The Hero's Forsaken Princess
Chapter 79: Confrontation

Chapter 79: Confrontation

Alaric didn’t give Eve time to resist. He kissed her passionately, his fingers grabbing her chin tightly. He plunged his tongue, dragging it along the surface of her lips as he urged her to open her mouth for him.

He gently bit her lower lip, making her surrender to what he wanted. She yelped and parted her lips, letting his tongue explore her mouth.

Eve closed her eyes, savoring the heated kiss. Deep inside, she longed for his kiss. His tongue swirled inside her mouth, licking and tasting her own tongue.

As Alaric deepened the kiss further, his hands began to roam around her body, tracing the side of her waist. One hand captured her breast, fondling and kneading it through the fabric of her chiton dress.

Eve could feel the heat pooling between her legs. Her body was on fire. Alaric knew how to make her feel good.

After a while, Alaric pulled back from the kiss, resting his forehead on hers. When she opened her eyes, she found his gray orbs staring at her intently. She blushed under his heated gaze.

"Alaric," she softly mumbled his name.

"Hearing your soft voice calling my name is like pleasant music in my ears..." His gaze softened as he planted a gentle kiss on her nose.

The words were caught in her throat. Eve had forgotten what she was going to tell him because of Alaric’s last remarks.

"I’m dying to know the reason why you pretended to be mute... but first, let me clarify some things for you." Alaric lifted her, carrying her toward the bed.

He sat down on the edge of the bed while placing Eve on his lap.

Eve just watched him in puzzlement. "Clarify things about what?"

"I don’t know what you’ve heard about me. I just want you to know that I’m not having an affair with Princess Thalia. I don’t know where you get that idea." Alaric narrowed his eyes.

"You’ve mentioned earlier about me asking for blessings from King Solomon and Queen Amara. Who fed you those lies?" He sounded upset about her lack of trust.

"I didn’t ask for a divorce! I never wanted to be with Princess Thalia! Are you just making such a reason to discard me and divorce me because you don’t want a husband with a commoner background?"

Eve opened her mouth to speak up only to close it again. She looked at him confusedly.

"I know. I’m just a lowly knight with a poor background. We have a different status. You are a royalty, while I’m just a commoner. Do you hate being married to me so much, Princess?"

"That’s why you pretended to be mute while hiding your real face." Alaric’s expression hardened as he expressed his thoughts with her.

This time Eve finally shook her head. "No! Of course not. I don’t care about our different status. I don’t care if you came from a commoner family. I’m not making excuses to divorce you. It’s just that... I thought you were having an affair with Thalia."

"The royal guards saw you kissing her and making out with her on the riverside... They said you wanted to divorce me and to make your relationship with Princess Thalia official."

Hearing those words, Alaric spat a series of curses. He rubbed the space between his brows as he finally grasped the situation.

"They saw and interpreted things the wrong way! I didn’t kiss her. I was trying to save her from drowning. Did Thalia lie to you as well, making you believe I kissed her?"

Eve bit her lower lip as she nodded in response. There was a moment of awkward silence between them.

"I told you... don’t believe their lies. Before, you accused me of hiring bandits to kill you. And now, you are accusing me of being unfaithful to you. You always believed them." Alaric couldn’t hide his unhappiness.

"You also don’t trust me. You trust Thalia’s words more. You already judged me without letting me explain." Eve spat back at him, remembering the incident at the palace entrance gate.

This time Alaric admitted his mistake. "Forgive me. I had to do it for your own sake. And you already slapped me for that."

Alaric explained his motive for acting that way, and Eve understood. He did it to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

"Of course, I won’t make you kneel in front of her. I can humble myself for you. I can kneel or kiss someone else’s foot on your behalf... just to protect you. That’s why I apologized to her... because I knew she was deliberately trying to humiliate you," Alaric uttered those words with utmost sincerity.

Eve was rendered speechless. She didn’t expect that Alaric would be willing to do those things for her own sake. Her heart fluttered, feeling the warmth inside her.

"Is this true? You don’t like Princess Thalia? You don’t want to divorce me?" Eve asked him again for confirmation, tears welling up in her eyes.

Alaric took a deep sigh. "What should I do to make you believe me?"

He gently put her down on the bed and he stood up to face her. Then he dropped to his knees in front of her.

"Princess Eve, if I told you any lies... then I should die an ugly death in my next battle."

Eve’s eyes widened when she heard that. She immediately tugged his shoulders, pulling him up.

"Don’t curse yourself to die! I don’t want you to die. I believe you now!" Eve immediately hugged Alaric, showing her genuine concern for his safety.

Alaric’s lips twitched fighting a smile. He didn’t expect Eve to be so worried about him. "Will you be sad if I die? Will you cry for me?"

Eve punched his chest and said, "Stop that. I told you not to curse yourself to die!"

Alaric pulled her body closer, hugging her back. He gently kissed her head as she buried her face on his chest.

Eve could hear the loud beating of his heart.

"Eve," Alaric called out her name.

"I think I’ve cleared our misunderstanding about my affair with Princess Thalia."

Eve just nodded her head.

Alaric gazed down at her with complicated emotions on his face.

"Now... Can you tell me the truth? Do you love Gavin Ravenmoor?" Alaric mustered his courage up to finally confront Eve about her relationship with Gavin.
