THE Knight's Hidden Princess -
Chapter 172: The Wheel Of Doom
Chapter 172: The Wheel Of Doom
A grunt escaped me as I was shoved back into my cellar. The talk with my father didn’t go well as planned which was no surprise there. I had threatened him again and let’s just say he didn’t exactly like that. My mouth throbbed from where he had leapt from the table and threw a punch at my face before he ordered the men to throw me back to the pit hole they had found me from.
Sighing, I crawled back into a sitting position as I leaned my head against the wall as I stared into the darkness. I have to get out of here, now that I know it was my father who was behind this I have to get out of here. Now, the second thing is if I can figure out where here is exactly.
I was too tired I couldn’t get a good a look at it but I still know one thing. Wherever this place was, it wasn’t Iravia and something tells me that wherever it was I was going to be finding it out soon enough.
All I have to do was just find a way to get through the night! Heaving out a sigh, I crawled towards my spot in a corner and fell asleep or at least tried to.
My hands trembled like they did every night before I fell asleep.
I missed him, I missed my son. I didn’t even get to hold him that much, I held him just one time and he was taken from me.
No, not taken, you left him!
But you had to sacrifice yourself to keep him and your friends safe. He is alive because of you, you sacrificed yourself for him, that’s what mothers do!
Except you are no mother! You brought him into this life, sure but you abandoned him just as fast, so you are no mother.
I had to do it, it was the only way.
You could have saved yourself if you hadn’t been so weak!
I wasn’t weak it had to be done, I had to keep him safe.
Yeah, but at what cost? He is going to forget about you soon enough!
No, no, that won’t happen, I am going to get out of here!
Oh be for fucking real, there is no way you are getting out of here! Your father is going to get rid of you soon enough and you know it!
No, no, that isn’t true! I am going to get out of here, I am going to!
Words bounced back and forth in my head as I tried to sleep but the negative side was winning. There was no way I could get out of here, not without any help!
The thought was so depressing that my eyes immediately got misty with tears and for the very first time in weeks, I shed tears once again!

The door to my cell opened and I had to squint at the sudden brightness that infiltrated the darkness. I slowly raised myself up and I used my hand to shield myself from the brightness just as I saw four figures start to approach me. Without saying another word, one of them dumped a boot in front of me. It was a grey dirty worn out boot that looked like it had been chewed on repeatedly by a pack of wolves.
I stared at the boot then back at the men with the weird masks and I couldn’t resist asking. "Mind telling me what’s with the masks on your faces?"
Out of all the questions, I just had to ask because it was part of those questions that had been bothering me for weeks now. Why do they wear such horrifying masks on their face? Was it because they were horrible to look at or wanted people to see that they were a monster too on the outside? It definitely has to do with that!
Of course I got no answer in return which wasn’t surprising. I decided to move on to the next question I had for them, I stared down at the boots. "Well can I ask which cave you pulled those boots from? Because while I appreciate the effort to protect me from the cold gentlemen, I can assure you that I won’t be caught dead in that!"
I had barely gotten the words before a sharp knife was pointed at my face. The man pointing the knife didn’t say anything, instead he pointed it towards the boots then back up at me which meant that he wanted me to wear the boot.
Sighing, I grabbed the boots and shoved them in my legs. For such worn boots they were actually very comfortable. I glared at the men, "Alright, now that I’ve worn the boots where are we going? I assume it’s a road trip."
They didn’t respond but roughly yanked me to my feet, they obviously had an issue with being gentlemen or they just didn’t want to do that to me. They dragged me out but they didn’t need to, I was going to follow them willingly anything to get out of the darkness.
The moment I stepped outside, I took a very brief moment to welcome the very cold atmosphere. It was cold and the snow was falling but I would take this than the darkness, at least it was bright here and that was more than enough. The guards didn’t allow me to bask too long in it, they shoved me forward, silently telling me to move.
"Okay, okay, no need to rush." I grumbled under my breath as I walked forward.
Two were placed in front of me leading the way and the others were walking behind me, just in case I would try and do something that would cost them their job. I was not going to lie, the thought did cross my mind, but only for a fleeting moment because I knew they were going to catch me either way and besides, I still need to study wherever this is and since I was already outside, now was already a good time as ever.
I looked around but there wasn’t much to look at, nothing to see but cold lifeless buildings. This was a fortress, it’s building were forged with solid iron rising so high they seemed to impale the clouds, although that may just have been because I was staring from the ground. Slits in the walls were all that windowed the buildings but they seemed more like the barred openings of prison.
Seriously though, what the hell is this place?
I didn’t have to ponder long because I got my answer. The men stopped in front of a huge gate which they pushed open and what I saw made something hard and cold settle in my stomach. Hundreds of people, no, not hundreds, thousands, men, women and children, all of them were buys carrying bricks and some of them were busy stirring a huge giant wheel that I guess makes the cement. Others were busy digging something inside a cave, bringing out gold yellow stones which they places in baskets.
Soldiers stood behind them with whips in their hands, lashing at anyone who looked too tired or didn’t move fast enough.
Okay, what the hell is this place? I thought to myself but before I could ponder too much on the question, I felt a sharp pain in my back. I stumbled forward, missing my step as I fell to the snow. Furious, I turned to look around only to see a man staring down at me with a crazed look in his eyes.
"GET TO WORK!" He yelled at me.
Groaning, I pushed myself up and immediately went to join the people who were spinning the huge wheel. My first thought was that this thing was heavy, there were about a hundred of us who were trying to push the wheel but we might as well have been pushing a huge wall. It was really heavy and it doesn’t matter how much of my strengths that I pushed into it, the fact remains that it was still heavy.
I guess the soldiers thought that whipping us was good motivation, because they continued to lash out at us again and some of the people ran as fast as they could trying to get away before the whip that could hit them. Some of them shoved others out of the way in an attempt to get away from the merciless whip and those who were slow were the unfortunate ones, people like me.
I fell down to my knees when the whip hit me for the fifth time and the soldier whipping stepped forward and yanked me back up to my feet.
"Stop acting like a fucking bitch and get to work!" He yelled and I glared at him but all he did was glare at me, "What? You think this isn’t fair, well congratulations, this is your life now princess!" He said releasing a maniacal laughter before he shoved me forward again, back to the wheel of doom!
