The Hero's Forsaken Princess
Chapter 65: Provocation

Chapter 65: Provocation

Eve and Randolf came to a sudden halt as another group of royal guards blocked their path. The royal guards of Eldara were alerted when they saw Averion’s knights lying on the ground near the entrance gate.

Randolf’s fighting stance compelled the royal guards to unsheath their swords.

But before the clash could happen, the royalty who was being escorted stepped forward to speak to Eve.

"What a pleasant surprise, Princess Eve. I thought you couldn’t make it tonight." Princess Thalia greeted Eve with her elated voice.

Eve gently tapped Randolf’s shoulder, signaling him to put down his sword. He quickly obeyed her.

Thalia also motioned for her guards to stand aside. "Can I have a moment with you, Princess Eve?"

Eve simply nodded. She was curious as to why Princess Thalia wanted to talk to her.

Thalia smiled slyly the moment Eve agreed. ’I’m so lucky to bump into her tonight. This is my chance to plant a seed of doubt in her mind. I’ll stir a conflict between Alaric and her!’

The two princesses decided to distance themselves from their guards to talk privately. Before leaving them, Randolf handed Eve her quill pen and parchment.

Left alone, Thalia finally dropped her friendly pretense. She moved closer to Eve and said, "Eve, you are so bold to show up here even though you are not invited."

"You even created a big ruckus at the entrance gate, causing more delays and obstructing the guards with their task."

Thalia pointed her fingers in the direction of the royal guards beaten up by Gideon and the nobles lining up at the entrance gate.

"Do you think you can escape here unpunished? So eager to go back to the flogging platform again. Even your husband can no longer protect you. You keep tarnishing his good reputation." She giggled, giving her a mocking look.

Eve remained silent, clenching her fists as she listened to Thalia.

"You should divorce Alaric, Eve. You are not a good match for him," Thalia continued.

This time Eve scribbled on her parchment paper.

[ No matter what you say. I won’t divorce my husband. ]

Thalia let out another giggle. "Oh really? Are you certain you won’t divorce him no matter what I say? Haha. Then what about this? Let me tell you what happened with my exciting journey with your husband."

Eve frowned, swallowing hard. She didn’t know why but her heart started to clench inside her chest. She had to admit that she hated the fact that Thalia accompanied Alaric on his journey to fetch the crown prince of Eldara.

Meanwhile, Thalia smiled triumphantly upon seeing Eve’s anxious expression. She moved closer to her, her hand reaching out to caress her face.

"Oh, Princess Eve. You are so clueless. Do you think Alaric will stay faithful to you? You are so ugly, weak, naive, and mute." Thalia lifted her chin. "Look at me... I am someone who will be desired by every man... including Alaric."

Eve gripped her quill pen tightly. ’Eve, calm down. Don’t believe her lies. Trust Alaric. She is just provoking you.’ She reminded herself.

"Alaric is a great kisser. I’ll never forget the feeling of his lips brushing my lips... feasting on mine." Thalia licked her lips as she continued. "His palms touching and caressing my flesh could set my body on fire. We made out several times... inside my carriage... and even in the riverside.

Eve froze in her spot. Though her mind was telling her that Thalia must be lying, her heart constricted in pain from hearing those words.

"If you don’t believe me. You can ask the royal guards who accompanied us. They witnessed everything."

Eve slammed her eyes shut while gritting her teeth. She didn’t know how long she could hold back her tears. Thalia’s words were like a thousand daggers piercing her heart right now.

Even though she wanted to trust Alaric, her insecurities started to weaken her resolve. Her heart began to waver.

It was true that in other people’s eyes, she was ugly, mute, and weak! People kept saying that Princess Thalia was a perfect woman for the Kingdom Hero.

’Haha! I knew it! She can be easily fooled. From her expression alone, I can tell that she started believing my lies. Well, I told her some truth as well. I indeed kissed Alaric and I made him touch my body. And I got witnesses. My words and the royal guards’ words vs Alaric’s words, this dumb woman will more likely believe us.’ Thalia rejoiced inwardly.

While Eve was trying to gather her emotions and calm herself, Thalia caught a glimpse of the man they were talking about.

’Oh! Alaric is here!’

Alaric had just departed from the 5th Battalion Barracks when he heard about the commotion at the entrance gate of the palace. But he didn’t know that the person involved was his wife, Princess Eve.

Seeing Alaric’s figure approaching them, a bright idea popped into Thalia’s mind. She decided to target Eve’s weakness.

"Aside from your plain-looking appearance, you also act unrefined and unladylike. You lack manners and elegance. You truly don’t deserve to be called princess or be treated as one. No wonder even the royal guards don’t respect you."

Thalia was deliberately provoking Eve. "I know where you got your unruly behavior..." she paused for a moment, smiling at her tauntingly.

After taking a deep breath, Eve peeled her eyes open and looked at Thalia sharply. She was still clueless that Alaric was making his way to them.

"You got this behavior from your slave mother!"

At first, Eve was surprised that Thalia knew about her biological mother. It was a royal scandal hidden by the royal family. It looked like Queen Amara disclosed the secret to Thalia.

"The shameless slut who seduced the king! I wonder if Alaric knows about this. You are just a fake princess! The fruit of the sinful act of your slave mother." Thalia began insulting Eve’s late mother.

Thalia’s last remarks triggered Eve to reach her boiling point. She could stand hearing various insults directed at her. But tarnishing her late mother’s name and insulting her was another story.

Her mother was a princess of Kingdom Zephyra! She is not a slave or a slut! King Solomon took fancy of her beauty. She didn’t seduce him. It was King Solomon who made the first move.

Without hesitation, Eve gave Thalia a resounding slap!

Pak!

The loud smacking sound echoed in the area, followed by Thalia’s scream. Everyone gasped upon witnessing the unexpected scene.
