Chapter 137: The Princess And A Bunch Of Rebel
Lars stepped out from the shadows and flanking him were four other men but the only people I recognized were Hansel and Nick. Lars voice was authoritative and cold, enough to make Dwayne rethink his decision and take a step backwards but not before he bared his teeth at me, probably to make it seem as if he was more frightening but he wasn’t, there were a lot of scary men in the world but nothing tops my father.
I stared at Lars who crossed his arms as he watched me, his expression inscrutable. His black cloak billowed softly in the night breeze as his gaze flicked between Dwayne and me before settling squarely on me.
"Princess." He drawled out, no sign of respect in his tone, "Fancy seeing you here_"
I took a step forward in all my excitement. "Lars, I_"
"Bah, bah, bah, bah..." Lars stopped me from taking another step forward by raising her hand. "Don’t let’s get comfortable yet." He said staring at me and I didn’t miss the underlying warning in his tone.
A quick survey around my surroundings showed that the men had become tense, their hands resting on their swords. It was a clear sign that I wasn’t welcome here, perhaps I should have thought this through before I came here. Not like I see them as a threat but then I could have thought about it more carefully to be honest.
"How did you find out about this place and don’t you dare think of lying to me." Lars said in a stern voice.
I rolled my eyes but decided to answer his questions truthfully. I told him about the time where I had overheard their conversation about the Kashkil warriors trying to eliminate Reagan and how I had acted on it.
Lars cocked his head at me, "I always wondered why the hellhound never made it past the border, so that was all you."
"I was just trying to save one more life before my father could ruin it again." I said not at all feeling sorry their plan didn’t work.
"Yeah, just like you saved ours?" Dwayne replied in a snarky tone.
I glared at him but didn’t bother to give him a response. I wasn’t about to be swayed by a pair of icy stares and snarky replies. I turned to look back at Lars and I made a move to pull down my hood which was a silent assurance that when I came here, I have no intentions to make trouble.
"Look Lars, I know you still don’t trust me..."
"Damn straight, I do not!" Lars agreed earning a rumble of chuckle from the men gathered.
"And that’s fine, I understand. It doesn’t matter what I do, it will never be enough to wipe away the hurt my family had caused you but I also know that this is selfish of me to ask but I need your help!" I said while looking at Lars who stared at me.
An heavy silence descended the night as the men stared at me unblinking and then Lars started chuckling and the men joined in and then it turned into a full blown laughter that cut through the night, icy and contemptuous. I stood there listening to their laughter with my hands fisting my cloak but I remained still, my expression unreadable as I waited for them to finish their mockery.
Lars heaved out a deep sigh, grinning as he shook his head at me. "You hear that lads? The princess is in need of our help." His smile was cold as he stared at me. "The princess and the rebels? Now that would make a good tale in the taverns!" He said and the men grunted their assent, some spitting at the side while others settled for cursing under their breaths.
I didn’t flinch, straightening my back I stared at them. "Yes and believe me there is nothing hilarious about me coming to ask a bunch of rebels for help, you can just chuck it up to me being desperate!"
"And tell me Princess_" Hansel spoke as he stepped closer towards me, "What is it you need help for?"
I stared at him then turned to stare at the rest of the men. I decided right then to just come out and say it. "I need help killing my father!"
Another heavy silence descended and then one of the men started laughing and the rest followed laughing except for Hansel and Lars who regarded me with utter wariness. They didn’t find this funny like the other men who just laughed into the night like I had just requested for the most ridiculous thing, and in a way maybe it was but I was dead serious.
"You are serious!" Lars gasped out loud.
I shrugged at him. "I will kill him but I will need your help to do that, so please help me?"
"Okay come on." Dwayne stepped forward, "We are not going to believe her, I mean we are supposed to believe that the spoilt princess wants to kill her father?"
"Well I am here asking for help, aren’t I?" I retorted starting to get angry.
Dwayne narrowed his eyes at me. "And what makes you so sure that we are going to help you?"
"Because you hate my father!" I responded without missing a beat, "and that is enough reason for anyone to agree to help me, I have Intel and resources, whatever you need to get inside the castle and kill my father, but I don’t have enough man powers!"
"And we do?" Nick asked me.
I turned to look at him, "I know you guys have a secret club that plans the downfall of the royal family. All I need is for you to spare me and my siblings!"
Things were quiet for a minute before Lars shook his head. "Well sorry princess, but we can’t help you. You did good to be honest, but still not going to help you!"
"Really now?" I asked him, "And what if it was the black knight who needs your help?"
