The Hero's Forsaken Princess -
Chapter 159: The Mighty Dragon Zephyr
Chapter 159: The Mighty Dragon Zephyr
The moment the general drew his sword against Eve, Gideon took action right away. He pointed his own sword at the general’s neck.
"No one will harm the princess, or else I’ll kill them," Gideon said in a stern, cold voice.
"Gideon! Have you gone mad? Why are you protecting an enemy?" The general questioned him. Then, he simply glanced at his fellow generals, signaling them to make a move.
"It’s not you who will decide who my enemy is. Drop your sword now!" Gideon warned him.
The other three generals exchanged glances with one another. They couldn’t decide whether to help their fellow general or listen to Gideon.
As they contemplated, Eve continued to walk forward, inching closer and closer to the sleeping dragon.
"Stop her! She will awaken the dragon. What if she can’t tame it? We will all die here!" The general said to the three other generals.
The three generals finally decided to stop Eve. They ran in her direction. But Gideon reacted quickly, blocking their paths. He clashed swords with the three generals, stopping them from reaching Eve.
"Princess Eve, no!" The general screamed when he saw her extending her hand to touch the dragon’s head.
The moment she touched the dragon’s face, everyone heard the sound of a pounding heart. It was so loud in their ears.
"What is that?"
"What’s happening?"
Then, another ground shaking happened. Gideon and the generals stopped fighting as they turned in the direction of Eve.
"Wake up," Eve mumbled, making everyone speechless.
The men stood frozen in their spots when they saw the glowing black onyx eyes of the dragon.
’Shit! It’s now awake!’
The next thing they heard was the thunderous and guttural dragon’s roar. The ear-splitting bellow echoed for miles that even King Zaraki and Chancellor Gustav heard from their current spots.
"Have you heard that, Gustav?! The dragon is awakened!" King Zaraki blurted out in excitement.
"Yes. I heard it, Your Majesty!" Chancellor Gustav responded. "Will they be safe? The dragon sounds furious for disturbing his sleep."
Chancellor Gustav started to worry about the safety of his son, Gideon. Even though he didn’t want to show it, he still cared about him.
Back inside the dungeon, the dragon finally moved, spreading its vast bat-like wings. The vein-like patterns on its skin started glowing with mystical energy.
Eve stood in front of the proud dragon, her eyes meeting its black onyx eyes. The dragon seemed to be curious at the woman staring back at him without a hint of fear.
"Is it you who awakened me?" The dragon asked Eve through their mind link.
"Yes. It’s me." Eve replied. She was amazed to see the large dragon. He exuded power and might.
The dragon turned to the men, who stayed silent in their spots. Only Gideon attempted to step forward to shield Eve from the dragon.
The men couldn’t hear its voice, so they didn’t know that Eve was talking to the dragon.
The moment Gideon moved closer to Eve, the dragon flapped its wings and let out a low, menacing growl.
"Don’t come," Eve warned Gideon. "Drop your swords." It looked like the Dragon hated to see the men with swords.
Gideon obeyed Eve as he kept his distance from Eve. The dragon roared once again.
"He wants you to leave," Eve said to everyone.
The four generals didn’t complain. They really wanted to leave
"No. I can’t leave you here alone," Gideon objected.
"Don’t worry about me. The dragon will not hurt me. He just wants to talk to me." Eve reassured him.
"Please, Gideon. Bring them out of the dungeon first. I will follow you in a while," she added.
Gideon could only sigh in defeat.
"We need to get out now," Gideon said to the four generals. He was reluctant to leave, but Eve requested him to do so.
Without further ado, Gideon escorted the four generals out of the dungeon. King Zaraki and Chancellor Gustav were surprised to see the five men coming out of the gate.
"Why are you here? Where is Princess Eve?" King Zaraki asked them.
"Your Majesty, the dragon was awakened. Princess Eve stayed behind as the dragon wished to talk to her," The first general responded to the king.
King Zaraki burst into a peal of laughter. "Hahaha! I knew it! I knew it! Eve can talk to the dragon. She can tame the dragon! This will be our weapon to conquer the other kingdoms. A mighty dragon as part of our army!"
King Zaraki couldn’t help but rejoice.
However, Chancellor Gustav had a bad feeling about this. If Princess Eve was the only person who could command the dragon, there was a risk of her betrayal. What if she used the dragon to fight King Zaraki?
"Your Majesty, can I talk to you for a moment?" Chancellor Gustav wanted to relay his concern without letting the generals know. Furthermore, his son, Gideon, was also there. He didn’t know if his son would choose Eve over his family.
"You go back to the carriage. Wait for us there," King Zaraki instructed his generals and Gideon.
As soon as they left, Gustav expressed his concern with his king. "Your Majesty, if Princess Eve manages to control the dragon, I’m worried that she will use its power against us. She might reclaim the throne."
King Zaraki chuckled once more. "You don’t have to worry about that. Eve will control the dragon while we control her. She won’t go against me. I will use her husband to make her obedient to us."
"What do you mean, King Zaraki? How would you do that?" Gustav asked him curiously.
"I poisoned her husband. It’s a very rare poison. He only had one year to live without an antidote. Only I know about the antidote. If she doesn’t obey me, then her husband will die." King Zaraki laid out his plan.
"But how sure are you that she would listen to you just because of her husband? Your Majesty, we can’t be sure if Princess Eve loves him enough." Chancellor Gustav was still in doubt.
"Hahaha! You are wrong, Gustav. Can’t you see? She surrendered herself just to stop the execution. It only means that Alaric is very important to her. She loves him as her husband." King Alaric was confident about this.
Chancellor Gustav could only bob his head. "I understand now, Your Majesty. Forgive me for doubting your words."
"It’s okay. I know that you are just being cautious. Aside from that, I am also thinking of arranging a marriage between Princess Eve and your son, Gideon. I think we can control her more if Gideon becomes her second husband." King Zaraki was being clever in using people to his advantage. Gustav taught him a lot of things.
"If Princess Eve falls for your son, then she will consider you as her family. She won’t defy her family. So you have to convince your son to make Eve fall in love with him. He already admitted to us that he loved her." The king encouraged Gustav to convince Gideon.
Chancellor Gustav fell silent for a moment. His son never listens to him, so he didn’t know how he would convince his son to follow their plan.
"I’ll try my best and talk to Gideon regarding this matter, Your Majesty."
"Fine. I’ll leave this to you. Let’s wait for Princess Eve’s return. I wonder what the dragon is saying to her right now." King Zaraki couldn’t stop smiling. He felt like he was about to reach his dream with the help of Eve.
Meanwhile, back inside the dungeon...
Eve and the mighty dragon continued talking to each other.
"What is your name?" Eve asked him as she moved closer. She tried to touch his giant claws. The dragon’s claw could easily crash a human skull.
"I’m a stone dragon, Zephyr. How about you? Are you somehow related to the Goldwyn Family?" Zephyr brought his face closer to Eve. He let her touch his face.
"I’m Eve. Yes. I’m a member of the Goldwyn Family. My mother is Princess Esemeralda, and my grandfather is the former King of Zephyra, King Arthur. However, they were all gone now." Eve couldn’t hide the sadness in her eyes.
"I’m saddened to hear that. I’m sorry for your loss. So, does it mean you are the last descendant who can talk to me?" Zephyr mumbled.
"Yes. I am... They called me a Beast Tamer."
Zephyr looked at her intently. "It’s been so long since the last time I talked to humans. Why did you awaken me, Eve? Do you need my power?"
Eve smiled at him faintly. "Forgive me for disturbing your sleep. I thought you were dead, so I tried to wake you up. You are a majestic being. I know you are powerful. You can easily destroy a kingdom and kill an army."
"Is there an ongoing war outside? Are you going to use me to kill your enemies?" Zephyr asked her with intrigue.
Eve shook her head frantically. "No! I won’t ask you to destroy nor kill. But I need your power to maintain the peace. I don’t like wars. And I hate killings. However, there are people out there who are greedy for power and wealth. I want to stop them. Will you help me with that, Mighty Stone Dragon Zephyr?"
Eve kneeled before him, showing her respect to the mighty dragon. She didn’t want to use him as a weapon for destruction. She wanted to promote peace.
"Hahaha! The blood of the Goldwyin Family really runs in your veins. They are the peace-loving people. I can see my first master in you. She is the greatest queen of all time."
