she stared at our faces. "I’m sorry but what are you talking about?"

"The drug, ember dust!" I whispered as I stared down at her wrist, "Fuck it all makes sense now."

Evie yanked her wrist away from my hand. "Okay once again, what the fuck are you all talking about?"

"We are talking about the drug you use." Nikolai responded, "You know ember dust? Eye of the tiger?"

Evie’s eyes narrowed as she stared at Nikolai. "You know I should have your tongue ripped out for assuming I use drugs, I’ m not a fucking barbarian!"

"But you sure fight like one when you were busy pummeling your sister to her death!"

"Why you...."

"Okay, enough!" I said slamming the door on the table, "Can we have the room for a minute? You can hang in the room opposite the study, no one will bother to look there."

Evie’s jaw clenched in anger as she glared at Nikolai and for a minute I was worried that she was going to jump on the table and attack Nikolai but all she did was grab her gloves and stomp outside. Immediately the door slammed shut, I turned to looked at Nikolai.

"She doesn’t know guys." I whispered, "She doesn’t know that Sigurd is pumping her full of drugs!"
