The Hero's Forsaken Princess
Chapter 160: Forming A Bond

Chapter 160: Forming A Bond

The mighty dragon Zephyr existed for more than one thousand years. He was tamed by a beast tamer five hundred years ago– the first queen of Kingdom Zephyra.

"You have a kind heart, Princess. You don’t want to take advantage of my power. Today, I will only pledge loyalty to you. If you need my help, don’t hesitate to call me." Zephyr brought his head closer to her.

"Starting today... I’m forming a bond with you. You can summon me any time. Our minds and hearts are connected by our bond. You are my master."

Eve felt something magical the moment Zephyr uttered those words. An invisible string connected her to the dragon’s mind and heart.

He could feel her emotions, and he could communicate with her through their mind link. The dragon’s voice became louder and clearer.

Eve closed her eyes as she reached out, touching the dragon’s head and face. She could also feel the dragon’s emotions. Zephyr felt so happy to find a new master... a descendant of the Goldwyn Family.

"Thank you, Zephyr, for accepting me as your master. Please lend me your power to protect the people," Eve softly mumbled.

"My power is yours, Master. I will do anything for you," Zephyr swore to her.

"Do you want to fly with me, Master? Come. Ride at my back."

The mighty dragon had been sleeping in this dungeon for so many years. Now, Zephyr wanted to go out and fly in the sky.

Eve nodded, feeling the thrill and excitement. This was the first time she would fly in the sky like a bird. She wanted to experience this to clear her mind and appease her troubled heart.

Zephyr lowered his massive head, urging Eve to climb onto his back. He folded his wings and even extended his clawed foot, allowing Eve to step onto it so that she could ride his back.

Eve felt like this was just a dream. She clutched tightly on the dragon’s scale, finding her comfortable position at his back.

"Master, hold on tight," Zephyr reminded her.

Eve smiled as she tried to follow his instructions. It did not take long before Zephyr roared, its sound making the ground shake and creating a path above them. It seemed that the underground dungeon had opened up for them.

With a surge of wind power, Zephyr spread his massive wings. Its claws dug into the ground, getting ready to take off.

He released another loud growl before he leapt, and he began to ascend and soar high.

Eve felt the excitement as they flew into the sky. She gasped upon seeing the breathtaking view of the Kingdom Zephyra.

"So beautiful... the sky and the land," Eve mumbled, admiring the scenery.

With the help of Dragon Zephyr, Eve had forgotten her troubles even just for a while. They flew so high, touching the clouds.

"Master, just tell me if I need to go fast or slow down," Zephyr said, hoping to satisfy his master.

"I’m fine, Zephyr. Just keep the pace."

As Eve enjoyed her first flight with a mighty dragon, Gideon and the four generals noticed them.

"The dragon! It’s flying!" The general uttered, pointing his finger at the sky.

Gideon also looked up, watching the flying dragon. "Where are they going?"

He was still worried about Eve. What if she fell from that height?

Meanwhile, one general ran inside to inform King Zaraki and Chancellor Gustav that the dragon and Eve had left the underground dungeon.

"What?! Where did they pass through?" King Zaraki asked in confusion.

"We felt the tremor and heard the dragon’s roar earlier. Maybe the dragon creates its own path," Chancellor Gustav replied. "It looks like Princess Eve really managed to tame the dragon."

"You are right. Let’s wait. They will be back for sure," King Zaraki said with certainty.

As everyone waited for them, Zephyr flew to the nearby mountain and landed.

"Master, I’ll show you my power here."

Eve remained on his back as Zephyr demonstrated his power. He took in a deep breath, pulling and gathering energy from the earth around them.

Eve was amazed to see small pebbles and dust float around them, caught by the dragon’s magnetic force.

It did not take long before Zephyr unleashed his dragon’s breath. His throat glowed, releasing molten rock from its mouth.

Boom!

Eve felt like she was watching a volcano erupt.

"Zephyr, stop. You might destroy the mountain."

The mighty dragon listened to her as he closed his mouth and stopped releasing the molten rocks.

"Master, that’s my Molten Core Breath. But aside from that, I still have useful power," Zephyr proudly said.

Eve couldn’t help but smile. The mighty dragon was happy to flex his power.

"You can tell me. But don’t demonstrate. I don’t want you to cause trouble for the creatures living on this mountain," Eve reminded him.

"Okay, Master! I understand. My second ultimate power is called Petrification Breath. I can turn our enemies into stone."

Eve was amazed when she heard that. "After petrifying them, can you still turn them back to their original form?"

Zephyr bobbed his head. "Yes, Master. I can turn them back as long as the stone is not broken."

"Let me demonstrate to you, Master."

Zephyr looked at the sky. Then, he saw a flock of birds flying above them. He inhaled deeply before unleashing his petrification breath.

A cloud of fine dust gathered in his mouth before he released it, targeting the birds. They turned into stone right away. However, before they could fall to the ground and break, Zephyr’s onyx eyes glowed, and it turned blue as he canceled the petrification effect.

"Oh! That’s impressive, Zephyr! You can petrify our enemies without killing them. You can also turn them back and revive them." Eve admired Zephyr’s power.

"Master, the truth is I’m not a dragon of destruction. The fire dragon is the most destructive dragon. The first queen of Zephyra chose to tame me to build this kingdom and protect the land."

"Have you seen the stone structures and walls surrounding the kingdom? I was the one who made that defense stone wall. My power is to build and protect."

Eve felt so happy to hear the true purpose of Zephyr’s power.

"I love your power, Zephyr. You are so amazing! Please, let’s work hard to protect our people and our kingdom." Eve hugged the dragon.

"Yes, Master. I will assist you!"

Half an hour later, Zephyr and Eve returned to the dungeon.

"Thank you for touring me around, Zephyr. Will you stay here?" Eve asked him as she climbed down.

"Yes, Master. This is my home. I might scare people if I show myself outside. Just call me if you need me. I can hear your voice no matter how far you are from me."

Eve nodded, giving him a grateful look. "I will see you again. For now, I have to go back. King Zaraki is waiting for me outside. I guess... he will make a deal with me because he wants to use your power for his benefit."

"Hmm. The greedy traitor. Just tell me if you want me to turn that tyrant king into stone. I will definitely do that, Master."

Zephyr got mad at King Zaraki after hearing Eve’s story. The current King of Zephira betrayed his own brother and stole the throne from the rightful heiress. His crime was unforgivable.

However, this was not yet the time to deal with King Zaraki. Eve’s first target was Queen Amara– the woman who murdered her mother.

"Thank you, Zephyr. I will let you know if we need to deal with my granduncle. I have to go now. Next time... I’ll bring my husband here. I want you to meet him."

Zephyr nodded in agreement. "I can’t wait to meet my master’s husband. The hero."

"He is still recuperating. But I promise... I will bring him to see you once he recovers."

Eve reluctantly bade farewell to Zephyr. As she headed toward the Golden Gate, she felt at ease, knowing she had gained a new friend and ally.

The moment she stepped out of the dungeon, King Zaraki welcomed her with a wide grin.

"Welcome back, Princess Eve. How was your encounter with Dragon Zephyr?" he asked her expectantly.

"Zephyr is still weak because he had just awakened from his deep slumber," Eve lied.

"Oh. The important thing is... you tamed the dragon. Haha! That’s an accomplishment. Our journey here is worthwhile!" King Zaraki couldn’t contain his happiness.

"Let’s go back to the palace. There is something I need to discuss with you about the dragon." King Zaraki became serious.

"Okay," She simply replied.

Eve was aware that King Zaraki would try to blackmail her just to get what he wanted. She was the only one who could communicate with the dragon.

’I wonder what kind of tricks they will use against me to make me obedient to them. No matter what... I’m not going to obey them blindly. I already have a plan in mind. I need to outsmart King Zaraki and Chancellor Gustav in order to defeat them.’
