Chapter 78: Bound for Eternity

Eve took a deep breath before stepping inside Alaric’s quarters. She made up her mind to confront him tonight before returning to Stormholt Manor.

She wanted to make this conversation quick since Gideon was waiting for her outside the barracks.

As she entered the room, she saw Alaric sitting in his chair with his eyes closed. Next to him, she noticed an empty barrel of beer.

’Is he drunk?’ Eve asked herself inwardly.

She inhaled deeply, trying to calm her anxious heart before striding toward Alaric.

She gently tapped his shoulder and called his name, "Alaric?"

Hearing her soft voice, Alaric peeled his eyes open. Eve’s beautiful face greeted his sight. He blinked several times, just staring at her.

"Are you drunk?" Eve asked him worriedly.

But Alaric just smiled at her before grabbing her hand. Without saying a word, he pulled her, making her sit on his lap.

Eve was caught by surprise. Before she could react, she was trapped in his strong arms.

"Let me go. I’m here to talk with you." She tried to push him but Alaric’s hold on her body was firm. With their close proximity, she could smell his masculine scent mixed with the alcohol.

"My beautiful wife is here," Alaric mumbled while giggling in his drunken state.

Eve frowned upon seeing his reaction. ’He is drunk. I can’t talk to him properly in his current state.’

"You are drunk. Let’s talk tomorrow in the manor," Eve said, pouting her lips. She tried to struggle from his grasp, attempting to free herself and stand up.

However, Alaric refused to let her go. He even hugged her tightly, burying his face in the crook of her neck. She could feel his hot breath fanning her sensitive flesh.

"Don’t move," he murmured, his lips planting a soft kiss on her neck.

Eve’s body stiffened at the feeling of his cold lips touching her skin. Her heart started to race.

"Alaric! Stop. What are you doing?" Eve tried to hold his face, pushing him away from her neck.

"Eve, just stay like this for a while. Let me hug you. Don’t leave me," he uttered pleadingly as he gazed at her.

Eve was taken aback for a moment. She didn’t expect Alaric to beg her to stay. She could see vulnerability in his eyes right now. His actions were making her more confused.

’Is he acting like this just because he had seen my real face? I’m no longer the ugly princess in his eyes, that’s why he wants me to stay with him.’ Eve smiled bitterly at that thought.

Alaric buried his face on her neck once more, his lips continued kissing her flesh. His strong arms were wrapped around her body. He nuzzled his nose against her jaw, sniffing her sweet scent.

"I miss you so much," he mumbled in his drunken state.

Eve froze the moment she heard those words from Alaric.

’Is he telling the truth? No! Don’t believe him. How could he miss me if he had Thalia during the entire journey?’

Eve slammed her eyes shut and gritted her teeth. She shouldn’t waver at this moment. She had to stop deceiving herself. She was tired of putting her hopes on Alaric. She trusted him once but he failed her miserably.

"Alaric... I don’t know if you can hear me or if you can understand me right now." Eve gently cupped his face, making him look at her.

"We need to stop pretending now. We should be honest about our feelings. If you truly want to be with Princess Thalia, then you can just tell me directly. There’s no need for you to lie as if you care about me."

Hearing those words from Eve, Alaric finally loosened his grip on her body. She took that chance to stand up, distancing herself from Alaric.

Eve lowered her gaze, clenching her fists.

"I’ve heard about your affair with Princess Thalia. I don’t know if you already asked the blessings of King Solomon and Queen Amara during the grand banquet."

Eve could no longer wait until tomorrow. She didn’t know if she could still find the courage to confront him once he sobered up.

Alaric also rose from his chair, facing Eve. He didn’t say a word. He just listened to her.

Eve bit her lower lip, mustering her courage up. There was a moment of silence between them. But she could sense that Alaric was staring at her intently, waiting for her to continue.

Taking a deep sigh, Eve raised her head and glanced at Alaric. She mustered the courage to look into his eyes.

"Alaric," she uttered his name.

Alaric’s gray orbs never left her face. He had been dying to hear her voice. And now, Eve was directly talking to him– no quill pen and no parchment paper.

"Let’s divorce. I’m finally letting you go," she said with a scarce emotion on her lovely face.

Seeing her resolve, Alaric felt heaviness in his heart. Her words made him sober up instantly. His face darkened, clenching his jaw.

He stepped forward, closing the gap between them. "Don’t mention divorce in front of me. I’m tired of hearing that word the entire day!"

Eve instinctively stepped back.

"You can’t leave me. You are bound to me for eternity."

He forcibly grabbed her, pinning her on the wall.

Eve swallowed hard when his towering figure loomed over her.

"And your body... doesn’t LIE," he whispered sensually, his lips gently nibbling on her earlobe while his hands started caressing her sensitive spots– the side of her waist, the spot close to her chest, and her collarbones.

His fingers teased her, caressing and stroking her flesh in a very tempting manner. Every touch and every stroke sent her body on fire.

Eve’s breath hitched, her heartbeat racing wildly. ’Damn. Why does my body react to his every touch?’

Seeing her struggle to resist him, he smirked triumphantly. "You yearn for my touch and my kisses. You also desire me..."

Eve wanted to object and tell him he was wrong. However, the next thing she felt was his lips roughly brushing against hers in a hungry kiss.
