Chapter 39: A Sudden Departure

After speaking to his knight commanders, Alaric took a quick bath, washing his bloodied appearance. His body and clothes were tainted by the blood of dire wolves he slaughtered during the fight.

After having a change of clothes, he slid into the chamber where Eve was still sound asleep. Watching her peaceful slumber, Alaric was compelled to join her on the bed.

He was exhausted after the intense battle against the pack of dire wolves. The emotional stress caused by Eve being in danger added to his fatigue.

In the next seconds, he lay beside her, gently pulling her into his arms. He embraced her securely.

However, his movement caused her to stir on the bed. Feeling the familiar warmth, Eve slowly opened her eyes, meeting Alaric’s gray orbs.

She stared at him for quite so long before reaching out to touch his chiseled face.

Alaric was dumbfounded by her sudden gesture, yet his intense gaze remained fixed on her.

Eve parted her lips to say something, only to close them again.

’I saw his fear earlier when I was in danger. He was worried about me.’ Eve thought to herself.

The royal messenger was the one who spoke up, responding to Alaric’s query. "General Stromholt, I’m here to deliver and relay to you the royal command."

"Kingdom Eldara has sent a royal convoy led by their Crown Prince. As the Kingdom Hero, your task is to escort the royal convoy until it safely arrives at our palace. King Solomon asks you to depart right away along with the royal army."

’What? My husband is leaving again?’ Eve’s heart sank upon hearing the royal command.
