Chapter 54: Not In Her Usual Self

Chapter 54: Not In Her Usual Self

Gideon didn’t sleep last night as he watched over Eve. She was burning up. He tried every remedy to make her fever go down. Fortunately, after three hours, her temperature turned back to normal.

The sun already rose from the east and Gideon just sat on the chair next to Eve’s bed.

He frowned the moment he saw Eve thrashing in her sleep. She curled her body as she whimpered.

"Eve?" Gideon immediately approached her, putting his hand over her forehead to check her temperature.

"What the hell? She’s burning up again!" Gideon cussed under his breath while staring at her worriedly.

Her body was covered by a cold sweat.

Eve whimpered as she began to sob in her sleep.

"Is she having a nightmare?"

Gideon quickly tapped her shoulders. "Eve, wake up!’

"Don’t be afraid. I’m here!" He continued shaking her body.

After a few seconds, Eve slowly peeled her eyes open, awakened by Gideon’s voice and touch.

Her heart was still pounding so hard against her chest and her body was trembling. The memory of her nightmare clung to her mind, haunting her.

"I saw someone... being stabbed multiple times... mercilessly," Eve mumbled, her voice barely audible, her fingers still clenching the sheet tightly.

"Forgive me, Eve. It’s all my fault. Last night, I let you see that. I didn’t expect that things would get out of hand," Gideon apologized to her.

But Eve sat up and shook her head, raising her hands to cover her face.

"No, Gideon. I witnessed a different crime, not last night. I think... I was still a child when I witnessed it. But I can’t really remember everything, only a portion of my memory."

Eve couldn’t understand why her heart was about to explode, her inner self wanting to go wild. Was the person killed somehow connected to her?

Meanwhile, Gideon listened to her attentively, rubbing her back to comfort her.

"Don’t think too much about it. And don’t try to remember. I think... that memory was too painful for you, that’s why your mind is subconsciously suppressing that memory. Sometimes, it’s best to forget something," Gideon said meaningfully, a cold glint flashing through his eyes.

"Wait here. I’ll get you a glass of water." He stood up to get water for Eve to drink.

In a brief moment, Gideon returned while holding a glass of water. He approached Eve’s bed, handing her the water. But suddenly...

CRASH!

The glass slipped out of Gideon’s hand as Eve suddenly grabbed him by his neck, strangling him.

’Damn it! What’s wrong with her?’ Gideon was shocked beyond belief when Eve attacked him out of the blue, her emerald eyes devoid of any emotions. It seemed that Eve had turned into a different persona.

Gideon tried to free himself from her grip, trying his best not to hurt her. But surprisingly, Eve got an immense amount of strength.

’When did she become this strong? Her fingers are gripping my neck tightly, almost breaking my bones.’

"Eve... It’s me... Gi–deon..." He tried to speak, hoping she could recognize him.

However, Eve flashed her devilish smile, no hint of recognition could be seen in her eyes.

For the first time, Gideon felt a sudden chill running down his spine and the hairs on his body stood tall as Eve’s murderous eyes stared at him as if he was her prey.

"Kill," she uttered, making Gideon freeze for a moment.

’What does she mean by that?’

Gideon was still struggling against her grip when Eve suddenly flipped him over, throwing him onto the wooden floor.

A loud thud echoed in the small cabin!

"Argh!" He grunted, glaring at Eve.

A student was currently beating her master! How could that be possible?!

’Did she lie to me? She already knows how to fight!’

Gideon was about to get up but Eve pressed her elbow against his neck in a prone position. Her face was so close to his face. The dangerous grin on her face never left as she looked down upon him.

"Eve. Come to your senses now! Don’t test my patience. I’m not fighting back because you are a woman... and you are feeling unwell. I don’t want to hurt you." Gideon finally warned her.

Eve was always full of surprises, her entire being veiled in mystery. As time went by, Gideon found himself increasingly drawn to her.

He was about to grab her and do a counterattack but Eve suddenly brought her face closer to his, her lips almost kissing him. That sudden action made Gideon freeze once more, his mind going blank.

He could feel her hot breath fanning his face, her cold emerald eyes surprisingly captivating.

’Fuck! Damn it! You are too close, Eve, invading my personal space. For goodness’ sake! Don’t tempt me!’ Gideon spat a series of curses inwardly.

Gideon held his breath, clenching his fists on either side of his body. Then he could hear the loud beating of his heart. This feeling was so unfamiliar to him. This was the first time he felt nervous and helpless under a woman’s scrutinizing gaze.

"Your blue eyes... They are beautiful. I love them." She murmured. Her cold countenance softened. He could no longer see the murderous intent in her eyes. His blue eyes had this kind of calming effect on Eve.

However, Gideon’s heart raced even faster upon hearing her last remark. Eve blatantly expressed her admiration toward him.

Gideon was used to hearing various compliments about his physical appearance from women. He didn’t feel anything whenever he would be praised by them and expressed their admiration.

But today, Eve’s sudden compliment made his heart flutter, a blush subconsciously overtaking his cheeks.

"Eve, is that you? Can you recognize me? Are you being delirious because of your fever?" Gideon spoke spontaneously in his nervous voice.

But Eve suddenly flinched, her eyebrows twitching in a deep frown. She finally let go of Gideon as she brought her hands to her head, tugging her hair tightly. Discomfort could be seen on her face as if she was in pain.

Before Eve could say a word, she passed out. Gideon reacted quickly, extending his arm to support her back. He didn’t let her body hit the floor. But instead, he pulled her into a hug. Eve landed on top of his body.

’What the hell had just happened here?’ Gideon thought to himself, his eyes fixed on the woman in his arms.
