THE Knight's Hidden Princess
Chapter 154: Not Your Fault

Chapter 154: Not Your Fault

DAHLIA POV

I stared at the water in front of me, trying very hard not to let that memory of what I had experienced as a child get into my mind. But it doesn’t matter, no matter what I did, staring at the water just seemed to take me back to that place. The water looked crystal clean, white and soft pink petals drifted effortlessly with the current as if they were untroubled with life.

I knew the water would be soothing, it looked warm and inviting but I just still couldn’t bring myself to enter inside. Just because it was beautiful on the outside doesn’t mean the inside was safe!

I could feel the eyes of the sisters who were supposed to teach me the entire process on me. They were probably waiting for me to get into the water so they can begin today’s lesson. Swallowing, I tried to look at anywhere else but the water. I couldn’t help myself, I stayed rooted to the spot unable to look away.

Just get in the water! Just get inside the water it shouldn’t be that difficult! I told myself but old memories resurfaced and anytime I stared at the water, all I could do was just see those green eyes telling me everything was going to be okay as water filled my organs and I drown.

"What’s taking so long sister?" One of them called me.

Taking in a deep breath, I turned to look at the woman who had spoken. I guess there was no point in hiding it any longer. "I’m sorry, I can’t do this exercise."

"We didn’t ask you though."

"Yeah, well I am telling you that I won’t be doing this exercise!" I said as I grabbed my robe and began to wear it.

I saw the women exchange a few glances amongst themselves but I didn’t care. I walked away from the pool and began to head out but just before I could make it outside, my path was blocked by the sisters of the light.

I stared at the spears they used to block my path before I stared at them. "Let me through."

"We can’t do that."

"You need to complete your lesson." The women said and I huffed out a breath trying to hide my frustration.

"And I already told you, I am not doing it. Anything but that, now let me pass." I demanded my voice rising.

The women didn’t oblige to my request, instead they straightened as they stared down at me. "Do you even know the purpose of this lesson?" One of them asked me.

"Do you know why women stay inside the water during child birth?"

I heaved out a sigh. "No, but I do suppose you are about to tell me."

Drawing in a deep breath one of the women spoke. "It is common knowledge that women give birth in water for the potential benefits if pain relief and relaxation and a more gentle transition for the baby. The warm water helps to relax your muscles and reduce the feeling of pain and pressure, especially during the later stages of labor."

"It is also believed that water births allow for a gentle transition for the baby, softening the light and reducing noise from the womb."

I swallowed as I looked at the women. Forming a smile on my face, I clasped my hands together. "Well thank you for that history lesson, but I’ll give birth the old fashion way which is lying down on my back and as for the pain, I think I’ll manage just fine."

"It’s not just about the pain." A woman hissed at me and I turned to look at her, "The water listens. It recalls our history, their suffering, their resilience...their compassion. This is history among strong women of the earth, when she enters the water to give life, she’s not alone. She’s surrounded by those who came before her."

Another sister stepped forward. "The ceremony today was to awaken your connection to the previous sisters of the earth."

"Well the former sisters of the earth will just have to find a way to get to know me, because there’s nothing you can do that will make me get in the water." I informed them, "You see it as a ceremony, but I just see it as some things I do not want to carry, now let me out."

The women shared a look before their expression turned fierce. "And what if we don’t?"

I smirked at them, then I took a step backwards assessing them with my eyes. "Look, I know you all have a policy for no violence but if you don’t let me pass now we are going to have some serious issues."

The women didn’t even bat an eye at my words. They just stared at me as if I had not just spoken.

"No violence." She informed me with a smile on her face. "But that doesn’t mean you can’t be restrained!"

"Be restrained?"

The second woman, slightly shorter than the first, nodded her head in affirmation. "Yeah. You are not going anywhere until you enter the water."

"Well that’s a bit unfortunate because you can’t make me!"

"Then you will be forced!"

These women do not understand anything. They didn’t understand me, they do not understand what I’ve been through. But I didn’t even need them to understand, I wasn’t going to be getting into the water.

"Let me make this clear, anyone who lays a hand on me will lose that hand, permanently!" I said my voice was cold and filled with a dark promise.

The women stared at me. "We know what you are but the question should be can you take on all of us at once."

"Want to test that theory?" I asked, already readying myself for a fight.

The women slowly began to advance towards me. Their slow measured strides as predators tracking their prey. I braced myself for the fight I knew was coming.

I looked at them, and I counted at least six of them that were armed. It wasn’t a fair fight but I’ve held my own against far worse, so I think I can handle a few sisters of the earth.

"This is the last warning that you will get from me." I said quietly, "I don’t want to hurt anyone but I will if I have to."

The shorter one tilted her head to the side. "Neither do we, but we will if we have to!"

"Yeah, let’s see how well you fare in a six against one battle!" Another said in a taunting manner.

"Oh darling you have no idea!" I said raising my fists.

"Don’t even bother to go against her!" A loud voice said and I turned to see the keeper being escorted along with another woman. "You wouldn’t be able to hold your own in a fight against hers!" She said, looking straight at me with those milky eyes of hers.

"Keeper!" All the women said bowing their heads as she entered.

The keeper acknowledged us with a small nod before she walked into the room. Her pale eyes glowed softly as she eliminated the tension that surrounded us. Despite the fact that she looked like her child, she walked in the room almost as if she owned it. She looked eternal with her long flowing dress and her veil that was held by a crown of different flowers.

The women stepped aside bowing their heads deeper in respect but all I did was just stand there staring at the keeper as she approached me. The way she stared at me was a bit unnerving. She stared at me like she could see all of me, even the parts I had made sure to keep hidden.

But I remained still as I watched her as she stopped in front of me. "Walk with me?" She asked me but it doesn’t feel like a question.

She turned on her heels and walked out of the room. I shot the other women who had all returned back to their position, as if they had not planned to force me before. Taking a deep breath, I decided to follow the keeper even though I was not in any mood to talk to her.

Complete silence took over the hallways giving the impression that the whole building maintained an anxious silence. Keeping a distance behind the Keeper I watched her bare feet move silently as her white robes made gentle contact with her ankles. She maintained absolute silence during that time period. Silence surrounded both of us as I continued to walk after her until eventually she led us towards a large oak tree and there she sat down.

I looked around me then back at her. Her small smile was encouraging as I lowered myself to a seat.

"Are you angry?" I asked her.

The keeper smiled at me. "Why should I be angry at a woman who is not ready to face her trauma yet?" She asked me, "What your mother did to you was horrible but it wasn’t your fault, neither was it hers!"
