Chapter 159: Like A Coward

DAHLIA POV

Another explosion rocked this whole place again and this time I could feel it through my whole body. Maryanne’s gaze widened in shock as she stared around fearfully. The sisters grabbed our arms, trying to get us out of here and while whoever it was were still attacking us from the outside, at least I hoped that was where they are.

The moment the doors opened, everything was in chaos. Women dressed in white ran helter-skelter some tripping all over their feet in an effort to get away from the unseen danger. It was all so rowdy and everyone were tripping on their own feet to get to safety. Some of the sisters were busy trying to guide them to go somewhere safe, some place that was hidden on beneath the mountain.

"What about Ivana and Heather?" I asked as we fell into steps along with the women who were running for sanctuary.

"If you are worried about your friends, they are probably hidden in the tomb of Naktus!" One of the women said and I knew the tomb of Naktus was where the sisters hit anytime trouble strikes and it hadn’t for a very long time.

So who were these people and why is it happening now? "The people attacking us? Who are they?"

"The Draumheimiers!" One of the sister said on a low whisper.

My eyes widened in disbelief as I stared at her in disbelief. Maryanne looked like she was about to pass out or puke, but still she continued walking moving fast this time around.

What were the draumheimiers doing here? They were nothing but nightmares which is why everyone knows not to mess with them. Because of their barbaric ways people know not to get close to them and the draumheimiers do not start a war with you unless you get into one with them and the sisters of light have always kept to themselves so why were they here?

"What about the keeper?" I asked her as I walked just as another explosion sounded and this onn lasted really long.

Screams erupted from some of the women who ran even faster. One of the sisters looked up, fear written all over her face as she stared at the entrance. "The wall isn’t going to hold!" She said and she was right.

I looked up and dread filled my stomach. Cracks crawled across the towering stone arch and I also noticed that it was already appearing on the ceiling. A piece of stone fell down to the ground with a loud rumble and I realized this wall wasn’t going to hold for long.

"We have to go, now!" One of the women urged.

The women didn’t need to be told twice, immediately they ran disappearing into an arc way that was by the left. I scanned the crowd looking for Ivana and Heather but I couldn’t find them with the too many women who were busy looking for where to hide.

"Where is the keeper?" I repeated, breathless as I held on to the arm of a sister.

"She’s in the temple, praying!" The sister replied not bothering to stop.

The mountain is under attack and the keeper was busy praying? I mean there was the right time for these things, didn’t it say the gods helped those who helped themselves? And hiding just didn’t seem like a really great plan?

"So what is the plan?" I asked hoping to the gods they had one.

The sister grabbed my arm as she stirred me into the arc way. "Right now, the plan is to hide and wait..."

That put a pause in my steps. I turned to look at the sister who had spoken but she wasn’t having it. She grabbed me and immediately pulled me till we were inside the arc. Her iron grip grabbed my arm ass he pulled me towards the stone way entrance. Chilling air blast us as we had to cautiously made our way down a spiral staircase that looked ancient.

With each step, the air grew colder until we finally entered a huge dark filled cave that was lit with only a couple of dimming lights. The fear in the air was palpable. Women held each other while trembling a little bit in fear. There were a few whimpers and others sobbing and some were trying to remain brave. I looked around us, trying to look for my friends but I couldn’t find them anywhere.

"Dahlia!"

I whirled around only to see Ivana and Heather coming towards me. The intense relief I felt when I saw the both of them coming towards me. I walked towards them almost stumbling almost in my haste to get to them. The moment I got close to them, I pulled them in for a hug.

"Oh thank the gods you are safe!" I said as I eased away to look at them.

"What’s happening? I’m scared." Heather whined as she held my hands.

Ivana looked around, "One minute I was doing some meditated and next we are being shoved into some dirty old tomb."

"Hey!" One of the women yelled out, "Watch your mouth, this dirty old tomb is where the goddess of the earth rested!"

I shook my head as I grabbed Ivana’s hands, "Listen to me we are being attacked." I informed her and as if to make emphasis on her words, the building was hit again causing dust to drop from the ceilings overhead.

It was only a matter of time before the building caved down on us. The women shrieked loudly cowering down to the ground.

"Yeah, no kidding!" Ivana responded with a heavy sigh, "What I want to know is what is the plan or do they plan on keeping us in here till whoever is attacking us finds us here?" She asked her voice rising as she looked around.

One of the sisters heaved out a sigh as she looked around. "They will never find us here, as long as we keep quiet and stay hidden...."

"Wait, wait, wait, wait, a minute..." I cut her off as I stepped forward using a hand to hold my back so I could move forward because for some reason, I was feeling really heavy. "So let me get this straight, your plan is to hide away in some tomb from the draumheimiers and...."

"The draumheimiers?" Ivana asked shuffling forward, "That is who is attacking us?" She asked.

I closed my eyes as a ripple of murmur went around in the cave. "Yes, we are under attack from the draumheimiers." I affirmed and Ivana released a string of curses.

Heaving out a sigh, she pinched the bridge of her nose before she turned to look at the sisters. "Please tell me that there there’s some other plan than hiding in a cave like fucking rats."

"The goddess Naktus will protect..."

"Will you shut up with all that goddess Naktus talk!" Ivana yelled at one of the women who had spoken. She immediately cowered in a corner, Ivana looked around before she stepped forward. "You know what, just tell me there’s something else. That there is some better plan we have other than waiting for the goddess to save us because I will tell you now, she isn’t coming! They don’t interfere with the affairs of the mortals, so please tell me you’ve got something!"

"We fight!" I suddenly said stepping forward.

"What?" Maryanne breathed out.

Ivana chuckled as she moved closer towards me, "Yeah Dahlia what?" She asked me, "You know in case you missed it, you are pregnant and even if you can still fight like this the rest of us can’t. It’s all women in here."

"Not just ordinary women." I said as I turned to look at the women who were holding spears. "You know I read about you before coming here. You are women of the mountain, you are sisters of the fire, guardians, powerful women who built this place in order to protect women from the evil men and let me tell you something, those men out there are the worst of the worsts!"

The room was silent, everyone holding on to their breath, listening to what I have to say.

"If we hide here and they find us, they are going to kill us all and I’m not going to lie if we go out to, they will kill us!" I said and a loud murmur went up, "But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try. They may have forgotten that we are not just women, they may have forgotten about your roles in earth but that doesn’t mean you have to be weak and forget about your past. It is time to pick up that weapon once again!"

"But we are scared!"

"I’m scared too, but I’ll be damned if I die here in this cave like a coward, I am going to fight for my child to live, what about you?" I asked her with them before I turned and headed towards the exit ignoring the explosion that rocked the earth from underneath us.
