THE Knight's Hidden Princess
Chapter 140: A Ridiculous Idea

Chapter 140: A Ridiculous Idea

DAHLIA POV

"This is a ridiculous idea!" Heather said from where she was busy knitting on the rocking chair.

"Well, I think its bloody brilliant!" I argued as I stared at my masterpiece.

Eddie was dressed in the outfit I wear as the black knight. The rebels had given me an ultimatum to bring the black knight with me to the next meeting and it was only then that they would agree to help me. I couldn’t exactly show up in two places at once, besides I’m already showing and the black knight can’t show up heavily pregnant since everyone assumes that it is man.

The thoughts had kept me up most nights and I knew I couldn’t do this on my own, I needed help. I decided to tell Heather and Eddie about it. While Eddie had seemed overly excited to be playing the black knight, Heather on the other hand didn’t seem too thrilled with the idea and have been trying to talk me out of it since then but I had already made up my mind.

"This is so cool, I mean I still find it hard to believe that you are the black knight but I even find it harder to believe that I would be acting as the black knight!" Eddie gushed, the excitement evident on his face.

Heather groaned as she rolled her eyes but I just clamped Eddie by the shoulder while grinning at him. "Best believe it buddy!" I said which made Eddie grin even more.

Snorting in response, Heather looked up at us. "And do you think the rebels fools to believe that he is truly the black knight?"

"Don’t worry Heather, his face will be covered, no one will see!" I brushed her off and Heather scoffed at me.

"Please, I’m not worried about that." She said then sighed, "I mean for one he looks too skinny to be the black knight and maybe a little short too_"

"Hey!" Eddie protested loudly, clearly offended.

I smiled while patting Eddie on the shoulder. "Do not pay any mind to Heather_" I said this while shooting Heather a mock glare, "I think you look great, besides it’s all about the presence not size."

"Yeah, you keep telling yourself that but presence doesn’t hide the fact that he trips on his feet like a deer on ice when he’s nervous!" Heather retorted while leveling both of us with a look.

Eddie released a loud gasp, clearly offended by her words. "Okay now that’s just a big fat lie, everyone know I’m a very graceful person, I mean I am a knight_"

"Squire!" I corrected him and about the graceful part, Eddie was anything but that. I still didn’t tell him and held my tongue instead, choosing to let him and Heather argue.

"It doesn’t matter, I have the grace and poise of a knight!" Eddie argued puffing out his chest.

Heather arched a brow up at him, "Really? Is that why you tripped on your own feet while coming in here? Twice if I may ask?"

I coughed to hide my laughter but a smile must have formed on my face because Eddie huffed out while stomping his feet in anger. "Okay that was one time, come on!"

Failing to hide my laughter, I turned to look at Heather. "Look we do not need him to fight, all he has to do is stand there and say nothing, and the legend of the black knight will do most of the work for us."

"Still think it’s a ridiculous plan!" Heather went back to her knitting, clearly done with the conversation.

"It’s a good plan!" I countered, "I thought about this through and Eddie will do a good job!"

Eddie grinned at me, puffing out his chest with pride. "And besides, I get to be legend for a night!"

"Ha!" Heather snorted, "As if, just don’t come running to me when it all goes horribly wrong and believe me it will go wrong?"

I turned to look at Heather with a smile on my face. "Which is why you will be coming with me."

"What? No!" Heather gasped but Eddie and I just continued to look at her with a smile and Heather shook her head again, "No, no, that’s not happening! There’s no way, I’m coming with you!" Heather continued to say but Eddie and I just grinned at her.

"I honestly can’t believe you dragged me here with you!" Heather grumbled as we alighted from our horse.

"You are already here, so believe it!" I said with a smile as I stared at the tavern ahead where two men were stationed outside to guard the place.

I had brought Heather along with me because I had figured I was going to get through the rebel if they saw a more familiar face. Heather knew these people, she’s been friends with them and know what they’ve all been through. She relates with them more than I ever will, so perhaps she could help me.

"You ready?" I asked Heather.

Sighing, Heather drew her cloak tighter around her as she walked ahead. "Let’s just get this over with."

I smiled but I trailed after her. Heather might think this was a terrible plan but at least it was better than no plan at all. Besides, I know this was going to work out fine. With the rebels on my side, we could just spread the word and we can join forces, I can finally take care of my father for good and then, I’ll get Evie back.

As we approached the tavern, the two men stood with folded arms across their chests in front of us trying to seem more intimidating. "Declare your purpose!" One of the men ordered in a loud voice.

My purpose? I frowned as I eyed him. "What’s going on? Isn’t Lars expecting us?"

"Declare your purpose!" The man repeated again.

Huffing out a breath, I stared up at them. "I need to speak with Lars, he asked to see me!"

The other man stood tall as he scowled down at me. "Lars doesn’t meet with strangers!"

I scoffed as I looked away in disbelief. Strangers? Okay, agreed these people aren’t exactly fan of the royal family but going as far as to call me a stranger, that going a bit too far!

"Listen, I am not a stranger." I said through gritted teeth, "You’ve seen me countless of times around here and even if you can’t remember let me be so kind to refresh your memory, I am the princess!" I hissed at them.

The men merely blinked at me, "Don’t care, still a stranger around this part!"

Oh the audacity!

"Oh for fuck’s sake!" Heather shuffled forward as she yanked down her hood, "Open the damn door Fennwick!"

"Heather?" The man gasped out loud in disbelief.

"Damn straight it is, now open the bloody door!" Heather growled.

The man called Fennwick immediately straightened, dropping his arms as he stared at us. "Look I’m sorry but I can’t still open the door!"

"And why is that?" I snapped, my patience wearing thin.

"Because no one wants to help you!" The other guards said, "Even with everything you said, we are still reluctant to help you and even though you know the black knight like you claimed, some of us still are not quite convinced yet."

"Is that so?" Heather asked, "And what if we tell you the black knight is here with us?"

Fennwick scoffed with an eye roll, "We all know that is just you playing tricks on us!"

"No tricks, he is here!" Heather responded.

"Then where is he?"

"Right here!" A voice suddenly said and Fennwick and the other guard turned to look back but it was already too late.

Eddie dressed as the black knight reached forward and threw a quick jab at the guard’s necks, knocking them out instantly. Heather and I moved out of the way just as the two guards fell forward, slumping down to the ground.

Heather heaved out a sigh as she yanked her cloak out of the way. "Was that really necessary?"

Eddie shrugged, his voice muffled thanks to the scarf wrapped around his face. "Well, they were just going to delay us, we had to get in!"

"But you could have at least waited for a minute instead of trying to draw attention towards us!" Heather countered.

Shaking my head I stepped over one of the unconscious guards. Heather was right, this was going to draw attention towards us but we also needed to get inside, we were already running out of time. "Let’s just find our way inside before someone decides to come out and check on them!"

Heather shot Eddie a look, then grumbling under her breath she stepped over the guards just as I kicked the door open and I heard Heather mumble something about me being ’too dramatic’ but I paid her no heed as I scanned the tavern. The smell of ale and also the damp smell of sweat was heavy in the air. It was packed with a lot of people who were now staring at us with a look of curiosity.

I scanned the tavern again, till eventually my gaze landed on Lars who was lounging at the back of the room, his legs crossed on the table with a match stick playing on his lips. He regarded us with a cool look before he removed the match stick from his mouth.

"Guess Fennwick and Gary do not take their guards job seriously!" He drawled out lazily.

"Guess you are the kind not to honor a deal!" I retorted, "But it’s a good thing I do!" I said and I watched as Lar’s eyes turned to the entrance, his gaze widening when he saw who was entering.

"No, no, no, it can’t be!" He whispered.

I smirked at him in response, "You asked to see the black knight, well here he is!"
