THE Knight's Hidden Princess -
Chapter 125: Side Of The Story
Chapter 125: Side Of The Story
Celeste was never pregnant in the first place, which was what I concluded after all Reagan told me. I had spent the entire night trying to piece everything back together. Reagan had told me Celeste had lost her baby except she couldn’t have because I didn’t go near her and I protected her so she couldn’t have. There was also the fact that Reagan had told me he didn’t have anything to do with her when he found her. He couldn’t bring himself to, but there was one time he had drunk himself to stupor and he couldn’t remember anything else except for the fact that Celeste had woken up right next to him naked and even then, he was still sure nothing had happened.
So all of that could only mean one thing, Celeste had been lying to us all! The truth would be a little bit difficult to prove though, but that was none of my business. What matters is getting through this fucking ridiculous trial Marina had set up for me. I call it ridiculous because that is exactly what it is, it is fucking ridiculous because the whole thing just ends up being in Marina’s favor.
This was exactly what she wanted anyway, a way to trap me, force me into a corner where I had no other defend myself in front of the court. Marina would do anything to humiliate me and it was all so horribly transparent and yet no one seemed to challenge it, no except me and Reagan and it was all thanks to him that this became a private matter instead of round the court like Marina originally wanted it to.
Since the matter had happened in the house, Reagan wanted it to be kept within the house much to Marina’s disappointment. I couldn’t help but smile at the little triumph, no matter how little it was, it was a win anyway and I was going to take it.
I knew what Marina was trying to do with this trial, I knew this wasn’t about a search for justice. This was more about control, a conquest and if only my evil father had been so calm I wouldn’t be stuck here in this mess. But then it’s not like he cared about me in the first place, truth was he never cared about any of us and I knew that but after the person I had seen in Celeste’s room, the one person I didn’t expect it was then I knew that he was nothing but a big son of a bitch. I was going to get to him later but first, I will finish whatever the hell this was.
"So, now that everyone is here, shall we begin?" I heard Reagan’s cool voice and I looked up to see him staring down at me from where he sat on his seat while Celeste sat down beside him preening like a peacock at the fact that she was near him.
The way Reagan stared down at me with so much emptiness in his gaze, there was a time when it would have scared me. But that was before I knew how he felt about me and there was the fact that he had been balls deep inside of me three times during day break before we decided to roll out of bed.
I looked away from him and schooled my expression and my gaze was focused on Marina who was staring directly at me, her lips thinned as she stared at me with an expression that was none other than pure hatred.
I stared at her, not looking away from her and allowing even a flicker of doubt even in my expression. If she wanted to fabricate lies about me, that was fine by me but I’d make damn sure she knew who the hell truly wielded power in this room.
"By all means, let’s proceed!" Marina spoke before she stood up from her seat, keeping her gaze as she walked towards me. "When a man marries two wives, it is expected for the two wives to learn how to coexist with one another in other for there to be harmony in the house. But it will appear our princess here thinks she’s too good for that and instead she suggested to take matters into her own hands."
First of all, Celeste wasn’t married to him and that bullshit about when a man marries two wives he has to coexist is just some drunken tale women tell themselves in order to be able to keep their home! But I didn’t say anything, didn’t even flinch as the murmurs rippled through the room and just continued to let Marina talk.
Stepping forward till she was directly in front of me, eyes blazing as she stared me down from where I was sitting down. "You attacked Celeste, out of spite and all because you just wanted to be the only woman in his life. You just couldn’t bear it could you?"
"You know that’s an interesting claim, but there’s one crucial thing you seem to be missing." I said, my voice even and controlled. "You do not have any proof Marina, so everything you seem to be saying is just pure lies."
Marina grinned at me, her lips curling upwards revealing teeth that looks like that of a shark just about to eats its prey. "Is it though? Because I’ve got enough witnesses." Marina said then snapped her fingers and the doors opened.
Everyone looked up as a group of people entered the room. I stared at them before I realized who they were. They were the court ladies, the women I had invited for the parties I had thrown in order to protect Celeste. I could see Lady Ivana standing in the middle of the room, surveying everything with that calculating glint in her eyes and when her gaze landed on me she smiled then wiggled her fingers at me in a wave.
I groaned inwardly, wondering what the hell she was up to now.
"These are the ladies who have witnessed the hostility you’ve been showing Celeste ever since Reagan left." Marina said, "You used that opportunity to show your power and when you thought you couldn’t control her, you decided to kill her instead."
Celeste chose to release a dramatic sob at that moment, wriggling in her seat as she clutched Reagan’s arm and it was all I could do to stop myself from rolling my eyes at her theatrics.
"For the last time, I didn’t kill Celeste or even attacked her!" I said before I took a deep breath, "And besides, I only threw that party to protect her."
"Oh I bet that was what you think but strangely enough that wasn’t how it seemed to the ladies." Marian said before she turned to look at the women, "Lady Brigit, want to tell me exactly what you had seen at the parties Dahlia had hosted for you."
"Lady Dahlia!" Reagan interrupted all of a sudden.
Everyone turned to look at him clearly surprised that he had spoken but Reagan didn’t seem to care. "You will treat her with the same respect you use to treat all the ladies in here."
Marina’s lips thinned but she nodded her head in response, "But of course." She said before she turned to look at Lady Brigit, "Can you please tell us about the interaction you saw between Lady Celeste and Lady Dahlia?"
Lady Brigit stepped forward, her face tightly composed. She was one of the more subdued women in the court, more like a wallflower really but even I knew she would have no qualms about throwing me under the carriage if it was going to work in her favor.
Giving me a brief look, Lady Brigit crossed her hands in front of her before she turned to look up at Reagan. "During these parties Lady Dahlia had thrown, we couldn’t help but notice the tension between them."
"We?" I mumbled under my breath but decided to listen closely to what else Lady Brigit has to say because it seems she has quite a lot to say.
"The tea party she hosted, Lady Celeste was late because of her hormones due to her pregnancy but that didn’t seem to sit well with her and of course they had a heated conversation about it!"
"Heated? Really Lady Brigit?" I asked unable to keep quiet.
"Do not interrupt the witness!" Reagan spoke up.
I turned to look at him wanting to tell him the whole thing is outrageous but I willed myself to keep quiet. Turning to look back at Lady Brigit, I let her continue.
"The second party was when things got even tenser between them." She said, "Lady Celeste was kind of enough to tell us things that made her happy in her own house, Lady Dahlia had told her she would never be happy because she was always going to be a mere servant."
Reagan’s gaze flashed to mine and I couldn’t look at him because I was ashamed of myself. Lady Brigit might have twisted the words a little bit but I did say that and implied Celeste would only be a mere servant.
"And that is what led to her sneaking into Celeste’s room, so she could end her once and for all!" Marina yelled looking at me, her eyes wild and malicious because she knew I had no one in my corner not one witness.
"Except, that wasn’t all that happened at the party, was it?" A voice spoke up and we all turned only to see Lady Ivana walking forward as she stopped right next to Lady Brigit, "Now if it would please everyone here, I’d like to tell my own side of the story?"
