THE Knight's Hidden Princess
Chapter 163: The More The Merrier

Chapter 163: The More The Merrier

The sound of screaming and war cries filled my ears but it sounded muffled even to my own ears, it sounded like I was under the water, suffocating from all the craziness that surrounds me. My eyes slowly blinked open and yet my vision remained blurry as my body weight felt strangely heavy.

The tangy smell of blood, sweat and smoke filled my nostrils. It clung to my skin like oil. My heartbeat drowned out every other battle noise including metal weapons collisions and wounded soldiers screaming and yet through it all, I could hear the sound of people yelling for my name.

Slowly my vision came into focus and I sat up slowly, the blood roaring in my head as I turned around. Though still blurry it didn’t take me that much to figure out that we were losing. Bodies scattered around, most were all women with white clothing stained with crimson. Some were faces I recognized, some I saw in just passing moments or during one of our sessions. Their empty glassy eyes stared at me as they laid in awkward angles that made me throw up a little bit.

"Dahlia, help us!"

The muffled voices of the women calling out to me pierced through the fog of confusion that had surrounded me. I rose up from the ground while my hands shook uncontrollably. The pain in my stomach was still there but it was a dull throb which reminded me that time was running out.

Using the back of my hand, I wiped my mouth until I tasted a little bit of bile mixed with the metallic taste of blood. All around me the fight had changed, the hallway which had once held prayers and meditations reeked of blood. Women laid all over the sacred floor, unmoving, some twitched and some, I couldn’t even stomach some of the horrible sight.

Among the women I saw Freda, a beautiful olive skinned girl who had helped to braid my hair and intertwine them with flowers. Her beautiful face that was always so full of smiles was now stoic with her throat slashed wide open.

No! I looked away from the sight feeling my heart break.

"DAHLIA!"

This time the voice sounded more familiar and I looked up to see Ivana and Heather along with some of the other women being hauled off by some of the draumheimiers. I needed to think fast! I thought as I looked around me.

I sighted a discarded bow and arrow from a fallen sister of the earth and I wasted no time in picking it up. I looked around and sighted a crystal chandelier that was just right above the draumheimiers warriors who were still putting up a fight with women.

Taking in a deep breath, I steadied my breathing and raised my bow and nocked the arrow. "IVANA, HEATHER!" I yelled just as I released my arrow, letting it fly.

The arrow spun in the air, heading straight towards the single chain that was holding the chandelier together. I watched as the arrow struck hitting the iron chain with a sharp clang.

For a moment, there was nothing but utter stillness. The fighting stopped for a minute and the draumheimiers looked up at the chandelier then back at me, an ugly smile forming on their faces as they didn’t realize the danger they were in.

They were still laughing and wondering what I just did and for a brief moment I thought that maybe I had miscalculated. But that was impossible, there might be a dull throb in my stomach and the pain I had suffered might have clouded my senses a little but the fact that I was still the best at shooting arrows still remains.

A small clang sounded causing them to look back up again. Then... crack!

The chain snapped!

A loud crack embraced the hallway when the crystal chandelier collapsed down upon the soldiers below causing glass and metal shards to explode everywhere. Screams erupted from the men as they all tried to get away from the explosion. The ground shook from the impact followed by a dust storm that seemed to swallow the entire area in darkness.

I immediately took that as my moment, I went to go and meet Ivana and Heather. I grabbed them and the other ladies and together we made a run for it. I grabbed the rest of the ladies who were available and led them away as everywhere was still filled with the dust storm which created a perfect distraction for us.

"Please tell me there is a hidden passage way that we can use to get out of this hellhole?" I asked as we made a turn.

"There is, just right beneath Naktus tomb and some of the women are already making their way out!"

Good, "That is good!" I whispered my thoughts just as another contraction hit me and this one was heavy.

Heather seemed to notice with the way I was dragging my feet behind. She immediately grabbed me by the arm and noticing how I leaned my weight on her.

"My lady, you don’t look too well!" She observed and I almost snorted in response, "What’s wrong? Are you..." Heather trailed off as she stared down at my leg where water trickled from under me.

I watched as her eyes widen in shock but before a scream could leave her mouth, I pressed a hand to her mouth before she could scream. Heather released a muffled argument but I pressed my hand firmly against her mouth looking around me and hoping no one noticed.

"The keeper and the rest of the women need to get to safety!" I whispered while fighting another contraction.

Shoving my hand away from her mouth, Heather moved closer towards me and she hissed furiously at me. "What about you my lady? You are about to have a baby!" She whined while stamping on her feet on the ground in protest. "Who is going to protect you? You need to hurry and leave this place."

"I know that which is why I have a plan." I said as we continued to walk, "I am going to lead the draumheimiers away from them!"

"My lady!" Heather whined again!

I winced a little bit the sound loud, which was enough to draw the attention of Ivana and some of the other women. Ivana was right next to me in an instant, she grabbed my hands while bending down to search my face. "Dahlia, what is it? What’s wrong?"

"She’s having the baby now, her water broke!"

"NO_"

I immediately left Heather and went to clamp a hand on Ivana’s mouth instead. Ivana let out series of muffled protest that I was certain were just series of curses. "Will you keep it down?" I hissed at her, "Listen, you guys have to leave here_"

"Whoa, whoa, whoa, just hold on a damn minute." Heather stated, "You think we are going to leave you here? I’m sorry but if for one second you think we are going to leave you alone then you are out of your mind."

I drew in a deep breath as I tried to calm myself through the wave of contraction that hit me, "Listen to me very closely, there’s no time..."

"And you are absolutely right." Ivana interrupted me, "There’s no time which is why you need to get somewhere safe and deliver that baby. I trust you with the plan and I know that you have one but Dahlia, you need to find somewhere to deliver that baby!" Ivana finished looking down at my stomach.

I stared at her for a minute, a smile forming on my face. To be quite honest, the plan had involved me doing everything alone and if I said that didn’t terrify me, I would be lying. Bringing a child alone to this world especially with the chaos happening around me was scary.

The ache in my belly reminded me that I couldn’t have done this alone even if I tried. But as soon as I heard Ivana’s words, it was like there was still hope, like a hand had reached into the storm brewing inside of me and anchored me to something real.

"Now, what’s the plan?" Ivana asked and I grinned at her in response.

"Can you please get me to the pool?" I asked them.

Heather and Ivana frowned and Ivana was about to protest when we heard the sound of heavy footsteps coming towards us. The draumheimiers were fast approaching which meant that we needed to hurry and get out of here!

"Now please!" I said just as another wave of contraction hit me.

Heather and Ivana nodded their heads before they carried me and began to lead me towards the pool area.

"I’m coming with you too!" One of the women stated and we turned to look back at her, "I heard about your plan but you will still need someone to watch your back, it will be my honor to be that person!" She said and we shared a look amongst ourselves.

"The more the merrier I guess." I mumbled weakly before I turned back and with the help of my friends, we headed towards the pool area.
